Dr. Vincent Adams invites Jagdeo to discuss oil

Itcomesdowntowhoknowsandwhodoesn’tknowwhat isreallygoingoninthisnation’strillion-dollaroilsector We speakabouttheinsandouts, andtheintricaciesthatarepart of the global oil industry We also highlight the sophistications and trickeries that oil companies employ in extracting the most from poor, uncomprehending, Third World countries suddenly overwhelmed by huge oil discoveries. ThisiswhereGuyanais, andwhereGuyanesebornDr VincentAdamscouldhavemuchvalue.

Dr Adams has stepped forward to lend a much-needed handtoGuyana. HehasextendedaninvitationtoDr Bharrat Jagdeo to meet and clear the air once and for all as to what mattersinouroilsector, wherewearegoingwrong, andhow wemustgoaboutdevelopmentsdifferently Wedon’tknow how Dr Jagdeo, Guyana’s Chief Oil Minister, intends to respond to Dr Adams’invitation. He should not see it as a challenge, butasanopportunityformuchlearning, andfrom wherehecoulddobetterforGuyana, andGuyanesewouldbe betteroffforhiswiseactions.

Dr Vincent Adams has what we lack currently The man’s technical qualifications in urgently needed areas, his long track record, both with the United States Government (Department of Energy), and the Guyana Government (Environmental Protection Agency) need no introduction, speak loudly as to what he brings to the table. We look at thosethatwehave, includingtheVicePresident, leadingthe wayintheoilsector,andtheWalesgas-to-energyproject,and realisehowmuchwearelacking,howill-servedweare. One Guyana sloganeering

The President of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce was quoted in this newspaper earlier this week urging our leaders to stop their pettiness and sit down and talk about this country’s development.

For many, this is like pouring water on a duck’s back- we don’t disagree. This country is badly wounded by ethnic strife, which is being exploited by our leaders daily for their narrow political agenda. For all, the noise around his sloganeeringPresident IrfaanAli’s ‘One Guyana’initiative is as dead as his administration’s economic policies.

In the shortest possible sentence, his words have not been matched by equivalent works. For, as we see it, ‘One Guyana’cannot deliberately include almost one group of people time and again, and just as repeatedly (and clearly purposely) exclude most of another set just as often.

Bermuda braces for Fiona as Biden pledges support for Puerto Rico

(AL JAZEERA) -

Residents of Bermuda have boarded up their windows and stocked up on supplies as Hurricane Fiona moves closer to the territory after leaving a trail of destruction across the Caribbean over the past several days.

As of Thursday afternoon, Fiona had maximum sustained winds of 125km per hour (78 miles per hour) and was about 555km (345 miles) west-southwest of Bermuda, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in

Miami said.

A hurricane warning remained in effect for all of Bermuda, an overseas British territory home to more than 60,000 people, while the NHC reported that the eye of the storm is expected to pass just west of Bermuda on Thursday night.

“I encourage everyone to properly prepare for this storm [and] stay out of the water,” Premier David Burt wrote on Twitter. “Take care of yourself [and] your

family. Let’s all remember to check on as well as look out for your seniors, family and neighbors.”

Across the island, people cleared loose debris from yards and readied to close storm shutters: Many homes are built with small shuttered windows, slate roofs and limestone blocks to withstand frequent hurricanes.

“I’m taking every precaution to stay safe,” said Dean Williams, a resident of

the capital city of Hamilton. “Preparation is the key because at its highest intensity we can do nothing but wait it out.”

Scott Barnes, who fishes for mahi-mahi and tuna, was adding three or four anchors to a boat moored near the shore, and planned to move his two other boats to a protective cove to shelter them from the worst of the Category 4 hurricane. ”I’m taking this one serious,” he said.

“The corruption worse now than...”

am pretty sure they don’t have 4000 people on it but $160M is coming out every month to Region 6".

As it relates to the flood relief grant for farmers who lost crops and livestock, Ramayya said many did not receive the assistance.

The government is still crafting its new Production Sharing Agreement and is set on providing better terms to allow a larger financial take for the country. Vice President Jagdeo is adamant that while there will be no change to the current PSA for the Stabroek Block where Exxon and part-

ners have found some 11billion barrels of crude, the new agreement will seek more for the country, the government oil and gas point person said.

The oil block auction is expected in the last quarter of this year after a cancellation of the September date. The auction is also expected to take place with existing data sets rather than fresh seismic studies. Jagdeo had said that, the market is good now and that oil prices is high, “I think now is the right time if we go to the auction… should we go, using the current data set, not generating future data sets.”

Ministry and up to now, nothing was done,” he said. Ramayya alleged too that another corrupt activity taking place is the handing out of road contracts without putting them up for tender.

“Road contracts were given out without the tender board, I can prove how many people up in the Corentyne area. They have their friends; they put their names…this is supposed to be a public record, but it is not a public record who is getting the contract”, the activist claimed while stating that these are the reasons for his resignation.

From page 14 explained by Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels, in a past interview at the time Reid was accidentally released; Reid had also been on remand for a second lesser crime. As such, he was freed on the lesser offence. By the time authorities had realised their mistake Reid was already gone.

According to the police report, ranks of the Clonbrook Police Outpost along with members of the Community Policing Group were given information on Reid’s whereabouts and thus went to an area in Ann’s Grove ECD where they had been directed.

There they found and apprehended Reid. Upon closer inspection, police recognized Reid was injured; having wounds on the left side of his abdomen and what looked like a gunshot wound on his back. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where his injuries were treated. Reportedly, he had also resisted arrest, putting up a fight and injuring two Police Constables in the process.

The injured police ranks were taken to the Mahaicony Hospital where they received medical treatment. Reid currently remains a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is under police guard. recaptured...
