Guyana cop eight medals at Caribbean Badminton Championships Guyana secured eight medals at the Caribbean International Junior Badminton Championships (CAREBACO) which was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico September 8-15, 2013. The Guyana Team did extremely well to win the eight medals and also brought fourth place in the Team Championships. Medals won are: 2-Golds, 2-Silver & 4Bronze in the Individual Events which they collected on Saturday evening at the presentation ceremony. Queenstown, New Mosque, MYO & Farm B are latest winners Action in the Third Annual RAF’s Variety Store Hajjin Zeleena Rafeek Memorial countrywide Inter Jamaat Ten10 knock-out Softball cricket tournament continued on Sunday last with a number of matches which saw Queenstown, New Mosque, MYO and Farm B all recording victories. At the MYO Ground, Woolford Avenue and Albert Streets GROVE VS FARM B Grove batted first and were limited to 81 for 5 in their allotted 10 overs. Shameer Fazal made 34 (1x4 2x6) and Imran Khan 28 (2x6). Avinash Mohabir and Budhan Baksh each picked up 2 wickets for Farm B who in reply eased their way to 83 for 3 off 8.2 overs. Ricky Sargeant slammed 51*, hitting the boundary ropes four times whilst clearing it a similar amount of times. Shameer Hussain supported with 23 (1x4 2x6). Scores: Grove 81 for 5; Farm B 83 for 3. MYO VS LBI MYO took to the crease first and blasted their way to a massive 211 for 1 in their allotted 10 overs led by Saheed Gittens’ explosive unbeaten 105 and Richard Latiff’s 87*. LBI in reply were skittled out for a mere 21 runs.
Bowling for MYO, Salim Mohamed and Wazir Hussain took two wickets each for 4 and 6 runs respectively. Scores: MYO 211 for 1; LBI 21 all out. NEW MOSQUE VS NON PARIEL Non Pariel made 96 for 4 in their allotted 10 overs; Abdool Kumar and Zaheer Alli hit 25 each. Bowling for New Mosque, Fazal Nazeem took 2 for 25. New Mosque in response, hit off the required runs reaching 98 for 5 in 9.1 overs; Fizul Nazeem was not out on 30, S. Alli supported with 29. Scores: Non Pariel 96 for 4; New Mosque 98 for 5. QUEENSTOWN VS MASJID AL MUNAWAR Masjid Al Munawar taking to the crease first struggled to 58 for 9 in their 10 overs; Stephen Persaud made 15 (1x4). Toney Ajodha and Majeed Khan took 2 wickets each 4 and 11 runs respectively for Queenstown which in reply cruised to 59 for 2 in 5.4 overs. Floyd Mayweather beats Saul Alvarez in Las Vegas masterclass BBC Sport - Floyd Mayweather further strengthened his claim to greatness with a one-sided defeat of Saul Alvarez in Las Vegas. In doing so the 36-year-old American secured the WBC and WBA light-middleweight titles and stretched his unbeaten professional run to 45 fights. He pockets upwards of $45m (£26.1m) for his efforts, a world record purse, and the fight is set to go down as the most lucrative pay-per-view show in history. The judges scored the fight 114114, 116-112, 117-111. Mayweather was never threatened, making his Mexican foe look ordinary at times, and the announcement of CJ Ross’s drawn card was met with stunned silence. “It is about skills,” said fiveweight world champion Mayweather. “I came out and showed my skills. “I just listened to my corner, listened to my dad [Floyd Sr, who is also his trainer]. My dad had a brilliant game-plan and I went out there and got the job done.’’ “I didn’t know how to get him - it’s extremely simple,’’ said Alvarez, who was previously unbeaten in 43 fights. “We tried to catch him but he’s a great fighter, very intelligent. However, such was Mayweather ’s defensive mastery that it never caught fire as a contest, with Alvarez spending much of the fight either hitting arms or swinging at fresh air. (GSCL Inc) 12\12 tournament continued yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club. R1 batted first and scored 92 all out in 12 overs with Karim Baksh top scoring with 22, while Brian Mangar supported with 20. Chandrashakker Arjune claimed 3-19, David Lukenauth 2-17 and Totaram Seenanand 2-17. Lukenauth then fashioned a fine 56 and got support from Rajiv Ivan 20 as Titans responded with 94-3 in 7.2 overs. Recharge XI went down to Speed Boat by 9 wickets in another fixture. Recharge XI took first turn at the crease and managed 92 before they were bowled out in 11 overs. Yougonand Narine made 20,
