Where else in the world would something like what is happeningwiththeWalesgas-to-energyproject(GTE)take place? Whereonthisplanetcouldtherebetheequivalentof suchdistortedgovernancepracticesandleaders, likewhatis encountered in the PPP/C Government? And which other place on earth could there be the parallel of a public institution like this country’s hogtied and helpless EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA)? Rathersadly, the answertoallthreequestionsisthesame:Guyana! Guyana! OnlyinGuyana.Thereisnoapprovalfromanysourceinthis State, butExxonMobilisalreadyonthemovewithreportsof investments in the project commencing six months ago (“Exxon signals “aggressive” push on Gas-to-Energy project”, KN October 11). There are only a couple of conclusionsthatanyreasonablepersoncouldcometowhen thatdevelopmentisconsidered. First, itisthatthedecisionmakers at ExxonMobil are reckless gamblers, who are pushing their luck in the hope to make yet another big investmentstrikeinGuyana. ThehistoryofthisAmericanoil supergiantisfilledwithallmannerofquestionableelements, but being gamblers and reckless are not ever present. The people at ExxonMobil know what they are doing, operate frompositionsofstrengthandconviction, andmakeproject decisionsmostwisely Tosaythisdifferently,ExxonMobilis racing ahead in its “aggressive” manner because there is no doubt in the top levels of the company that the Wales GTE willbeapproved, isadonedeal.
Second, this means that without a comprehensive, independent, reliable, as in truly trustworthy, study what Guyaneseonthesidelinesarewatchingunfoldisbothgame and gimmickry The assurances from the PPP/C Government, and its leaders, have no substance, lack the backing of genuine facts and figures. There is this US$2B GTE project, and prices keep spiralling the world over, and new and robust supporting financials are nowhere in the information or conversations coming out of the PPP/C Government. Whatisnowobviousisthatallthetalkingand posturingbyVicePresidentJagdeorelativetotheGTEarea matterofgoingthroughthemotions. Itisfortherecord, anda sham, given that the ExxonMobil’s Project Manager, Mr FreidrichKrispin, couldletthecatoutofthebagandinform oneandallthathiscompanyisaheadofconstructioncurve, since that commenced six months ago. As the KN article referenced above noted, the necessary approvals have not beengranted, butExxonMobilisnowsixmonthsaheadofthe clockinitsrushtogetitspartoftheWalesprojectcompleted whileGuyanasleeps.
Somebody with considerable authority, virtually unassailable power, must have given the green light to ExxonMobiltogoaheadbecausethereisnothingthatcould interfere, orwouldbeallowedtointerfere.Certainly, itwould not be Guyana’s EPA, which is forced to look on like a handcuffed spectator while ExxonMobil moves ahead with investments, pipelines, andconstruction.
ThisisdespitetheclearrequirementsofSection21(1)of the EPAAct, for the appropriate construction permit to be issued beforehand. As much as Guyana needs investment andcheapelectricity, isitstillacountryoflaws, andrulesand regulations? It is that when this precious oil and rapid deployment ExxonMobil are involved, then there is no meaningfulstewardshipatthenationallevel, oratanylevel.
ExxonMobil is a government within a government, a government by itself in Guyana. When all the oil and gas developmentsarestudiedwithfairnessandbalance, astrong case could be made that America’s oil superpower, ExxonMobil, isthesuperiorgovernmentinGuyana.

England, Spain, France, Amsterdam, Portugal, Sweden, and Denmark, the Caribbean is comingforourcheck.
It could be someone that is close and well-known that betrays, sells out, even endangers. Sometimes, it is a family member, a friend, or a neighbour.
And, as we at the Kaieteur Family just found out to our shock and amazement, it could be an ex-colleague working with a current colleague who plot and scheme about how to rob and then cover-up what happened.
This shocking, sorry, and sickening development is still unfolding, so we can only share what we have at this time.
But the appeal and warning to all is to beware, be watchful, and be sensible.
Stay safe and keep a clear head.

The DHB had been inoperable for three days after a Panamanian flagged vessel, MV Tradewinds Passion, crashed into it close to 02:00hrs on Saturday during a retraction for the passage of five vessels. It was reportedly filled with fuel for the Guyana Oil Company Limited
(GUYOIL) and was the last vessel to pass through from north to south when the collision occurred.
The damage was described as one never before seen by bridge engineers and the private sector had even provided support to Government to conduct emergency repairs. Engineers worked 24 hours in a shift system to make it operable again so that thousands of inconvenienced Guyanese could return to their normal lives.

The injured staffer is Andy Duke and Minister Edghill said that he was a Shift Supervisor directing the retraction from his tower on the bridge while his colleagues were below conducting routine maintenance.
Duke reportedly observed that the vessel was not in alignment with the channel to pass through properly and therefore made attempts to avoid the disaster by contacting its pilot via radio. He reportedly called on them to stop and turn around the oil tanker but it kept coming, and at the last moment, Duke decided to jump for safety but ended up injuring his leg.
Speaking with Kaieteur News,
Minister Edghill said that a surgery Duke needed was completed successfully on Tuesday, and he is said to be recovering well. As in relates to the investigation into the accident, Edghill disclosed that it is still ongoing and persons are still being questioned. The ongoing investigation is being conducted by a Board of Inquiry that commenced its work on Monday afternoon.

I cannot understand for the life of me why this commission would be featured on caricom.org as the face of Caribbean reparations when they have accomplished absolutely nothing since being created in 2013! My second proposal would be to reject this 10-point plan. Our ancestors were enslaved to generate wealth for European pow-
ers. That wealth continues to be passed down generation after generation, while the Descendants of Caribbean Slavery are passed down poverty generation after generation.
Additionally, we (you and I) of the grassroots, need to continually beat the drum demanding we be financially compensated for the atrocities committed against our ancestors and holding our elected leaders accountable
for pushing this demand. We owe it to our ancestors and our progeny to be uncompromising about this. In his 1968 speech called ‘Two Nations of Black America’ addressing America, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “we’re coming to get our check.
England, Spain, France, Amsterdam, Portugal, Sweden, and Denmark, the Caribbean is coming for our check.

Sometimes it’s not always about winning and losing, but it’s how you play the game. Winning and losing is determined not by the presence of a great deal of talent in a team, but by which team play better on the day.
At times one does not mind ending up on the wrong side of the result, as long as the players give their best, but this performance clearly was not the Warriors best effort.

Mwepu, who was instrumental in helping Zambia win a maiden African Under-20 title in 2017, was captain of the Chipolopolo (Copper Bullets), having registered sixgoalsfromhis23caps.
Zambia’s Football Association (Faz) spoke of its “profound shock and devastation” after Mwepu announcedhisretirement.

In an open letter to Faz and Zambia supporters, Mwepu thanked those who had offered “assistance and guidance”overthecourseof hiscareer
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the fans who watched and supported me - you have been simply amazing,” he wrote.
“But alas, the time has come for me to end my professionalplayingjourney and join you as a fellow fan ofthenationalteam.

Mwepu was unable to train after arriving in West Africa last month and spent fourdaysinhospital.Hehad tests on his return to England, with his club Brighton saying the results meanthis“onlyoption”was toretire.
Tributes from Daka, Welbeck and Zambia’s President
Mwepu won four Austrian league titles with RB Salzburg and the Austrian Cup three times beforehejoinedBrighton& Hove Albion for a reported £18m($20m)inJuly2021.
Zambia team mate Patson Daka, who also played alongside Mwepu at Salzburg, said it “saddens him” that the two could not continue their careers together after the pair both movedtoEnglandlastyearwhen Daka joined Leicester City
Mwepu’s first campaign with the Seagulls was
affected by injury, but he won the club’s goal of the season award for his stunning long-range strike againstLiverpoolinOctober lastyear
In total, he scored three goals in 27 appearances for thePremierLeagueclub.

Wewishyougoodhealth and God’s blessings in your next chapter,” Hichilema posted.
Mwepu never played at the Africa Cup of Nations,

“There is immense shock,” former Faz official Ponga Liwewe told BBC SportAfrica.
“His career was going placesandhewasoneofthe players we were hoping would reignite Zambian footballandsetitbackonthe righttrack.
