(OSHA) has ordered ExxonMobil Corporation to re hire two Scientists who were fired for allegedly leaking sensitive information to the 'Wall Street J o u r n a l ' l a s t y e a r InSeptember2020,the'WallStreet Journal' alleged that the global oiland gas company may have inflated production estimates and the reported value of oil and gas wells in the Texas Permian Basin. The newspaper reported ExxonMobil's assumption that drilling speed would increase substantially in the next five years mayhavebeeninaccurate.
These assumptions were
included in company filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissionin2019.
OSHA's investigation found that ExxonMobil fired two Computational Scientists who raised concerns about the company's use of the assumptions in late 2020.The company claimed it terminated one of the Scientists for mishandling proprietary company information, and the second for having a 'negative attitude',lookingforotherjobs, and losing the confidence of company management.
O S H A l e a r n e d t h a t ExxonMobil knew that one of the Scientists was a relative of a source quoted in the 'Wall Street Journal' article and had access to the leaked information.
The investigation determined that the communication with the newspaper, related to alleged company violations, is a protected activity under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
The Act also protects the Scientists despite ExxonMobil's belief that they had access to and possibly leaked information to the publication Neither of the employees fired was revealed as a s o u r c e f o r t h e a r t i c l e The U.S. Department of Labour said a federal 'whistleblower' investigation found the company, therefore, terminated the individuals illegally and ordered the oil giant to pay them more than US$800,000 in back wages, interest and compensatory damages.
The integrity of the U S financial system relies on companies to report their financial condition and assets accurately,” said Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health DougParker

As American oil major, ExxonMobil continues to ramp up oil production in the country, the members of a women organisation, 'Red Thread', have made it clear thattheywillnotsitbackandallow their country to be destroyed by 'greedyforeigners.'
On Friday last,WintressWhite, one of the 40 members of Red Thread participated in a picket exercise outside the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Ganges Street, Georgetown Head Office lobbying the body to perform its mandate of safeguarding the environment. In an invited comment, White told Kaieteur News that Guyana and its people are not benefiting from the exploitation of its oil and gas resources. To this end, she argued that the least Exxon can do, which is walking away with the major beneficiary, is leave the country cleanforfuturegenerations.
She said, “We live in Guyana and we cannot see our beautiful country destroyed by the greedy foreigners. We are not benefitting, Guyana is not benefitting from this oil and gas story They want us to believe that but we are not benefitting from it. The persons that are benefitting is ExxonMobil and its partners so we want them to leave Guyana clean for us and our children and our grandchildren and ourfuturegenerations.”
The 'Red Thread' member was askedtoweighinonthefactthatthe EPAhasfailedtorespondtoagroup of 54 citizens who had penned a letter, which embodied concerns relating to the treatment of hazardous waste onshore, among others.
According to her, “Their eyes pass us. Their eyes pass Guyanese becauseifwassomeothercountries they would have had to respond to them but they eye pass us. The Environmental Protection Agency needs to do their work. They need

to You can't have harmful chemicals in communities where people living and ExxonMobil don'tcarearattoothaboutus. They (Exxon)don'twanttospendmoney and they are making money by the billions. Their profit is more than you could imagine, so their eyes passustoo.”
White even pointed out that becauseofthe'greedy'natureofthe oil companies, they have refused to fulfill their obligations to Guyana
as it regards full liability coverage foroilspills.
In recent days, the integrity of the EPA has been questioned by various members of civil society who believe that the body has been functioning in the best interest of the oil companies, rather than the environment and people of Guyana.
Just last month an oil spill was reportedbyExxonMobilbuttodate the agency is yet to publish its own
report on the matter In fact, the country learnt about the one barrel spill through a Press Release from the operator of the Stabroek Block, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL), the localsubsidiaryofExxon.
Questions to the Executive Director of the EPA, Kemraj Parsram on when the findings from the independent investigation would be made public were not answered.

He has caused enough damage, and he has displayed those worrying qualities that warn thunderously: he is not a fit and proper person, or leader, or contributor where the stewardshipofthisoilwealthisconcerned.
Since it has to be said, we will take the bull by the horns and lead the charge. We have lost all confidence that anything that Jagdeo does will result in what is good for Guyanese. For his friends and handpicked cronies, he will do his best and succeed, but for the rest of Guyanese hoping for something beneficial from this oil sector, Mr Jagdeo is a lost cause, a precious hope wasted. This is the essence of the manJagdeo, andasharshasthismaycomeacross, hehaslost allclaimsforanyconsiderationthatheisaleaderwhocanbe trusted.
Mr Jagdeo has brought this upon himself, has only himself to blame for the dark place in which he must now barricadehimself. Thingshavedeterioratedtosuchadegree that the man in charge of the nation’s oil and gas sector cannot even provide a straight answer to the simplest of questions. Thus, he condemns himself, has made himself intothefeeblestlookingofleaders.

Only he knows the answer to that probing question. But when he scavenges around and comes up with the kind of shifty, sneaky answers that he delivers to listeners and watchers, no more confirmation is needed, regarding what hemayhavedonetohimself.
A man of his experiences and exposures should know, and know very well, that the management of oil is not the managementofsugar
Though the latter has its challenges, it pales when compared to oil, and Mr. Jagdeo as President and now Vice Presidenthasdoneincomparablypoorlywithsugar Itisthe poorest of recommendations for him to be put in charge of this national oil wealth. Some people are inclined to believe: “we run things, things don’t run we!”
But although we optimistically make plans, quite a few of these do not get to see the light of day.
As the good book says at Proverbs 19:21: “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.”
It’s high time we stop acting the fool and recognise that we never had, and will never have, life in our hands!

The Ministry of Education recognises that creativity and innovation must be carefully channelled to meet the needs of society As such, educating the nation in the arts, particularly Visual Arts contributes significantly to the development of creative and critical thinkers. Creative and critical thinkers are necessary to resolve complex situations that exist in our everydaysociety
As such, the Ministry is positioning its teachers and educatorsthroughconsistenttrainingtomeettheneedsofthe 21st Century learner. In a Press Release, the Ministry noted that the mandate of the integration of the Expressive Arts (Dance,Drama,MusicandVisualArts)istheresponsibilityof the Unit of Allied Arts. The department in rolling out its mandate has engaged the services of CSEC Chief Examiner, Mr. Wayne Branch to address the needs of the CSEC Visual Arts programme. In this regard, Mr Branch conducted a three-dayPrintmakingworkshopfromOctober11–13,anda one-daySyllabusSensitizationTrainingonOctober14.
Twenty-Five Specialist Secondary school teachers from education districts #3, 4, 5, 9, 10 and Georgetown benefited from training in basic and advance Printmaking Techniques. The workshop aimed at providing teachers with basic and advance skills in CSEC printmaking techniques and fostered the expansion of knowledge in the art form to aid teachers to betterpreparestudentsintheExpressiveForm.
The Revised Syllabus Meeting exposed 35 teachers from education districts #2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10 and Georgetown to the CSEC Revised Visual Arts Syllabus effective for examinations from May-June 2024. This training allowed teachers to carefully examine the syllabus and note major changes with the view to transition from teaching the current syllabustotherevisedsyllabus.
The initiative of these trainings is a collaborative approachthatisaimedatbridgingthegapstoenableteachers to expand their competencies, knowledge, skills and concepts. approaching, there is no doubt that a lot of us are trying to get in shape to rock our figure at staff parties or wherever theholidayfestivitieswillbe.
Recognizingthatnoteveryone make it to the gym or can even afford a membership, in this week's Fit Nest, we'll discuss some easy but effective exercises you can try at home to burn off somebellyfat.
Like any exercise routine, make sure you warm up by stretchingyourmusclestoprepare and more importantly, avoid injuries.
The first exercise I'd like to recommend you try is the 'beginner plank' There are different variations of the plank but if you are new to exercise, it would be best you try this less intenseversion.
Topracticetheplank, beginby laying face down on the ground. Place your elbows and legs flat likeyouareabouttodoapush-up. Push your body upward and keep yourchintighttoyourneck.
Hold the position for about 10 seconds and repeat for about three timesforthebestresults.
Another great and effective core exercise you can try is 'bicyclecrunches'.
I'm sure you've heard of crunches before if you're looking togetinshape, butjustincaseyou haven't I'll help you to try this at home.
Start by lying on your back,
next bend your knees bringing your heels closer to your butt and simply touch your ears with your hands.
Now that you're all set, aim to touch your left knee with your right elbow, squeezing your core and avoiding pressure on your neck.
To do this you will need to slightly lift the top half of your body off of the ground to reach yourknee.
Instead of allowing your foot to rest on the ground after that motion kick it into the air and repeat the same motion on the oppositeleg.
You may aim for 20 repetitions(10oneachleg).
'Leg raises' are yet another optionforguysandgalslookingto get rid of stubborn lower belly fat we call the fupa (the belly fat that hangsabovethepubicarea).
This simple exercise can be done by laying flat on your back with your legs outstretched and toespointedup;alsogiveyourself enough room to stretch your arms outaboveyourhead.
Now slowly lift your right leg, bringing your right arm to almost touch your toes in the air Lower your arm back down as you simultaneously lower your leg as well.
Do this for about 10 times before repeating on the opposite side.
Next, be sure to try out the 'Russiantwist'.
For this exercise, sit on the floor and beginners can keep their feet on the ground. Slightly tilt your back towards the ground
(yourbodyshouldbeinav-shape) and clasp your palms in front of yourtummy
Begin the 'Russian twis' by moving your hands to the left side
of your body, keeping your back tilted and squeezing your core; move your hand to the opposite side of your body and repeat this motionforabout20times.
These are some equipmentless moves you can try to burn yourtummyfat.

The road to achieving your desires is never an easy one. Chris, after graduating Valedictorian, Best Graduating Student and Best Graduating English A Student from St. John's College in 2005, was able to move from National Hardware (Guyana) Limited as an Audit Clerk in 2006 to Layout Artist at Kaieteur News, National Media and Publishing Company Ltd. in 2007 to Legal Intern at Christopher Ram & Associates, Attorneys-at-Law by 2017 and legal assistance by 2018. Hosting the agency's AGM after a 11-years hiatus, he was also oneoffourHeadsofDepartmentto prepare and successfully execute a mixed virtual and in personAnnual GeneralMeeting,duetotheCovid19 pandemic, the first of its kind in GuyanaandtheCaribbean.
Chris provided competent legal adviceandguidancetotheMinistry of Labour, Department of Cooperative, andtheSociety'sInterim Management Committee on issues surrounding the holding of AGM, relative to the absence of a substantive Chief Cooperative DevelopmentOfficer
He took part in the defence
Already making a name for himself within the legal sector, Chris says there is a lot more work to put in coupled with the winning attitude and qualities necessary for success. One of those, he said, is discipline, “a main ingredient to succeed in whatever we aspire to in life.”
A particularly interesting fun fact that comes to mind is the original meaning of the Chinese's martialartsartform,'kungfu'which simply refers to any discipline or skill achieved through hard work and practice, not necessarily martialarts.
“Indeed, the legal profession is no different, with discipline being oneofitshallmarks,”hesaid.
In consciously applying the principles of discipline and being responsible to his profession, Chris related the saying that the law is a jealousmistressandrequiresalong and constant courtship “Truer wordshaveneverbeenspoken, and Iamcertaintheyapplyanalogously to any profession. Therefore, time management becomes an indispensable attribute of any professional, this allows you to balance other responsibilities in life, and I would dare to say, to guardyourmentalhealthbeforelife overwhelmsyou.”
Chris related that during his undergrad years, he became aware of the financial challenges relative to attending or completing law school as one of his biggest challenges and the recent trend indicates no significant improvement to this dilemma, despite several appeals by law students for financial aid. This was notashortcomingtheAttorneywas willingtoletstophim.
He believes, however, that a more holistic approach needs to be taken to comprehensively address the problem, which may have implications relative to access to justiceandtheruleoflaw
There must be some level of motivation to keep going. For Chris, his family is his biggest motivation to get up and do it all overagaineveryday
“But outside of this,” he said, “the legal profession is a noble one because it is a service-oriented profession, which aims to serve society
Therefore, being a part of the machinerythatdeliversthatservice has its own intrinsic reward, I presume it may be similar in nature to that of a teacher watching his or her students attain their full potential.”

I stand at Lot 1 Eccles in front of my business and enjoylookingatthehundreds of trucks and heavy equipmentthattheoilandgas explosion has brought to our country and the numbers continuetoincrease.
These trucks are upgraded with electronic controlled engines and accessories monitored by electronic control modules (E.C.M). In short, it is a computer programmed to facilitate all the added features. These new trucks have obviously forced us to equip ourselves with the necessary machinery and tooling to keep them productive because diesel engines are the life blood to everynation.
I have mentioned before that almost all industries dependondieselenginesand it is clear that without diesel the economy will crumble and I will to use 'Hurricane Ian', which was recorded as the worst in Florida's history, asanexample.
In every phase of this unfolding disaster, glimpses canbeseenofthecriticalrole of diesel technology in the recovery efforts. Fire and rescue engines and the Florida National Guard's “high wheeled” troop transport vehicles, powered by diesel, rescued people

Diesel powered cranes are aiding in search and rescue efforts, lifting boats off of structures and off of roadways. Larger work boats towing barges are providing access to cut-off islands as well as delivering supplies and heavy equipment (all diesel powered). Hospitals maintained electrical power thanks to backup generators (most diesel powered) but had to transfer patients and closeduetolackofwater
Power outages have been quickly restored to several million homes and nearly all of these utility response vehiclesrelyondieselpower, some travelling hundreds or thousandsofmilesfromtheir home communities to Florida. Bucket trucks (aka cherry pickers), auger drill trucks and rigs to replace

In addition, hundreds of electric generators, mostly diesel powered were shipped in advance of the storm.Mobilehigh-capacity dewatering pumps are helping clear buildings and infrastructure of standing storm water, all powered by diesel.Thousandsoftractor trailers are delivering essential food, fuel, and drinking water to affected communities cut off from

The ‘Cuban Missile Crisis’was a 35-day (16 October – 20 November 1962) confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, which escalated into an international crisis when American deployments of missiles in Italy and Turkey were matched by Soviet deployments of similar ballistic missiles in Cuba. Despite the short timeframe, the ‘Cuban Missile Crisis’ remains a defining moment in US national security and nuclear war preparation. The confrontation is often considered the closest the Cold War came to escalating intoafull-scalenuclearwar
In response to the presence of American Jupiter ballistic missiles in Italy and Turkey, and the failed ‘Bay of Pigs’ Invasion of 1961, Soviet First Secretary Nikita Khrushchev agreedtoCuba’srequesttoplacenuclearmissilesontheisland to deter a future invasion. An agreement was reached during a secretmeetingbetweenKhrushchevandCubanPrimeMinister Fidel Castro in July 1962, and construction of a number of missilelaunchfacilitiesstartedlaterthatsummer
Meanwhile, campaigning for the 1962 United States elections was underway, and the White House denied charges for months that it was ignoring dangerous Soviet missiles 90 miles (140 km) from Florida. The missile preparations were confirmed when a USAir Force U-2 spy plane produced clear photographic evidence of medium-range R-12 (NATO code
name SS-4) and intermediate-range R-14 (NATO code name SS-5) ballistic missile facilities. When this was reported to President John F Kennedy, he then convened a meeting of the nine members of the National Security Council and five other key advisors, in a group that became known as the Executive Committee of the National Security Council (EXCOMM). Duringthismeeting,PresidentKennedywasoriginallyadvised to carry out an air strike on Cuban soil in order to compromise Soviet missile supplies, followed by an invasion of the Cuban mainland. After careful consideration, President Kennedy chose a less aggressive course of action, in order to avoid a declaration of war After consultation with EXCOMM, Kennedy ordered a naval “quarantine” on October 22 to preventfurthermissilesfromreachingCuba.Byusingtheterm “quarantine”, rather than “blockade” (an act of war by legal definition),theUnitedStateswasabletoavoidtheimplications of a state of war The US announced it would not permit offensive weapons to be delivered to Cuba and demanded that theweapons alreadyin Cubabe dismantledandreturnedtothe SovietUnion.
After several days of tense negotiations, an agreement was reached between Kennedy and Khrushchev- publicly, the Soviets would dismantle their offensive weapons in Cuba and return them to the Soviet Union, subject to United Nations verification, in exchange for a US public declaration and agreementtonotinvadeCubaagain.Secretly, theUnitedStates agreedwiththeSovietsthatitwoulddismantlealloftheJupiter MRBMswhichhadbeendeployedtoTurkeyagainsttheSoviet Union. There has been debate on whether or not Italy was included in the agreement as well. While the Soviets dismantled their missiles, some Soviet bombers remained in Cuba, and the United States kept the naval quarantine in place until
The Great Hurricane of 1780, also known as ‘Huracán San Calixto’, ‘the Great Hurricane of the Antilles’, the ‘Great Hurricane of theWest Indies’, and the ‘1780 Disaster’, was the deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. An estimated 22,000 people died throughout the Lesser Antilles when the storm passed through the islands from October 10 to October 16. Specificsonthehurricane’strackandstrengthareunknown,as theofficialAtlantichurricanedatabaseonlygoesbackto1851.
The hurricane struck Barbados likely as a Category 5 hurricane, with at least one estimate of wind speeds as high as 200 mph (320 km/h), (greater than any in recorded Atlantic basinhistory)beforemovingpastMartinique,SaintLucia, and Sint Eustatius, and causing thousands of deaths on those islands. Coming in the midst of the American Revolution, the storm caused heavy losses to the British fleet contesting for control of the area, largely weakening British control over the Atlantic. The hurricane later passed near Puerto Rico and over the eastern portion of Hispaniola, causing heavy damage near the coastlines. It ultimately turned to the northeast and was last observedonOctober20southeastofAtlanticCanada.
Project 596, Chic-1 by the US intelligence agencies was the first nuclear weapons test conducted by the People’s Republic of China, detonated on 16 October, 1964, at the Lop Nurtestsite.
The Rodney riots were riots and civil disturbances in Kingston, Jamaica in October 1968. The riots were sparked by the Jamaican Government of Hugh Shearer banning Guyanese University Lecturer Dr Walter Rodney from returningtohisteachingpositionattheUniversityoftheWest Indies. Rodney, a historian of Africa, had been active in the Black Power Movement, and had been sharply critical of the middle-class in many Caribbean countries. Rodney was an avowed Socialist who worked with the poor of Jamaica in an attempttoraisetheirpoliticalandculturalconsciousness.
When Rodney attended a Black Writers’ Conference in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in October 1968 the Government tooktheopportunitytobanhimfromreturning, citing, among otherthings, tripstoCubaandtheUSSRasjustification.
On learning of the ban, students at UWI, Mona began a demonstration under the leadership of the Guild of Undergraduates, closing down the campus. They then proceeded to march first to the Prime Minister’s Residence, and then to the Parliament Building in Kingston. On the way many more demonstrators joined in, and eventually the disturbancebecameincreasinglyviolentspreadingacrossthe city Eventually, several people were killed and there were millionsofdollarsinpropertydamages.Theriotswerepartof an emerging Black Consciousness Movement in the Caribbean, and helped inspire the 1970 Black Power RevolutioninTrinidadandTobago.
It was a uranium-235 implosion fission device made from weapons-grade uranium (U-235) enriched in a gaseous diffusion plant in Lanzhou. The atomic bomb was a part of China’s ‘Two Bombs, O n e S a t e l l i t e ’ programme.
It had a yield of 22 kilotons, comparable to the Soviet Union’s first nuclear bomb RDS-1 in 1949 and the American ‘Fat Man’ bomb dropped on Nagasaki, Japan in 1945.
With the test, China became the fifth nuclear power in the world and the first Asian nation to possess nuclear capability
This was the first of 45 successful nuclear tests China conducted between 1964 and 1996, all of which occurred at the LopNurtestsite.
The‘MillionManMarch’wasalargegatheringofAfricanAmerican men in Washington, D.C., on October 16, 1995. Called by Louis Farrakhan, it was held on and around the National Mall. The National African American Leadership Summit, a leading group of civil rights activists and the Nation of Islam working with scores of civil rights organisations, including many local chapters of the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People (but not the national NAACP) formed the ‘Million Man March’ Organising Committee. The Founder of the National African American Leadership Summit, Dr Benjamin Chavis Jr served as NationalDirectorofthe‘MillionMan’March.
The Committee invited many prominent speakers to address the audience, and African American men from across the United States converged in Washington to ‘convey to the world a vastly different picture of the Black male’and to unite in self-help and self-defense against economic and social ills plaguing the African American community The march took placeinthecontextofalargergrassrootsmovementthatsetout to win Politicians’ attention for urban and minority issues throughwidespreadvoterregistrationcampaigns.

by Uncle Roy FUN WITH POETRYThis a story about troublesome Dave, A boy who just loved to misbehave; He hid books at school to make others mad, Pulled girls’ hair and made them sad;
Dave tormented dogs to hear them howl, He didn’t even spare the neighbours’ fowl; He harassed cats by pulling their tails, The naughty boy delighted to hear their wails; Dave pelted cows with sticks and stones, And hit donkeys till he heard their groans;
Animals were safe only when he was asleep, The twelve-year-old even hassled quiet sheep.
Then one day Dave met old Billy, A bad-tempered goat as wicked as he; The boy struck Billy with a stick on his side, The goat became angry and really wild;
The bearded animal moved fast as a hare, It butted the troublesome boy right in the rear; Dave fell down but was quickly on this feet, And Billy struck again right on his seat;
Mr. Misbehave then knew it was time to run, With Billy in pursuit, and having real fun. Dave jumped a fence, looking for safety, But a Doberman sent him back hastily;
He finally found refuge in an orange tree, But he had to bear the ants till Billy grew hungry; This episode served to change our hero much, But the sight of a goat now sends him off with a rush.
A proper knowledge of self is the key to the development of a sense of identity
This self knowledge implies a clear and realistic idea of what we are, including awareness of one’s strengths, one’s shortcomings and how one appearstoothers.
Formationofthisclear sense of identity is based on the ability to separate yourself from the influence of others – your parents, peers, what you see on the television and read in the press – and make up your mind as to who you really are, what are your goals in life, and what you will make of yourself as you plan honestly and successfully to achievethesegoals.
Here is the first step you should purposefully
take in the effort to form youridentity:-
Accept your physical appearance for what it is. You should realise that you had no control over the way you look, and not even your parents, whose features you partly bear, had that control. Begin to take a purposeful
a
ttitude about acceptance of how you look, and feel good aboutit.
Always remember that youareauniqueperson, and this combination of your features, your size, your height, your figure, your
complexion, etc. is unique, a n d w i l l n e v e r b e duplicated, no matter how many other people are born in this world. Stop the habit of comparing yourself with other people who may seem asperfect.
You are someone without comparison, and thatisyourownidentity
Think of these two questions and try to answer them in an honest and searchingmanner:-
(i) What are the things thatactagainstyourforming yourownidentity?
(ii) What would you advise a friend who is alwaysdepressedabouthow he/shelooks?
Youwillneedtospend some time on the answers to these questions, and try to fulfil this before you deal with the other step in this
Fill in the blank squares so that each row, each column and each 3-by-3 block contain all of the digits 1 thru 9. > and < connections between squares indicate that one number is greater than or less than another. If you use logic you can solve the puzzle without making guesses.
If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies, Or being hated don’t give way to hating, And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream—and not make dreams your master; If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim, If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings, And never breathe a word about your loss: If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch, If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
'speckled mosquito fish' or the 'one-spot live bearer' ( P h a l l o c e r o s caudimaculatus) is a species of fish native eastern and southern Brazil, northern Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay
I t h a s a l s o b e e n introduced to Australia, Malawi and New Zealand; primarily for mosquito control, but also as escapees from the aquarium trade. It has been reported as having adverse ecological effects in areas where it has been introduced.
The females of this species grow to a total length of 6 centimetres (2.4 in), whilemalesremainsmaller Origins
This species originated in SouthAmerica. It is mainly a freshwater fish and thrives best in areas with weak water flow
However, it is extremely adaptable and can thrive in a multitude of altered environments. For example, a l t h o u g h i t p r e f e r s temperatures between 16 and 22 °C (61–72 °F), it can survive up to 30 °C (86 °F) anddownto5°C(41°F).The species also has a high fecundity.
The 'dusky millions fish' was one of the first species in itsfamily,'thePoeciliidae',to be bred for aquarium usage. Ecologists also attempted to use the fish as a mosquito control however, the mosquito fish's diverse diet affected its efficacy as a
controlspecies.
The 'mosquito fish' can eat a range of different organisms, includingalgae.
Role as an invasive species
The 'dusky millions fish' wasintroducedtoavarietyof ecosystemsbothbyaquarium keepers and as a mosquito pestcontrol.
The NSW
area of Australia has been affected themostbyitspresence.
Itreproducesandspreads well in the winter when there is a larger flow of water. Australian ecologists have triedtocontainthisspreadby killing them with rotenone however, the infestation persists.
This species is most likely to be found in shallow areas with varying levels of
vegetation, such as local ponds.
The ecological impact of the 'dusky millions fish' in Australia is pronounced. Its diet has affected populations ofbothnativeandnon-native fish. An example would be
the non-native 'Gambusia holbrook'. It has similar features as the 'dusky millions fish', such as a high reproductive rate and use for mosquitocontrol.
However, its population in Australia has diminished
since the introduction of the 'dusky millions fish'
Furthermore, this 'dusky millions fish' has also affected the food chain, as they have become prey for nativebirdspecies.

Twenty six years ago,a , a man by the name of Nandram Narine, destroyed the lives of a couple when he killed their only two children in a road accident along the East Coast of Demerara (ECD). He was in his early 20s at the time and had spent some time in jail for causing their deaths. Since becoming afreeman, hewasreportedly slapped with a $15M civil suit. Little Glasgow was probably feeling a bit hungry after exhausting herself during the school sports since instead of riding home she decided to eat some food she hadwithher Investigators reported that she was leaning against her bicycle on the parapet munching on some food when suddenly a speeding car ran off the road, while negotiating a turn, and slammed into her Glasgow

She was unconscious and, in an attempt to save her life, doctors there immediately rushed her by ambulance to the Boa Vista Hospital in neighbouring Brazil. Hopes of her surviving were shattered after she breathed her last while undergoing an emergencysurgery
Navindra Narine, the driverbehindthewheelofthe car that took her life, was taken into police custody and investigators by way of a breathalyzer test were able to establish that he was drunk whentheaccidentoccurred.
He was charged with causing Glasgow's death due todangerousdrivingandwas kept in custody for more charges to be instituted againsthim.
The tragic accident made headlines but it was not only Glasgow's parents and loved ones who were mourning her death.
Shameer and Fareena Bacchus, Lucille's two children, who were killed by Navindra's father, Nandram, 26 years ago.
Another mother, Lucille Bacchus, was weeping too as she read the various reports about the drunk driver who was responsible for the death of a little girl. She was forced to relive a day she wishes to forget Twenty-six years ago on November 16, 1996, the lives of her only two children, Shameer and Fareena B a c c h u s , w e r e snatched away after a drunk driver, Navindra's dad, Nandram, crashed into them along the East Coast Demerara (ECD) public road. The children were only 17 and 16 years old at the time.
Speaking with The Waterfalls during a recent interview, Bacchus recalled that her children had rode out from her home at Lusignan that morning on a small motorcycle she and her husbandhadboughtforthem.
They had gone to a friend's home at Enmore to borrow a book but on their way back, Nandram, the driver of a speeding car, overtook a parked vehicle and sideswiped two persons onanothermotorcyclebefore hittingthesiblings.
Bacchus at the time had just closed up the family's shop and was about to relax when a neighbour passed by and asked about her children. She had responded by saying that they would return home shortlybutthatwasnottobe.
The happiness in her life was completely erased after
she learnt that Shameer and Fareena were victims of an accident. Shameer died that same day from his injuries while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public
Hospital Corporation
(GPHC). Fareena survived a bit longer but died 10 days later from kidney failure in Trinidad after undergoing brainsurgerythere.
Bacchus was thrown into a state of depression and hasn't recovered from the shock and grief. The incident
even caused the woman and her husband to separate. He laterpassedaway Nandram, the driver of the car that took their children's lives, was found guilty of being responsible for their deaths after a threeyear trial. He was sentenced to three years in jail but was released on good behaviour after spending a short time behindbars.

“I have had to counsel children contemplating suicide… [some] being sexually abused at home,” he said, noting that there are many instances that he had to counsel students to help guide them in the rightdirection.

He said, “If I recall accurately, he was living with relatives who madehislifealivinghell.Itwashis second stint in Form One when I started teaching at the school. After his conversion to Christianity, Esseboom attended the Ebenezer Bible College of the New Testament Church of God in Guyana.Asamatteroffact, hesaid theclasseswereheldinthebalcony of the church that he currently pastors.
Herecalled,“IwasatCPCEand Ebenezer simultaneously Fortunately, I was I 'Module E' at CPCE which permitted us to live off campus. This facilitated my bibleschoolattendance.”
After his marriage, Esseboom lived in Essequibo Islands/West Demerara (Region Three) where Reverend Patrick Findlay was his Pastor.
His induction to the Pastoral Ministry came after the National Overseer of the New Testament Church, the late Surujnauth Surujpaul, his first Pastor, asked himtopastorthechurch.
“I had some preparation for the taskbecauseIwasaSundaySchool teacher, Youth Leader and, occasionally, also preached. I think myCPCEtraininghelpedshapeme topastor,”hesaid.
Bishop Esseboom has been pastoring Light of Lights New Testament Church of God since September 1, 1985, less than three monthsafterhegotmarried.
He said, “When I started the situation was less than ideal. But

“I have been there with them through all the seasons of their lives: difficulties as adolescents, selecting a career, preparation for marriage, navigating the marital ship during stormy weather, deaths in the family, etcetera. As they say 'thewholenineyards,”hesaid.
Esseboom has been the recipient of an award for being the longest serving Pastor of a Church in the New Testament Church of God.
He said that he is still amazed that 43 years later, there is still so much to learn about God and His ways.
He asserted, “Biblical texts I havebeenreadingsinceage18still have fresh meaning. Discovering truths in those verses still fascinates me.” While the financial rewards for pastoring may be sparse and in some cases overlooked deliberately –Esseboom still holds fast to the promise that “God is not unrighteous to forget your work andlabouroflove.”
He emphasised, “ultimately, God is the just rewarder So, I always keep pushing regardless! I try to keep an upbeat attitude too. I am not always successful, but I keeptrying.”

The Senior Pastor lists his marriage to his wife as his greatest
achievement.
He revealed his life's goal and vision is to bequeath to those for whom he is directly responsible an inheritance.

“I have had to counsel children contemplating suicide… [some] being sexually abused at home,” he said, noting that there are many instances that he had to counsel students to help guide them in the rightdirection.
The Teacher recalled as the Form Master at Central High School one of his male students complainedaboutthehardships,he facedathome.
He said, “If I recall accurately, he was living with relatives who madehislifealivinghell.Itwashis second stint in Form One when I started teaching at the school. For that year, I really had to mentor him. It was a challenge but it providedmewithperspectiveanda broader understanding of humans andtherefugeweseekinfacades.
He survived, mentally and otherwise, andwasabletograduate from Central High.” Many years later,Esseboomrevealedhemetthe same student at the Turkeyen Campusandthemanymemoriesof
the counseling sessions washed over him. He said, “It was one of my proudest moments as an Educator It was worth all the shortened lunch periods, long discussions after school…” To this end, Esseboom surmised, “Teachers help shape their charges. Children do so in some more profoundwaystoo.”
But
through the years things have gotten appreciably better That Church always attracted youths. Some who are in the congregation aretheresincetheyweretoddlers.”
Given his commitments, Bishop Esseboom said striking a balance in his professional and personallifehasbeenastrugglefor him.
He added, nonetheless, “my wife, Vanessa, and my children TrenaciaandTrevonneveraddedto thedifficulties.
I didn't always strike the right balance but I think they saw I was trying. That was a sweet reward in itself. I have two grandsons, and a thirdisonthewayandIamlooking forwardtoenjoyingthemtoo.”
The Senior Pastor lists his marriage to his wife as his greatest
achievement.
He revealed his life's goal and vision is to bequeath to those for whom he is directly responsible an inheritance.
To this end, he asserts, “Agood man leaves an inheritance to his children'schildren.”

From page 70 after a catch is completed. Under the old rules, if the batters crossed before the ball was caught, the new player to the crease could go to the non-striker’s end. Under the revision, the incoming batter must always go to the striker’s end. That nullifies one of potential tactic of getting an inform batter on strike during partnerships with tail-enders.
In other changes, umpires will have the authority to award five penalty runs to the batting seem if a fielder is deemed to have moved unfairly or deliberately distracted a batter while the bowler is in the run-up phase; and run-out regulations have been clarified to remove the “unfair play” section and any ambiguity when it comes to bowlers running-out batters who are out of their ground at the non-striker’s end.

AFP - Australian captain Aaron Finch admitted his team was “tired” and needed to freshen up before their defence of the Twenty20 World Cup title, but England skipper Jos Buttler on Saturday said the hosts remainthefavourites.
The reigning champions head into the showpiece cricket tournament on home soil, which starts today with the preliminary round after a lacklustre three-match series againsttheEnglish.
They lost 2-0, with the third game abandoned Friday evening due to rain, culminating eight matches for Australia in 26 days — threeoftheminIndia.
“I think the guys are probably a little bit tired at the moment,” Finch said after the washed out Englandmatch, wherehefell for a first-ball duck. “The schedule has been so packed over the last six to eight weeks that we identified a coupleofmonthsagothatwe wanted to make sure that
we’re in a position to be peaking at the right time of the World Cup and not beforehand.
“So it’s going to be important over the next couple of days to try and fresheneveryoneupasmuch aswecan.”
Buttler, whose team are riding high after a confidence-boosting buildup, insisted Australia were still the team to beat. “T20 is one of those games that can be unpredictable, but I think
history tells you that, generally, the host nation are slight favourites in big tournaments,” he said in Melbourne. “Many of us have travelled and played in Australia and know the conditions, but of course noone is going to know the conditions or be as accustomed to them as the Australian team. “They are also reigning champions, so you have to pick them out probably as favourites for thetournaments.”

Heavy overnight and morning showers on the East Bank of Demerara left the Pitch at the Providence
Stadium in a damp condition and although the rain stopped just before mid-day and hazy sunshine prevailed for the rest of the afternoon, it was not hot enough to drastically change the condition of the pitch.
Although the outfield at one of the fastest drying
International cricket venues in the world could have facilitated play, the encounter was called off 14:00hrs, the latest time for 20overstobeplayed,which would have constituted a match.
The No-Result means that pre tournament favorites Berbice, moved to 10 points to remain unbeaten, while the Presidents X1 collected their first two points to end the tournament with two points.
The Winner of todays match between Demerara and Essequibo, who are both on four points they both lost to powerhouse Berbice, will clash with
team from the Ancient County which continues to churn out the most National cricketersatalllevels.
Meanwhile, Stadium ManagerAzad Ibrahim said the forecast for today is for overcast conditions but was confident that if there is no rain, todays game will be played.
“If we had known a few days ago that the games would have been played here we would have prepared the pitch that was not used for the CPL earlier and the match would have b e e n p l a y e d t o d a y (yesterday) But it was nobodys fault it rained,” said Ibrahim (Sean Devers)

Someone recently asked me, if Ive noticed that my weekly column has taken a tone to only highlight the f l a w s o f s p o r t s administration in Guyana. They said while Im unbiased in my writing, the recent columns, especially those critical of the Government, couldeasilybeinterpretedas an axe to grind. I promptly responded, no, while offering an explanation However, I didnt dismiss their observation That person is an avid reader of the Kaieteur News and was amongst the first people to congratulate me on establishingasportscolumn; the only one of its kind in all the local daily newspapers. Im bombarded almost daily by readers with ideas and areas to touch on, but what wassaidaboutthetoneofmy columns troubled me. So I began reflecting My reflection took me to compare the Governments I grew under and currently living under their rule, really diving into how sport was and is being treated by the Heads-of-State, which lead to todays column President Mohamed Irfaan Ali deserves much credit for his attempt to accelerate sports development in Guyana… …andhereswhy BeforeIgoon, letmejust point this out…the PPP/C Governmentofthepastwere not known as into sports and they have a proven track record to use as an example of just how much they didnt
care for the sector. In fact, since 1992, until they relinquished power in 2015, the PPP/C in 23 years, have built three facilities for sports The Guyana National Stadium(2007),theNational Aquatic Centre (2011) and the National Track and Field Centre (2015). Add that to what was a seemingly nonfunctional Sports Ministry and National Sports Commission (NSC) and what youll get is a

The Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) in their manifesto had promised to provide a special fund for upgrading sports and cultural facilities while ensuring ensure that each regionhasapremium, multipurpose sporting facility that
of-the-art sports facilities, commencing in Regions 2, 6 and 10. They also promised to build a sports academy to serve all regions, which was rolled out by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, after first establishing its core sports disciplines and having$320Mtoitsdisposal from the 2021 budget for sports. By Rawle ToneyGovernment that truly didnt care. But its not like things changed following the 2015 elections; it got worst Usually, during an election campaign, governments and prospective governments

During his presentation intheNationalAssembly,Dr Ashni Singh said the 2022 budget for sports was to ensure that the Government deliver on President Ali s vision of a “bottom up
The Finance Minister reported that in 2021, 25 community grounds across Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 were upgraded. We can argueorpointouttheneedto havethosealready-upgraded community grounds properly managed, but what we cant argue is that a promise wasnt delivered While theres a robust and hard working NSC and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, theres absolutely nothing wrong with a Headof-State leading the charge for the change in the landscape for sports. Ill a d m i t , t h a t m u c h consideration should be given to the countrys elite athletes, and a meeting with President Ali to ascertain theirneedsandchallenges. I would also like to see the president taking the lead to ensure that those proposed facilities are accelerated at the same pace as the other development happening in Guyanainothersectors. The
sports policy placed on President Alis agenda.
Weveseenalotofsectors under this Government being policy driven and sports should not be left behind.
P r e s i d e n t A l i s administration is making it clear of using the countrys oil wealth to develop Guyana, with sports being considered as part of the transformation.
This particular column is by no means turning a blind eye to the much needed development in sports, but it is to give credit where it’s due. This column is to give credit to the apparent commitment of President Alis administration to move sportsforward.
It was the famous Pat Riley who once said, “There are only two options regarding commitment You’re either IN or you’re OUT; there is no such thing aslifein-between.”
