Having awarded a $41 million contract back in June for the construction of a Police Command Centre in Region Five, the Ministry of Home Affairs is now looking to spend an additional $30 million for infrastructure works to be executed at that same building.

This is according to the recent opening of bids, where a total of three contractors have applied to carry out the infrastructural works, which is estimated to cost $30,775,370. In June, during the signing of several capital projects for the year, the Ministry had awarded a

$41,777,190 contract to ACE Construction Service & Investment to build the Command Centre, where works are ongoing.

Also opened at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office, is the project to improve the drainage capacity at Ogle and Liliendaal.

This Ministry of Agriculture project is one being financed by the World Bank. Phase One of the project is estimated to cost $1,467,231,630.

The statement back in October said the ministry was aware of material circulating on socialmediarelatingtoallegations made against Persaud, regarding an incident which occurred on August 1, 2021 on the premises of the High Commissioner's residence.

Since relinquishing the Inter Guiana Games (IGG) basketball title in 2007, Guyana, though having an abundance of talent, has found it difficult to wrestle the trophy awayfromSuriname.

However, this year, Coach Willon Cameron is hoping to change the tide, telling Kaieteur News that the current crop has what it takes to produce a performance fitting enoughtoreclaimthetitle.

Local practical shooters displayedtheirspeedandaccuracy as they competed for top honours at the Guyana Sports Shooting Foundation's year-end match last th Sunday, 20 November The Competition at the Camp Stephenson, GDF Timehri shooting Range was sponsored by El Dorado Security Service of Lot 136YoungStreetandcomprisedof four challenging but fun stages. The match was conducted by Match Director Mrs Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon who declared itopen.

Shooters participated in 3 divisions, namely the Limited, Production and Open divisions. Each division had its unique requirements and restrictions, as prescribed by the USPSA (United States Practical Shooting

West

Association). Since each division has its own regulations, the shooters do not directly compete with each other across divisions. As such, prizes were awarded for st rd 1 to3 placeineachdivision.

AsiscustomarywithaG.S.S.F event, strict adherence to firearm safetywasfollowed.

The stage, 'Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot' featured nine paper targets hidden on the ground behind barrel obstacles and four distant mini-popper steel targets. Upon the start signal, competitors needed to move down a winding path, shooting from within the fault lines while leaning left and right to find the best angles to see the targets around the obstacles and hit their 'turkeys'. The best performers on this stage were able to shoot accurately while moving and turning smoothly, as indecisioncostvaluabletime.

required retrieving the firearm safely and quickly from a resting position on the top of a barrel and performing a speed reload before engaging each new array, using magazines that were also set down on the tops of barrels at separate sides of the stage. A few steel targetsrefusedtofallwhenfirsthit, forcing follow-up hits to earn the points, much to the frustration of the shooters and the amusement of thecrowd.

West Indies were honoured guests at a special function hosted by the Prime Minister of Australia at Parliament on Tuesday night. Thevisitorsareinthecapitalcityof Canberra for a pink ball first-class match against the Prime Minister's XI, which started yesterday at the ManukaOval.

In his feature address, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, spoke highly of the relationship between Australia and West Indies cricket and saluted the heroes of the game. He also welcomed the West Indies squad to the country and said the upcoming Test series will be a featureofthe“summerofcricket”.

In his speech, West Indies captain Kraigg Brwathwaite, said, the visitors are eagerly looking forward to this week's match, which dates back seven decades to when John Goddard led the West Indies against Jack Fingleton's side in1951tour

Works commenced on Reg. 2 stadium at Anna Regina

Works on the Anna Regina stadium in Region Two have commenced and are progressing smoothly according to the stipulated timeline.

The announcement was made by Region Two Vice Chairman,HumaceOodit,in a recent interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI), where he expressed his satisfaction with the first phase of work currentlyongoing.

“The contract was recently signed and work commenced at the Anna Regina community centre groundforastadium.Asyou know sports are important for young people and even people supporting in the discipline,”hesaid.

Works on the stadium will be executed in three phases.

The first phase will see

the ground being raised 18 i n c h e s a n d w i l l accommodate a grass mound. Works on the first phase are expected to be completed within eight months.

The second phase will see the execution of fencing and lighting work. The third phase will see the seating beinginstalled.

“So, Region Two will be having all of these facilities that it will not only be in Georgetown or Berbice but Essequibo can be one of those regions that we can have bigger activities happening at the ground especially, and you know that two other stadiums will be built,” said the vice chairman.

Meanwhile, as work on

the Anna Regina ground continues, the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) is looking at the Suddie ground which is similar to the Anna Regina Ground, to host its annual Essequibo nightandotheractivities.

Additionally, the Government through the Culture, Youth and Sports Ministryhasexpendedsome $60 million into upgrading six community grounds acrosstheregion.
