Thanksgiving: A very special one for Exxon and Hess people

Thanksgiving is one of three top holidays celebrated in America. Mostdefinitely, itislookedupondifferentlythan theFourthofJulyandthejoysofChristmas. Thanksgiving is,handsdown, themostsolemn, themostheartfelt, holiday for Americans, especially native-born citizens who do not havethosecompetingtiesbroughtaboutbyforeignbirthand earlier growth. On this biggest and grandest of American holidays, some Americans are having a bigger and better Thanksgivingthantheyhavehadinrecentyears.

Thanks in good part to Guyana’s cheap, high-quality crude, anditsnearnesstoAmericanports, theshareholdersof ExxonMobilandHessCorporation, andthosecompaniesthat dobusinesswiththem, areallblessedwitharicher, sweeter Thanksgivingthisyear Guyanesewhowerethankfulatthe beginning for their nation’s oil wealth are no longer so sure that it is going to mean anything for them, both now and in timetocome. Inatimeofspiralingprices, theworkersand families of ExxonMobil and Hess can feast on more Thanksgiving turkey, more stuffings, and more enriching gravy

Orhecanaffordtoflyin luxurytoAmericatoknockglassesandafewbackwithhis cronies and fellow corporate conspirators in Irving, Texas. Anyway, thatBossRoutledgecelebrateshisThanksgiving,it would be on thebacks of Guyanese who are forcedto carry that torturous 2016 ExxonMobil oil contract for their new slavemasters. ItistheGuyanesetaxpayers, whohavetopay for the opulent luxuries of the likes of Routledge and John Hess. Guyana’s own Bharat Jagdeo sees to that, due to his ferociousresistance, hisongoingcrumpling, torenegotiating thecriminal2016contract.

Like Darren Woods and Alistair Routledge of ExxonMobil, soalsoJohnHessCEOofthecompanywiththe samename. Hessisthemanwhocan’tkeephismouthshut abouthowmuchthewondersofGuyana’soilhasdoneforhis company’s profits, and what that means for workers, investors, and suppliers. Like ExxonMobil, Hess Corporation, too, isgivingmoretoitspeople. Fatdividends andsharebuybacks, andincreasedstockmarketprices, areall handsome pluses for the Americans. They are all having a fine, ifnotexceptional,Thanksgivingholiday

WhilethepeopleassociatedwithExxonMobilandHess partake of an exceptional Thanksgiving, the people of Guyanaareforcedtostareat, anddealwith, daysthatarethe essence of want and the dismal. They have all this oil, billions of barrels, and the best they can do is watch others, mainly greedy Guyanese and an army of foreigners, lift out andliftoffalltheirriches. Guyanesehavenexttonothing,on anygivenday, fortheirriches, yettheyarebombardedwith lavisheconomicnumbersandgovernmentlovesongs, about how rich they are, and how much potential they have to prosper

The problem with the PPPC Government’s promises is twofold.ThefirstoneisthatGuyanahasneverliveduptoits potential, itisalwayswoefullyunderperforming;andthisis preciselywhatappearstobethecaseagain, evenwhenroom is made for the presence of oil. So, it is a greatThanksgiving Day forAmericans, and a long, endless stretch of days of mourning for Guyanese. Routledge and Hess celebrating with Ali and Jagdeo pretending, whileGuyanesescramblingandquarreling.

Charrandass still functioning as High Commissioner in India

Charrandass Persaud continuestofunctionas G u y a n a ' s H i g h

CommissionertoIndiaweeksafter he was said to have been recalled byPresidentIrfaanAli.

Persaud's recall was triggered by an embarrassing video recording which showed him verbally abusing an animal rights activist in front of his New Delhi residence in India. After the video began circulating locally, PresidentAli said that Persaud had agreedtoreturntoGuyana.

H o w e v e r , b a s e d o n documented proof, Persaud is still f u n c t i o n i n g a s H i g h Commissioner In fact, the Alliance For Change (AFC) in a statement Thursday said it has confirmedthatdespitethecontents in an abhorrent and disgusting video that recently circulated of Persaud insulting an Indian citizen in vilest terms, he continues to function as Guyana's High CommissiontoIndia.

“The AFC received reports of this, and was able to confirm, that Persaud is scheduled to be a "guest of honour" at the India Economic Trade Organisation's (IETO) receptiononFriday,November25, 2022.TheIETOisanofficialorgan of the Government of India,”AFC said.

Further, according to the AFC informationinhandisthatboththe Minister of Foreign Affairs and President Ali are aware of, and approved Persaud's continued functioning, and attendance at this state function. A News Source article quoted President Ali as sayingthattheprocessofPersaud's recall has already started and he is clearingup, tohandoverandreturn home.

Meanwhile, theAFCsaidithas communicated with the host to bring to his attention the disgrace the presence of Charrandass Persaudattheeventcancause. The host from all appearances was unaware, theAFC said. “All rightthinking Guyanese were embarrassed and insulted by Persaud's behaviour and were relieved that he was being "recalled".

unfortunately, the nation was hoodwinked, to put it mildly, once again, by a callous, insensitive and dishonorable regime. After all, Charrandass Persaud's behaviour now seems to have been embraced by the PPP, or could it have been a caseofhismimickingtheirs?

Persaud, the man who had voted to bring down the Coalition Government back in 2018 was last year August recorded on camera verbally abusing the woman, Ms. Sonia Ghosh. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had initially said that the matter was closed as the allegations have not been substantiated. The statement back in October said the ministry was aware of material circulating on socialmediarelatingtoallegations made against Persaud, regarding an incident which occurred on August 1, 2021 on the premises of the High Commissioner's residence.

“This matter, brought to the attention of the Minis External Affairs of India by Commissioner Persaud, fully investigated by t relevant authorities and a formal response to the High Commission dated September 3, 2022 i n d i c a t e s t h a t , “allegations of sexual abusive words to complainant has [sic] not beensubstantiated”.

TheMinistryofForeign Affairs and Internation Cooperation theref considers this matter c However, in a video currently making the rounds on Social Media, the High Commissioner can be clearly heard speaking in very coarse language to a woman saying: “I don't need a dog in my yardalright.Youwantthedog, take it and put it between your legs…you probably want the dog to F#@% you…that's what you want. I don't care… I don't care whoyouare.F#@%you!”

However, later in a televised address President Ali after reviewing the video, he called P e r s a u d D u r i n g t h e i r conversation, Persaud, the President had said related to him thatthisisanincidentthatoccurred sometime in August last year and

P r e s i d e n t A l i s a i d notwithstanding this, he explained t o M r P e r s a u d t h a t , “representatives of our country must, on all occasions and every occasion, conduct themselves in the highest order and regard. Mr Charrandass then communicated to me that this matter was dealt with by the relevant agencies and authorities in India, and that there was no evidence of any misconduct, and for a matter of fact, hewasclearofanyaccusation of sexual harassment,” Ali stated. He said Persaud also shared with him the letter that substantiated this statement. “Notwithstanding all of this, Mr Charrandass has agreed with me that in keeping with the best interest of Guyana,

and the image of Guyana, that he would return home from his postinginIndia.”

“I want to assure all Guyanese thattheMinistryofForeignAffairs and the Government of India continue to work every day to strengthen our relationships, the relationship not only with India, but with every other partner across the globe. Mr Charrandass has agreed that he takes full responsibility for his actions and willreturnhomefromthisposting.
