AfterMarvaLangevinelostoneof her dearest friends in 2014, she observedthatchildrenandadults oftenfinditverydifficulttoacceptthedeath oftheirlovedones.

While some sulk into depression, others never go back to their normal lives. But to helpsuchgriefstrickenfamilies,theGuyana Golden Lives Organization, headed by a phenomenalyoungwomaniscreatingashift to aid in cushioning the devastating sadness someexperienceduringthattime.

Langevine recently hosted a reception with support from British High CommissionertoGuyana,JaneMillertohelp

raise awareness about the pain families feel afterthedeathalovedone.Thereceptionwas alsohostedtoraisefundsforherorganization that is works to comfort children who struggletocopewithlosingtheirlovedones.

“Aftermyfrienddiedin2014,Iobserved that children do grieve and adults may lack the energy and knowledge to assist children in coping with loss. Children have distinct notion of death at different stages of development.IknewIhadtobetherefor[my friend’s]twosonsaftershedied.Ipaidthem frequent visits and maintained contact with their grandmother who became a widow three months after [my friend] died,” Langevinesaid.

It was here that the young woman’s

In2016Langevinedecidedtoenter the Miss World Guyana Pageant on a ‘Child Bereavement Awareness’ platform to help enlighten the public andstartanationalconversationonthe issue. She copped the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ award for her inspiring advocacybutnotgiveupthere.

Eager to offer support to families stillreelingfromthelossoflovedones, she decided to launch the Guyana Golden Lives Organization, a charitable body that is funded by generous businesses, organizations andindividuals.

“I completed all of this while studying for a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Spanish Major and teachingfulltime.Itwasadifficulttask and it became exhausting. My mental and emotional health suffered greatly. Months later, following a frightening incident with suicidal thoughts, I decided to take care of myself...after the Pageant I continued to champion the cause and I was awardedtheQueen’sYoungLeaderAwardin 2018 for my work as a Child Bereavement Advocate,”theyoungwomanrecalled.

This event served to establish a good relation between Langevine and the British HighCommission.Infact,theformerBritish High Commissioner to Guyana, Gregory Quinn was among great supporters of the

Housing Ministry gives final offer to Mocha squatters

The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) through the Ministry of Housing and Water has offered five Mocha squatter families two bedroom houses each in Little Diamond HousingScheme.

However, the squatters have refused to move from their current location at Cane View/ Herstelling (Mocha) where Government intends to build the new Eccles to GreatDiamondHighway

The final offer which was published in a full page advertisement in Friday's edition of this newspaper states that “should this offer be rejected by theses illegal squatters, the Ministry will have no other choice but to proceed withademolitionexercise.”

Panicked US Tourist had jumped overboard before boat sank

Thomas Carstens Jnr has been found in the Rupununi River and according to Police, the man drowned after the boathewastravelingincapsizedin the Essequibo River, in the vicinity toApoteriVillage,RegionNine.

Police said 38 year old Carstens Jnr panicked and jumped overboard when the boat started taking in water on Tuesday His bodywasrecoveredonThursday

Asaresultofthis,waterentered the vessel causing Carstens Jr to panic, Police stated. Investigators were told that Carstens Jr. had jumped into the water where he held on to the side of the boat. He then tried to get back into the boat but while doing so the boat became offbalanceandtookinmorewater.

The trio was expected to return to the Resort around 17:00hrs that

The two had reported what transpired and the matter was reportedtothePolice.Asearchwas conducted for Carstens Jr the followingdaybuthewasnotseen.

Financial Analyst and Certified Accountant, Floyd Haynes has sought to assure the public that the audit of costs incurred by ExxonMobilintheStabroek Block is not a forensic audit orawitchhunt.

During an interview on K a i e t e u r R a d i o ’s Programme, Guyana’s Oil andYou,Haynessaidthathe is disappointed with the degree of misrepresentation i n t h e p r e s s t h a t overshadows the auditing process.

That discussion focused in part on the US$751,000 contract that was awarded earlier this year to VHE Consulting, a registered partnership between Ramdihal & Haynes Inc, Eclisar Financial, and Vitality Accounting & Consultancy Inc. The local consortium was supported by International firms SGS and Martindale Consultants for the ‘Cost Recovery Audit and Va l i d a t i o n o f t h e Government of Guyana’s ProfitOilShare’.

HaynesInc.saidheobserved several misconceptions being peddled in some sections of the media. The Business Professor said he felt it prudent to set the record straight on these matters.

He pointed to the inaccurate statements about the costs being reviewed by the Auditors while noting thatapproximatelyUS$7.3B incurred by Exxon from 2018 to 2020 is being audited and not US$9B as reported by the media. This includes costs incurred for the Liza One and Liza Two Projects which are currently producing over 360,000 barrelsofoilperday

Additionally, Haynes said concerns were raised relating to the date of execution of works He explained that while the contract was awarded in March, the audit started in Julyfollowingthereceiptof the commencement of work orderfromGovernment.

The DHBC through its Attorney, Sanjeev Datadin, explained that the vessel’s master was negligent since he failed to sail at a safe speed, failed to report difficulties being e n c o u n t e r e d u p o n approaching the bridge, and failedtousereasonablecare and skill in its operation so that the fuel tanker could veer away from, thereby avoiding collision with the

bridge.

T h e G e o r g e t o w n Lighthouse can be found on Water Street, in the Kingston area. It stands at 31 meters high or103feet.

The former wooded structure was rebuilt in 1830 to help guide ships into the Demerara River from the AtlanticOcean.

Prior to the Lighthouse, a beacon was used along the East Coasttoguideshipstoshore.

The octagonal structure, painted in red and white is maintained by the National Trust of Guyana. After being rebuilt by British Engineers, the Lighthouse was commissioned onJune1,1830.

It was built on a foundation of49greenheartpiles,makingit durableover200yearslater The foundation stone of the current Lighthouse was laid in 1830,

and was considered a shore station built to withstand high winds rather than waves due to its inland location.

· Toformthe head, cut the brown pipe cleaner to approximately 6 inches. Roll up the pipe cleaner leaving about 2 inches at the end.

In a recent exclusive interview with this magazine, Noel said that this venture has always been a dream he wanted to accomplish ever since he was a little boy Growinguphesaidhehadalways beenaloverforfastfoods,andhad the idea that he too can one day prepare these fast foods and perhaps even do them better “Since I was I don’t even know probably10,Iwasalwaysinspired and always liked fast food and I remember my mom taking me to KFC where one of my favourite things to eat was the Zinger Box. Anytime I travelled, I always enjoyed trying fast food from where ever I visited. I always thoughttomyselfthatIcandothis and I am pretty sure that I can do thisbetter,”herecalled.

Noel said that he grew up in Lethem and with Lethem being in the hinterland regions, there was not much fast food places as

compared to the ones on the coastland. So back in 2016 while looking for a venture in which to invest, the thought of Lethem not having as much as an ice-cream parlour or any fast food kind of place, that was when the whole businessideaofopeningafastfood establishment first germinated After getting the necessary resources,Noelsharedthatin2018 he decidedto open up his first fast foodbusiness,anice-creamshop.

Eventually, that business expanded and he started to offer other foods, which included burgersandpizzas.Itwasthepizza that was quite the attraction. Noel said that shortly after opening that venturehehadtoclosethebusiness due to some issues with the buildinghewasrentingatthetime tooperate.

After closing the business, he sharedthathewentontopursuehis studies, but shortly after the COVID-19pandemichit,hehadto returnhometoLethembecausethe University of Guyana had closed itsdoorsforface-to-facelearning.

“SoIdecidedtostayinLethem andinstayinginLethem,mymom was like you always said that you don’twannaworkforanyone,you wannadothisandyouwannahave this pizzeria and you always talkingaboutitwhynotstartnow I madeasetofexcusesbecauseatthe time everything was locked down even the border with Guyana and Brazil. So I had all these negative thoughts in my head and my mom waslikeyouknowyoushouldjust t r y , ” h e explaine d.

Being motivated by his momtopursue hisdream, that was when the whole idea of ‘APizzaLL’ came about. He noted thateversincethefirst business failed, he used the time to get better at his craft of making pizzas. Noel related that he comes from a family that loves cooking, and while in school he had pursed the Food and Nutrition subject because he too likes cooking, he said he knew his way around the kitchen.

When the pandemic came, he explainedthatheprettymuchdove intothebusinessheadfirst,having resigned from the job that he had and putting his degree on pause. “AndIhadmorefaithinmyvision, inmydreamthanIhadinanything elseandmymomshereally,really encouraged me to turn my dream intoareality,”headded.

‘APizzaLL’ which means “appease all” as in to appease all peoplewithpizza,waslaunchedin April 2020, and offers a wide variety of different toppings for pizzasthatyoucanorder Noel shared that ever since opening this new venture, his support base has been great and encouraging, from family, friends and even staff. A 5 2 y e a r o l d businessman was on Friday killed when a concrete water tank he and another person were contracted to clean
