Nurses say plans afoot to block them from migrating

...as authorities close local UK testing exam centre

Several local nurses, w h o w e r e preparing to sit computer-based test (CBT) assessment examinations which would enable them to work in the United Kingdom have expressed frustration after the local testing centre closed its doors to the examinations three weeks ago. Reports are that the examinations were only offered at the Global Technology testing centre on Camp Street through an arrangement with the Pearson Vue testing network

and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) oftheUK.

A registered nurse who was preparing to move to the UK said that the staff of Global Technology informed herviaemailrecentlythatthe centre was cancelling the examination she had paid to sitweeksearlier Shesaidshe was later told by a staff that the institution was upgrading its systems to higher standards required by Pearson VUE and as a result, it discontinued offering the tests.

An affected nurse told

this publication that she and her colleagues had already paid and booked to sit the examinations at Global Technology when they were abruptly informed that the centrewasnolongeroffering theassessment.Anursenoted that she and her colleagues wererefundedtheirmonies.

While some nurses have already found alternatives to sit the examinations, some told this publication that they believe that the government is behind the closure of the testing facility at Global Technology

“It had to be that the

government is involved. The government doesn't want to pay nurses' proper salaries and now they are trying to curtail our movement?” one ofthenursessaid.

The nurses noted that they were informed that the authorities are making every effort to curtail them from taking up jobs overseas Some are considering moving to Caribbean countries where there is a high demand for Guyanese nurses.

LastDecember,President IrfaanAli announced several increases in salaries in the healthsector

He said that at the time that nursing assistants would beearning$115,000monthly whilemidwiveswouldearna minimum salary of $169,438 and staff nurses would earn $169,438 monthly Staff

The sum is in addition to lucrative overtime among otherbenefits.

Last February, during the 2022 national budget debates, Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony admitted that Guyana is losing its n u r s e s d u e t o t h e government's inability to compensate them with

investigation by Brazilian police for laundering

US$16.5M in smuggled gold throughshellcompanies

The Brazilian Federal Police in Boa Vista, Roraima are investigating a Guyanese businessman for allegedly laundering some US$16.5M in smuggled gold through shellcompaniesinBrazil.

According to the Brazilian Federal Police (Policia Federal), the investigation was launched onFridaylast.

“On the morning of this Friday (7/7), the Federal Police launched Operation Vanglória, with the aim of investigating suspects using shell companies to move more than R$80 million (US$16 5M) that would originate from the purchase and sale of illegal gold,” the

Federal Police announced on itsofficialwebsite.

“The investigations began after receiving information linking a Guyanese businessman, who would work in the mining industry in his home country (Guyana), to suspicious activities in Brazil,” the Brazilianauthoritiessaid.

While the police did not reveal the businessman's identity, it detailed that “on paper” the suspect owns a company that sells food items in Manaus, Brazil but when investigators arrived at the location, no such businessexists.

Instead, there was only a vehicle shop at location with notiestothesuspect.

Investigators also found out that the Guyanese businessman is working along with a Brazilian partner to smuggle gold through other shell

companies in the country The two of them managed to launder some R$60M (Braziliancurrency)worthof gold through another shell company registered as one trading in hospital supplies. Investigatorscheckedoutthe address of that company too and found that no hospital supplies were being sold there.

“The operation seeks to clarify whether the amounts (of money) moved originate only from smuggling gold from Guyana or whether the businessman was illegally exploring mines in indigenous areas in the state of Roraima (Brazil),” Brazilianpolicesaid.

The Policia Federal has since obtained three search and seizure warrants issued by the 4th Federal Criminal Court of the Federal Court in Roraima Investigations are ongoing.

Govt. yet to account for use of US$607M oil money in 2022 …asNRFAnnualReportyettobemadepublic

The Government of Guyana (GoG) was hit with severe criticisms in 2021 when it rushed through the passage of the Natural Resource Fund (NRF) Act in Parliament during the Christmas season. In fact, the legality of its passage was even challenged in the High Court by Opposition Parliamentarians, in a bid to address its deficiencies but wassubsequentlydefeated.

A key concern for Guyanese was transparency in the governance and use of the revenue that flows into the account from the oil and gassector Stakeholderswere especially disturbed that the legislation features no penalties for misuse of the funds. When it comes to transparency, the Act providesforanannualreport, detailing the use of the revenue, to be laid in the National Assembly and published for all Guyanese to see, however this document isyettobemadepublic.

In 2022, Guyana for the first time used a portion of its oil revenue to fund its National Budget Some

US$607 6 million was approved in the National Assembly

Section 16.2 of the NRF Act explains that “All withdrawals from the Fund shall be deposited into the Consolidated Fund and shall be used only to finance- (a) national development priorities including any initiative aimed at realizing an inclusive green economy; and (b) essential projects that are directly related to ameliorating the effect of a majornaturaldisaster.”

Government has not identified what are the “national development priorities” being funded by the oil revenue. This then begs the question as to how exactly the money generated from the nation's natural resourcewasputtouse.

On August 30, 2023 President Irfaan Ali appointedthemembersofthe NRF Board along with the Public Accountability and

Oversight Committee, and the Investment Committee. These bodies are expected to assist in the management of theFund.

Section 32(1) of the legislationrequirestheBoard of Directors to prepare and submit to the Minister, as soon as practicable but not later than 30 days after the receipt of the audited financial statements of the Fund and the external auditor's report from the Bank, theannualreportofthe Fund.

The audited financial statements should have been completed since April 30, 2023, in keeping with the provisionsoftheNRFAct.

The annual report is expected to include the audited financial statements of the Fund and the external auditor's report on the Fund, toaccountforitsuse.

The annual report, according to the NRF Act shall also include feature details of all deposits to, and withdrawals from the Fund, among other critical information regarding the performanceoftheFund.

According to the legislation at Section 32(4), the Minister is expected to lay this report in the National Assembly at least 30 days after receipt from the Board of Directors. The Law goes on to state that this particular report, along with audited financial statements shall be made available to the public, three days after being laid in Parliament.

Be that as it may, the Annual Report of the Fund could not be found on the Ministry of Natural R e s o u r c e s w e b s i t e s yesterday Efforts made by this publication yesterday to contact the subject Minister, Vickram Bharrat on the progress of the report were futile.

The purpose of Guyana's Natural Resource Fund is to ensure there is prudent management of the nation's oil earnings for the present and future benefit of the people by ensuring that

volatility in natural resource revenues does not lead to volatilepublicspending.

With little transparency regardingtheuseofGuyana's oil wealth, International FinancialAnalystsworrythat the revenue may not be used to develop the country and improve the lives of its poor citizens.

For instance, Director of Financial Analysis at the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA), Tom Sanzillo recently pointed out that the government has not been prioritising saving the funds generated from the industry like Norway but has

instead embarked on a massive infrastructural and energy development scheme which may very well benefit its partner, ExxonMobil more than the citizens in the country

He reasoned, “It may work to Exxon's benefit to put in new roads, it may be Exxon's benefit to build a new gas plant but they don't need that kind of electricity system in Guyana and who knows if they actually need the roads that are being built because there is no public process so what you have is a plan and the plan is to use the money to keep the existing political structure in power

and that's what is going to be done.”

Meanwhile, Director of Energy at Americas Market Intelligence, Arthur Deakin, during a recent panel discussion on Guyana's oil wealth shared the view that government lacks a clear structure on how the resources from this sector will be used to transform the livesofGuyanese.

Deakin was asked to share his views on why Guyana still has high levels of poverty and why he was optimistic about the situation. In his response, the International Energy Analyst e x p l a i n e d t h a t t h e Government of Guyana has made “fruitful decisions” which led to investments from the ExxonMobil-led consortium in the Stabroek Block He noted that Guyana's oil sector has been moving at one of the fastest paces known in the industry; however when it comes to translating that wealth to the population, this has been taking some time. In fact, the

specialist pointed out that for the wealth to benefit the population, it would require structural planning by the administration.

To this end, Deakin said, “The government lacks a clear vision, a clear plan on how it's gonna spend the money it's receiving from the oil revenue so I think there is a l o t o f r o o m f o r improvement.”

He was keen to note, “Of course, the government is going to say that they are doing a really good job, they wouldn't admit that they are not and there is a lot of credit for what they are doing in terms of bringing in new investmentfortheoilandgas field for the Stabroek Block and also surrounding blocks but when you're thinking about structurally planning, sustainable longterm wealth for the population, I think there's still a lot to be done. I haven't seen a plan or a clear structureofhowthemoneyis gonnabespentinawaythat's goodforthepopulation.”

THE LEADING DIVIDER; THE BIGGEST PICTURE

Supporters of an uber-sensitive PPP/C Government claim to see ulterior motives when there is only their overworked imagination in action. The pretense is that efforts are constantly in motion by forces hostile to the Government to place a wedge between the new, inexperienced President Irfaan Ali and the grizzled, seasonedVicePresidentBharratJagdeo. Also, whenpoints aremadeabouttheweaknessorabsenceofsomeministers andthecrushofthetwoseniorleaders, touchydefenderscry that these are nothing but tireless attempts to divide the government, andweakenit.

There was a picture of four people in a room, one of which was President Ali, and it told a thousand tales, no matter what PPP/C stalwarts and loyalists do to condemn what they erroneously believe is a prime objective of socalled opponents of the government, meaning, divide. The second was about two press conferences, one held by the President, andtheotherbytheVicePresident.Thepictureis morethanrevealing, itisatragedyexposedfortheworldto see the evidence of what all Guyanese knew was taking placebehindthescenes, thebrightsmiles, andthecarefully choreographed presentations. Jagdeo is the controller and commander in the picture, which could have its merits, depending on the issue being addressed, the points being made. But what took the breath away was the image of Guyana’sPresidentAlireducedtohavinghisheaddownand furiously focused on capturing what was being said on his writingpad.

DEAREDITOR,

An independent impartial investigation must be held as soon as possible into the events surrounding the alleged grooming and rape of a 16-year-old Indigenous child by Nigel DharamlallwhileasMinister of Local Government and a Member of Parliament for the People’s Progressive Government (PPP) The President of Guyana, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), the Guyana Police Force, the Child Care and Protection Agency (CPA) and the Minister in the Ministry of Human Services must answer these questions Why was a young 14-yearold Indigenous teenager arrested, placed before the court, charged with 20 counts of murder, placed in juvenile detention yet proof of investigations consistent with the charge of murder was not and could not be presented in court by the prosecution when the case wascalledup? Whywasthis differentwhena40-year-old MinisterofGovernmentand PPP MP accused of

DEAREDITOR,

Please allow me to express my thoughts to stir something in our leaders to wake-up and take seriously the charge being brought againstallofyou.

We have observed the landscape of Guyana’s caretakers (leaders) for far too long, awaiting to see the patriotismtheyoftentalkand brag about, but to no avail...all we get is HIGH TREASON. This is the charge, a serious charge but an accurate charge ConsideringGuyanaissmall nationandblessedwithsuch abundance of resources, it stillamazesmethattheword poverty is still being used to describe our beautiful nation Our leaders have squandered our natural resources and disregarded Guyana’s most valuable and renewable resource - The People.Guyaneseusedtobe known as a people who care for each other, now the sentimentofthedayis-me, myself and I. During the course of Guyana’s independence and becoming a republic, there hasneverbeenanypolitician who has faced jail time for crimescommittedbeitmajor crimes or crimes of corruption and fraud, yet in countless other countries of

the world former presidents, prime ministers, senior politicians and public servants are investigated, charged, placed before the courts, found guilty and sentenced accordingly As we see clearly in comparing these two cases, the police procedures and protocols and DPP procedures and protocols used were inconsistent.SocantheDPP, CPA and GPF inform Guyanese what are the proceduresandSOPswhenit comes to major crimes of rape and murder These procedures and SOPs must stand up to scrutiny and transparency

What parades as confidentiality often in Guyanaisnotconfidentiality but secrecy and we know injustice thrives in an environmentofsecrecy

There needs to be an overhaulofthesesystemsas they have failed these two young Indigenous children and fail and have failed countless of other Guyanese of all ages, ethnicities, economic status and residency

These cases of these 2

Indigenous children have engendered horror and consternation throughout Guyana. Can every mother, father, guardian and child resteasywhentheinjustices, in co mp eten ce an d discrimination of our criminal justice systems are exposed and laid bare. The officials who are saying the justice system worked are very wrong and are either uninformed, unconcerned or benefitfromthefailedstatus quo and it does not matter howmanylawsarepassedif there is corruption, lack of accountability, lack of full a n d i m p a r t i a l implementation and consistency Why has it taken 13 years after the passing of Guyana’s Sexual Offences Act 2020 for the Ministry of Education to have in place a policy for addressing sexual violence inschools.

This state of affairs cannotcontinueasis, weasa country cannot keep failing our most precious resource, our children, and failing themweare!!!

Yourstruly,

ofournation.Theleadership of Guyana, at every level of society is guilty of the same charge. They purposefully fail to treat the whole nation as equal Guyanese citizens. ‘Politricks’ is the tune of their song and only their families, friends, and supporters benefit from the abundance of Guyana’s resourcesbeingplundered.

T h e r u l i n g administration tries to ‘pacoo’ the people every chance they get. They are throwing cash at the people, repair and build roads, visit communities, and make many promises, pretending tocareabouttheplightofthe citizens, all in hopes of winning votes I say this withoutreservationsbecause all the works and promises cease immediately after elections and starts again only when the next election time comes around. This cycle is sure as day, in the history of this nation’s leaders MO. It must be of great concern to our leaders when more than half of Guyanese have a very bleak outlook on their future in Guyana and in their minds, their only hope for a better

thanpovertylifeistomigrate tosomeothercountry. Even thoughGuyanais producing one of the world’s most desired and valuable natural resource, thereiswidespread doom and gloom sentiments for the people of Guyana. You hear people saying thingslike“Danahfuhwe demahguhtekalldemoney fuh dem self” or “dem gon fulldehpacketandlefwerite wehwedeh”. Therealityis,

based on the history of Guyana’s leaders and the traits being displayed by the current leaders the nation of Guyana will once again come-up as the loser its resources gone, a few filthy trich and the nation still in poverty I say “TREASON” the crime of betraying your country, that’s what our leadersareguiltyof.

Here is probably why Guyana’s Judicial System is not working

DEAREDITOR,

Justice Sir Udo Udoma was a prominent Nigerian jurist of unprecedented quality In 1938, sensing his levelofbrilliance, theelders ofhisminorityIbibotribeof South East Nigeria pooled resources and sent him on a scholarship to study in the UK.By1945,hehadearned his Ph.D. in law from the University of Oxford. He was subsequently appointed ajudgeoftheHighCourtof Uganda and in 1963, just after that country’s independence, he was appointed the first black Chief Justice. Justice Udo Udomamadequiteanumber of landmark decisions and continues to be “celebrated for his diligent and irreproachable dispensation ofjusticeinUganda.”

Editor, a story is told of how Justice Udoma dismissed a libel case where the plaintiff had sued for libel over a statement that was uttered by clergy in church. In dismissing the

matter, the judge reasoned that the utterances of the clergy, while they might be perceived to be slanderous, innowayaffectedthesocial or economic standing of the plaintiff.

I cannot summarise the entirerulingherebecauseof space but this is a case I would recommend lawyers andjudgestoread.

Editor, in the course of last week, Senior Counsel, Ralph Ramkarran decried that Guyana’s criminal justice system was on the verge of collapse Personally,Idonotthinkthat any intellectually sound person needed such statements from the elderly SC to know that the entire justice system is decadent and indeed on the verge of collapse. When it comes to thedeliveryofjustice, weare in the Orwellian Animal Farm where ‘all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.’ In thislandofmanywaters, the law is indeed an ass. Its

application is often contrary to commonsense. For the rich and the politicians, it is an ass on which they ride to tread on the poor and the vulnerable.

The result of this has been the birth of a society where wrong is right and right is wrong. Let us first put aside the sloth in the delivery of justice but let us consider some of the decisions emanating from the court and one would be able to see wherein lies our judicialproblem.

Of recent, the judges have been awarding huge sums of money in libel matters. In fact, suing for libel is quickly becoming one of the most profitable businesses in Guyana. My only concern, editor, is that the criteria which these

Contracts to Friends and Family

judges use to arrive at these huge sums remain quite unclear and unknown. You find in one case a judge is awarding GYD$ 3 million andinanotheridenticalcase, sameplaintiffanddefendant, the judge awarded the sums ofG$10million.

How is this possible?

Editor, the word on the streetsisthatthisisacowboy country where politically aligned judges are awarding large sums in damages in these libel cases for three reasons: one to silence or if possible, even bankrupt the critics of their political parties. Another reason is that there is a well-planned machinery to silence any independent media from conducting investigative journalism.KaieteurNews,

So, for those who constantly complain about contract awards, the main question I have is this. Can theindividualsorbusinesses that are awarded these contracts fulfill and complete the contract or

Here is probably why Guyana’s Judicial System is not...

Frompage5 from these frivolous libel cases, is likely to pay in excess of G$40M Yes, G$40M. Editor, what I find also to be strange with these cases is this. If someone libeled someone using similar or identical statements on different occasions, whycan’tajudge consolidate all those cases

into one and deliver a single judgment? Why should a judge offer different decisions and awards for identical cases, leave alone the fact that they could have occurred on different dates?

For example, if someone said personAwas a thief on MondayandonTuesdaythat same individual called PersonA, a thief of oranges

and on Friday, a thief of big oranges, why should a fairminded judge really award different damages for those identicalutterances?

When one puts into considerationtheremarksof one of the bosses of Hess as reported in the local media that the president assured himthatthejudgewasgoing to grant a stay in the full

liability case and so said so done, it becomes a serious cause for concern for many of us without political connectionsandmoney

Editor, I also saw on social media that the highranking official who was accused of allegedly raping and sodomizing the underage girl allegedly boasted that in any worst-

casescenario, hewouldonly lose his job but would go to nojail.

This was online even before the matter was dismissedbytheDPP

Whatis of moreconcern is this: a friend of mine told me that in 2020, during the height of the electoral controversy, Western diplomats had a meeting apparently with one official of the former Government andthatinthatmeeting, one oftheenvoystoldtheofficial that the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) was going to rule against them so why cling on power After all?

This was even before the lower court had delivered theirverdict.

Because there was a lot of misinformation during that period, I did not take suchastatementseriously If this is true, it would imply that the judicial system is rottenfromthebottomup.

Editor, just as an effective, fair, and balanced media and opposition are

important in any functional democracy, so should the judiciary

A judicial system that is perceived by masses to be politicizedandexistsonlyto serve the interests of the elites, canbeaprecursorfor social breakdown. In the caseofGuyana, someofthe hefty awards being awarded by some judges to the libel plaintiffsshouldbeaserious cause for concern and must be investigated These awards essentially are empowering officials to do whatever they can with our resources after all, should anyone, including the media speak out, we can run to the courts of law and sue for libel.

Clearly, thereisacrisisof confidence in the judicial systemfromthelowercourts to the apex court Personally, I believe that once the welfare of the justices is questionable, you openthemtoinfluences.

Firstly, Ellingham was why Omai returned to Guyana."Well,Ithinklikeall businesses, we have to look f o r e x c e p t i o n a l opportunities And so Guyana, it's on the north flank of South America There's a Greenstone belt there. So, I mean, if you're lookingforgold, youlookfor places where, you know, there's usually Greenstone belts, there's histories of gold mining, a good solid jurisdiction where the government is pro mining,

pro development, and also there's been some fairly significant acquisitions of other companies that were active in Guyana with the premiums to market, so it's really emerging very quickly as a destination for explorationmining,"shesaid inresponse.

Omai holds a 100% interest in the Omai gold project in Guyana, which produced over 3.7 million ounces of gold between 1993 and 2005.The property hosts two gold deposits: the shearhosted Wenot Deposit and the adjacent intrusive-hosted GiltCreekDeposit.

The updated NI43-101 Mineral Resource Estimate, released in October 2022, more than doubles the initial Resource announced in January 2022 by expanding the Wenot Mineral Resource and incorporating the Gilt CreekDepositthatliesbelow aformerpitthatproduced2.4 millionouncesofgold.

The CEO was also asked why the company left Guyana.

Ellingham explained that Omai had "fell into a kind of strange time." According to her, as soon as the company came into production, gold prices dropped. However, she noted, "They made moneydespitethat."

She added that the c o m p a n y a l s o t o o k advantage and acquired a very large project in

neighbouring Suriname Ellingham stated that the company wanted to build the mine economically, so they relocatedthemill.

To this end, the CEO underscored that Omai's relocating in the past has worked out for the present team working in Guyana goldfields.

"Whythat'sgreatforusis because, of course, they didn't completely deplete the resources, theydidn'texplore underneath the existing deposits that they were mining, and they didn't explore elsewhere on the property. So it kind of sets it up perfectly for us," she added.

Ellingham was then asked about the company's rebuilding of its resources in Guyana and exploration

activities.

She explained that while she is not sure if Omai has beaten its world record, she highlighted that within two years, the company was able todoubleitsgoldresources.

IT’S TRADITIONAL!

Years ago, a grieving mother whohadjustlost her son related to reporters what a good boy he was. According to the mom, the lad worked for $5,500 per week. Each week, he would only keep $500 for himself andgivehertherest.

Upon reading this, it struckmethatlongago, your first pay envelope would usually go to your mother who would determine what yougotasspendingmoney

It was a sign of respect then for sons who had just started to work to give their salaries at the end of each week to their mother This wouldusuallycontinueuntil the son was ready to get marriedorleavethehome.

WhenIlook at Guyanese brothers and sisteracrossthelandscape,I observe recoiling from any idea, and reaching for, settling comfortably in, an ideology It is a crippling, decimating, racialideology

I do not believe that we have grown by much in

areas of substance in 70 years, andIamnotnearthat milestone, yet. Ourzoneof strength has been the warming sanctuary of race; it has mutated into our zone of clannish thinking, our zone of tribal retreat and restoration, when spirits are low Wehavebeenluckyin that we are still a polity in one piece, despite seasonal upheavals and the tempests that toss for a loss. We fall backwards, andclaimthatas a victory In governing. In leadership. Inrelationships. Ineconomicsandsociology andthecivicsofouralways ruffled, but muffled, environment. Today, when we have the biggest endowment that any nation, any people, could dream about, hope for, we still cannotwrestourselvesaway from a most divisive and self-destructive ideology Though there is the fullest d i s c e r n m e n t a n d appreciation of where closing ranks can lead us, how it can benefit the

TheGreekswerereputed to be the wisest of all, but check how they fell apart through infighting. The Romans had the power and the tools to rule the world forever, andthentheycaved in from within, due to their failure at societal cohesion, and clearheaded, clinical coherence.

Is this not what is happening here, with Mr Blinken coming and going, and all this winking and nodding going on with Guyanese caught in a spell,

So, we return to where we are stuck helplessly: race. The dominant idea that it is, its conquering culture, itsenduringpassion andelectricity Wefoolishly think that we profit from racepractices. Surgeon uses cow tissue to reconstruct man’s heart

Guyanese G conducted utilising patient's procedure openheart surgery of its kind, to be performedinthecountry

The life-saving surgery, conducted on 24-year-old Dexter George, involved the complete removalofacardiactumour, partial removal of the right atrium, and the utilisation of bovine pericardium, a tissue derived from a cow's heart, for the reconstruction of the damagedrightatrium.

According to Dr Stephens, "the procedure challenged the conventional understanding of the heart's resilience, illustrating that substantial portions of the heart can be removed with positive outcomes”.

aggressive approaches in similar cases, pushing beyond traditional boundaries” Dexter had been diagnosed with a severe cardiac conditionearlierthisyear

A small lesion in the right atrium, initially believed to be a blood clot, rapidly grew into a massive tumour over the course of nine months growing to over 10cm in size. The tumour compromised

g grappling with breathing difficulties, an engorged liver, and the inability to leave his bed unassisted.

Given the advanced stage of the tumour, the surgical team initially had limited options. However, they proposed utilising tissue derived from the lining of a cow's heart to reconstruct the damaged right atrium.

Notwithstanding, the team offered to perform a procedure that involvesexcisionofcardiactumour (complete removal), subtotal excision of the right atrium (partial removal) and reconstruction of the right atrium with bovine pericardium (tissue from a cow's heart).

The chances of survival were incredibly slim, less than one per cent, butbothGeorgeandhisfamily bravelyagreedtotaketherisk.

Thesurgicalteamremoved90% of Dexter's right atrium along with the enormous tumour that had plaguedhisheart.

To reconstruct the damaged right atrium, they employed an unconventional technique, utilising

tissue derived from the lining of a cow'sheart.

The nature of the mass, whether a cancerous angiosarcoma or an organised clot assimilated into the heart's wall, awaits confirmation fromthepathologyreport.

In an interview, Dr Stephens shared “The procedure challenged the conventional understanding of the heart's resilience, illustrating thatsubstantialportionsoftheheart can be removed with positive outcomes”.

Since undergoing surgery on June22,2023,Dexterhasexhibited remarkableimprovement.

As a result, Pixels Guyana Inc. became one of

the most visited Facebook pages and websites in Guyana with average of more than 20,000 views per day.

However, Gildarie said hehadacrazyidea“tobully” ENETandGPLonemorning whilelyingonhisbed.

Afterlearningoftheplan Persaud reportedly told Gildarie “Count me in”.

GPL followed-up too by supporting the project with free electricity and the residents of Region Three have since been able to benefit from traffic cams.

In interviews where he sat as Chairperson of the appointments subcommittee, he took great pains to inform lawyers that although we were running a Legal Aid Clinic and many of the persons visiting it were from poor or challenged backgrounds, they must always be treated with dignity and respect and in no way different than if they were able to retain private counsel.

improvements seen in 2022, significant gender gaps remain in participation and unemployment rates. Wages and productivity have also returned to their prepandemictrends, pointingto stagnation at best, the report warns.

According to ECLAC and the ILO, to reverse this situation, the region’s countries need active labour policiesthatpromotegreater job creation, increased formalizationandmore(and better) inclusion of women and young people in the labour market. Thus, labour policy instruments must be broadened and better coordinatedinordertoavoid contractionsinemployment. Also, more emphasis must be placed on the economic reactivation by including dynamic sectors that drive economic growth and employment.

World No.1 Iga Swiatek stunned by Elina Svitolina in Wimbledon quarterfinals

USA Today - World No. 1

Iga Swiatek was ousted in the Wimbledon quarterfinals by unseeded Elina Svitolina, 75, 6-7(5), 6-2.

The 28-year-old Svitolina is now in her second career semifinal at Wimbledon, less than nine months after giving birth to a baby girl, with her husband, fellow tennis player Gael Monfils, after returning to the WTA tour in April.

She completed the nearly three-hour match and a dominant third set when, on match

point, Swiatek made one of 41 unforced errors, hitting the ball into the net during a short rally.“First of all I’m going to have a beer, probably,” Svitolina said after the match.

“At the beginning of the tournament if someone would tell me that I will be in the semifinal and beating world No. 1, I would just say that they’re crazy.”

Svitolina, who entered the tournament as a wild card, will now take on Marketa Vondrousova, who upset No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula, 6-4, 26, 6-4, in her third career Grand

Slam semifinal.

Swiatek got to the fourth round after surviving two match points against Belinda Bencic, and found herself down one set, but stormed a 3-1 lead in the second set before Svitolina came back to force a tiebreak.

With her victory, Svitolina became the third player in the Open Era to beat four former women’s singles Grand Slam champions in a single major tournament (Venus Williams in the first round, Sofia Kenin
