DEAREDITOR,
I have noticed for quite some time, that some illinformed letter writers and columnistsinthemediakeep harping a total lie about the previous government being responsible for the present dismal state of the sugar industry
I will now give you undisputedfactsofthestory
From back in the 70s to the early 90s, which I know about, the sugar union GAWU which was once led byanowdeceasedpresident of Guyana, called numerous strikesintheindustry, which lasted for, not days, but weeks.
Ontopofthat, therewas never a strike without arson of the canes in the fields. Then the corporation had to give in to whatever was demanded by the union Manystrikeswerecalledfor frivolous reasons Plus, whenthoseworkerswenton strike, they could afford to stay home, while their unemployed relatives went andworkedasscabs.
When the fires were set in the fields, the security personnel would try to go to the locations to arrest arsonists, to no avail, because the trick used by these scoundrels, was that theyjoinedtwolongcandles andlightthemwithdrytrash at the bottom and when the fire starts, they are long gone.Thentherewerelotsof stealingofvaluablevehicles parts by factory and workshops workers; plus sabotageinbothplaces.
Acurrenttopofficialwas a chief instigator of strikes.
Thetruthhasbeenhiddenby the union and its sympathizers for too long. They cannot be so shameful to deny these facts. Sugar’s present hole was dug a long timeago.
Whatever is being done now to resuscitate sugar is totally owed by this government to the sugar industry GAWU should prop up the industry with theirownfunds.
I personally don’t like politics, because the meaning is disgusting. Poli means many or plenty, and tics are blood sucking insects.
Whatdoesthatsayabout the current crop of politicians Dark hole indeed.
Regards, NameProvided offer them no insurance coverage, the salarylooksattractivebutin time the employed persons gets no protection under the National Insurance Scheme. This is a very unethical practicebycompanies.
Attimes,Iwonderifthe group or the department responsible for awards of contracts; security and otherwise if they do the math, whether they would realize that it is the Government of Guyana and the employees of the contractors would be the ones ultimately taken advantage of Whenever there is tendering below cost, itisalwaysthecountry and the employees who will suffer Employees suffer in the form of manipulation of overtime, wages, weekend premium, annual leave etc.

Many Ministries and Departments become alarmed and are confused when they see new security companies without an established record in the industry being awarded security contracts for their sensitive locations because they now feel they have to become security tutors to trainthesenewpersons. AllIamadvisingisthatit shouldnotbethatthelowest tenderwins the contractand that other factors should be taken in to consideration whentheawardsofcontracts are being done. From the above points that I have raised, the fact has been clearly established that tendering below cost would be catastrophic to a number of projects and to lives and properties of the people of Guyana/Government of Guyana.
Sincerely,
