A stunning revelation and a lack of will The nation must have been stunned by the news that the recently commissioned forensic laboratory at Turkeyen does not have the capacity at present to conduct DNA testing. To add insult to the injury done to the public purse, the authorities unashamedly announced that to date, the police have not done any testing at the over one billiondollar facility, ostensibly established to assist that law enforcement agency in its ongoing efforts to fight crime. It was anticipated that with the discovery of a decomposing corpse at Pattensen late last month that there would be some urgency to have a determination as to whose body it was. Not so, it is reported that the Crime Chief can only say that the samples will be sent for tests to be done soon. One would have thought that the work of the police does not end with a literal interpretation in the operationalization of its motto of “Service and Protection” which includes prevention of crime, but would be extended to include the successful prosecution of those who are detected as having committed those crimes. Now how does that thinking fit in to the situation where a body is discovered with multiple stab wounds and there is an apparent lethargy when it comes to identifying the victim. Maybe this is a case like the old saw, where the sheriff of a small town upon examining the body of a man with stab wounds about the body and a gunshot to the head, sagely observed that it was the worst case of suicide he had ever seen. This is the kind of farcical theatre that lowers the police force in people’s estimation. The impression is gained that a decision has not been taken by the force administration, as would have been expected, so long after such a gruesome find. There also does not seem to be any examination of the possibility that a serial killer could be on the loose as had been raised previously in these columns. A discerning public is likely to wonder if the police hierarchy pays any attention to the letter and editorial columns; whether the public relations unit provides reports containing analyses and recommendations on issues raised. From all indications, this practice which occurs in modern police forces the world over seems to have been overlooked in the Guyana Police Force, which is struggling to reform and modernize itself. How this will be possible remains to be seen, especially if the thinking is not adjusted in keeping with other universally accepted policing standards. One sure way of making the best use of the available intellectual capacity within the force is by establishing the police version of a think tank which examines political, economic, social, technological, and environmental issues that can positively impact on effective and efficient policing in service to this nation. The worn-out excuse that the force can only work with what society produces is a cop-out, and effectively prevents the introduction of innovative and creative solutions to a defective socialisation system. How much the force is interested in recreating itself and reforming all aspects of its image is left to the jury, which is out as this is written. At the just concluded Guyana Festival, patrons were exposed to the offerings of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), but nowhere was there a similar Guyana Police Force participation. That should answer the question on interest of self-promotion. Another point is the remedial intervention that the GDF has established for its recruits and in-service ranks who may be below par scholastically. If the GPF has a similar programme it is a well-kept secret as far as its achievements are concerned. To be brutally honest, the top brass in the force seem quite content to pay lip service to the changes envisioned by their subject minister. How else can one explain the continuing unethical behavior throughout the ranks? What seems to be sorely lacking is the will and willingness to not only promote desired changes, but a demonstrated commitment through meaningful participation by leading from the front and by example. Sensible use of available technology and optimal utilization of the forensic laboratory would be steps in the right direction.

GUYANA IS FULLY CARVED UP DEAR EDITOR, The Guyana map below taken from Redmonitor.org shows seven sites - all adding up to one million acres or hectares of logging concessions handed out to Chinese companies. According to the website G l o b a l Ti m b e r, t h e s e concessions were taken over from other concession holders, a process known as “landlording” which is illegal in Guyana (unless officially authorised by the President). Under Guyanese law, forest concessions cannot be traded, but must be re-advertised by the Forestry Commission in an open auction. Guyana has a carbon-storing deal with the Norwegians valued at USD 250 million over five years. This deal requires Guyana to keep most of its forest trees standing so that they can provide the function of storing carbon. It is difficult to imagine the Norwegians honoring their part of the agreement, now that one million acres/hectares of forest concessions have been parceled out to some eleven Chinese companies. Over the last few days the

independent presses, SN and KN have done a well deserved expose’, (a tribute to fulfilling their social contract with the Guyanese population) - showing massive cutting and shipping of tens of thousands of logs. Bai Shan Lin which featured largely in these ‘exposes’ does not have a license to cut

and ship out logs from Guyana. What agency of Guyana Government has responsibility to bring this company to account? Some say the Guyana Forestry Commission, but this agency, according to several news articles does not even know the scale of the logging activities nor do they know how many

logs are shipped out. It is apparent that these companies – particularly Bai Shan Lin - are coddled at the highest levels of the government. Simply put, people are paid to look the other way while the patrimony of the Guyanese people is stolen in broad daylight. Mike Persaud

Freddie should conduct a poll on himself DEAR EDITOR, People have a right to a response to any attack in the media – a principle adopted by every democratic media. Discredited columnist Freddie Kissoon has had a history of viciously attacking people unprovoked and without any evidence and a response not being published. In his latest trademark assault (KN Aug 11), Freddie stated Vishnu Bisram is not a respected pollster because I refused to

pay him a consultancy fee. Yes I should have hired him as a consultant and paid him a fee to stop the attacks. I have consistently exposed Freddie’s writings for their shallowness, inaccuracies and lack of scholarship and academic rigor. And his latest salvo against me is replete with those characteristics. Contrary to what Freddie pens about my polls, everywhere I visited in Guyana people shower

adulations, admiration and respect for my surveys and writings. They found my surveys to be most credible and have found Freddie to be a discredited and despicable individual. In fact, publishers and editors of all the publications in Guyana have exposed Freddie for his tainted views, lack of credibility and his dishonesty. As intellects and politicians in Guyana note, he suffers from character

deficits. They note that almost all of Freddie’s arguments and claims have lacked evidence; that much is clear from his writings that are unsupported. Freddie has been rebuked by so many that it leaves one to ask has Freddie ever written anything that is accurate? He can’t even get the role of the CIOG correct as respected writer Abu Bakr and the head of CIOG pointed out. Whenever he (Continued on page 7)

The President needs to strengthen his working class credentials DEAR EDITOR, H.E President D. Ramotar is nearing three years into his presidency and seems to face in the immediate future the possibility of early elections. His background in the P.P.P is a tale of struggling on behalf of the working class. It is this element of his character that he needs to bring to the presidency at this crucial juncture. He has to reinforce and strengthen his working class credentials. Steps that I humbly suggest that can be taken to do so are as follows: 1. Stop the yearly public service wage increase

of five percent close to Christmas and allow the true spirit and intent of collective bargaining to take its course. The right to collective bargaining by the unions was a lifelong struggle of Cde Cheddi Jagan. Demand that the Unions and Ministries conclude their negations in a timely and fair manner so the workers can enjoy their wage package. 2. Reduce P.A.Y.E or income tax by 13% for this year with a continuous yearly reduction of 5% until it reaches zero. The Value Added Tax of 16% is a fair and justifiable tax but if done in tandem with income tax is

virtually a double taxation. The VAT is based on the principle that the more you spend and consume the more you should be taxed, therefore who consumes more pays more. 3.Reduce by 50% the tolls on vehicles used by the working class to cross the Berbice Bridge. Cars and mini buses tolls are too high and this places a burden on the movement of the working class. The bourgeoisie can take of themselves in the other category of vehicles. 4. Decentralize the issuance of documents such as birth certificates, passports, building certificates and

business licenses to the other two counties. It is cruel and unjust hardship for citizens of Berbice and Essequibo to have to come to Georgetown for these everyday documents. 5. Voluntarily put a cap on your Presidential benefits. This is the moral and right thing to do and if you do need guidance or a point of reference to set the limits, just reflect on the way Cde. Janet Jagan lived her life after demitting office in 1997as President. Remember, the working does not want to go to the barricades no more; they want to go to Disney World. Reggie Bhagwandin

SOME INDESCRIBABLE BESTIALITIES HAVE BEEN COMMITTED IN THE NAME OF ISLAM DEAR EDITOR, This is my final emanation on the disagreement with Abu Bakr on my theory that his lack of knowledge of what goes on in Guyana because of his distance result in faulty presentations. I will not reply to Mr. Bakr on this topic in the future because with graphic evidence in his responses, he demonstrates that he will stick with the methodology he uses despite its inherent flaws First, I resent Mr. Bakr’s putting down my exposure of Mr. Vishnu Bisram as “the mutual aversion of the two men.” The word is not aversion but exposure and that has been done over the years by others. To use an adjective Abu likes, “respected” people like Drs. Anand Daljeet and S e e l o c h a n B e h a r r y, Barrington Braithwaite, Malcolm Harripaul among others have exposed Mr. Bisram as a person who is not a professional pollster. By the way, two months ago,

Mr. Bisram replied to Mike Persaud of Richmiond Hill New York, in a letter in the Kaieteur News and told him that he, Bisram has several doctorates and Masters Do these people have an aversion to Bisram? I repeat – Mr. Bakr should consult a long editorial note of the Stabroek News attached to a published letter of Bisram dated Dec 10, 2010. Abu will find it insightful. I close this topic on Bisram by offering honest advice to Mr. Bakr – stay a million miles away from defending Vishnu Bisram. Given the integrity I know you possess, I strongly suggest you do so Secondly, Abu shouts “eureka” because he has found out that though I live in Guyana I could get faulty information. And how he knows this? Because Fazeel Ferouz denies that the CIOG was a founding member of the Indian Arrival Committee. I am wrong because Feroze told Bakr this. What if I insist that my information is factual? Well I

am insisting. But does it matter to Abu. He believes Ferouz and that is his right. As for me, I don’t believe Feroze Thirdly, Abu is bound to get into sociological hot water by asserting that there is nothing in the Muslim faith that allows for racism. I was tempted to use raging language against this incredibly naïve statement but out of respect for the character and knowledge of Abu Bakr I restrained myself. If there isn’t such then how come Muslims world wide have succumbed to the racist temptations of other mortals. Some of the 21st century’s indescribable bestialities have been committed in the name of Islam. Muslims, especially the Arab race, are racist like any

other ethnic community. Muslims are prone to whiteskin preference like any other disturbed colonial mind. In my experience, the Jewish people are far, far less racist than Arab Muslims. Which country Abu Bakr lived in during the seventies and eighties? That country is Guyana because Abu and I were friends at UG when we were students. Abu knows that the race problematic in Guyana during the fifties onwards right up to August 2014 was not underpinned by religious difference. Both Indian Hindus and Indian Muslims saw themselves as Indians.

Both Hindus and Muslim like African Guyanese are living in the race vortex in Guyana. And the Indian thing also takes in the Christian Indians too but I believe less so than the Muslims and Hindus I don’t care if Abu believes me but I have seen and heard the most racist miasma come out of the mouth of Guyanese Muslims just as it has from Hindus and African Guyanese for all my life that I have lived in Guyana. And it goes on at this very moment This is the problem with Mr. Bakr. His methodology and premises are religious

driven, religious based. In such a situation subjectivity kills off objective analysis. Finally, please Mr. Bakr spare me the utter naivety by saying that the CIOG isn’t racist because it accommodated you and a few other African Muslims. Please Mr. Bakr, don’t let me reply to that. I like and respect you too much to want to criticize you on that extremely faulty polemic. Surely Abu, that is such a theoretical non-starter that it is bound to cause people to raise their eyebrows not to mention the naivety in the belief Frederick Kissoon

FREDDIE SHOULD CONDUCT A POLL ON HIMSELF

From page 7 was challenged to present evidence of his claims, he backed down. No less a person than Albert Ramdin, Ralph Ramkarran, Annan Boodram, and Mark Benchchop, among others, have condemned Freddie for his dishonesty. As I found in my survey on Freddie, he lacks respect among most Guyanese – he should conduct a survey on himself to find out how unpopular he is and he would understand, as he complained, why so many have slapped him or poured miasmic materials on his head. As others have noted, Freddie craves attention and comments on everything asunder including on whether the sun rises from the east. He thrives on controversies,

misstatements, inaccuracies and erroneous information. Freddie’s interpretation of social theories is consistently incorrect as classmates in Toronto informed me; Freddie was frequently rebuked by Professors for his lack of understanding of basic theories. On polling, Guyanese made countless challenges to Freddie to conduct his own polls to contrast his findings and NACTA’s against actual election results. Freddie contends that I don’t conduct

polls. That being the case, can he explain why polls conducted by other organizations and individuals reveal findings different from mine and how come my findings are relatively accurate (measured against election results) and others are completely wrong. In 1992, Freddie said his analysis showed the PNC getting 10% of the votes and PPP 25% and the WPA winning the election. The actual result showed PPP 53% and PNC 43% and WPA less than 2%. In 2011, Freddie condemned the NACTA poll

showing PPP getting 48% of the votes and praised a Cadres poll showing PPP getting 34% of the votes. Actual voting results gave PPP 49%. By Freddie’s logic, Cadres was right and Nacta was wrong even though NACTA was spot on. Freddie’s real issue with the NACTA/Bisram/TRPI polls is on consultancy fee. In 1991, as Dev, Ramharack, Ramracha, and others would attest, Freddie approached us as to be as paid as a consultant for our polls. We rejected him outright because

he is no pollster and he did not shine in his studies or demonstrated competence in field research. In fact, he is not even qualified as an academic and had to be terminated by UG administration. Freddie is challenged to analyze all of NACTA’s polls against actual results and do the same for polls conducted by other entities; he will find

that NACTA’s polls are most accurate. The Cadres and Morris polls showed PPP getting about 34% and the “Clive Thomas” poll showed the PPP and APNU getting about the same support when in fact PPP got about 8% more than APNU. Clearly, the NACTA poll comes closest to actual election results. Vishnu Bisram

Carpenter shot dead Warrant issued for former Haiti during attempted robbery president Aristide accused of corruption By Romila Boodram Police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old carpenter who was allegedly shot during an attempted robbery in Second Field, Kaneville, East Bank of Demerara (EBD) around 09:00 hrs yesterday. Dead is Mark Drexel London, of Fourth Street, Grove Squatting Area. Kaneville is a small community located at the back of Grove, between Craig and Diamond New Scheme, EBD. According to information received, London had gone into the community which is reportedly called “the house for criminals” to meet with a friend who recently came out from the interior. Reports are that the man and his friend were walking through a street in Second Field, when another man approached the duo and demanded that London hand over his gold chain and cellular phone. A police source close to the investigation said that just as London refused to hand over his valuables, the suspect hurriedly reached into his pocket. But before the bandit could have pulled out the weapon he was carrying, London and his friend ran in different directions. The suspect reportedly fired four shots behind London, one of which struck

Dead: Mark London and killed him instantly. At the scene yesterday, a man who was working at a nearby construction site recalled, he saw three individuals running through an empty lot next to the building he was working on. “I see three young men running through the grass and they were looking back and running. They run over to Craig. I know something was fishy so I was looking at them, because they look very suspicious,” the man said. Persons living in the area could not recall hearing any gunshots or hearing anyone shout. They claimed that they only knew what transpired when they saw London’s lifeless body on the roadway with his face in a pothole. According to Nicola London, the dead man’s sister, she left her brother at his residence (located in front of hers in the same yard) yesterday and went to her home to take a quick nap. She said she was informed about an hour later of her brother’s demise.“Right away, I walk to Kaneville and I see him lying there on the road with a set of people standing around him,” London lamented. She said, that despite the fact that someone had threatened to shoot him last Saturday, she is convinced

that her sibling was killed during an attempted robbery. “He work with a man in Diamond New Scheme and the man didn’t want to pay him, so he went last Saturday to collect his money and the man tell him that he would shoot him. He (her brother) went to Diamond Police Station and make a report,” Nicola London said. She explained that when her brother was finding it hard to get employment in the city, he would usually go and work as a gold miner with his friend in the interior. “He and this boy were very good. They grew up together, went to school together and even worked together. When he hear he (his friend) come out, he went to see him,” Nicola London related. Another sibling, Collis London, who resides in Kaneville, said that he was at home when he received the news that his brother had been shot. He said that he did not know the extent of the injury until he went to the scene and saw the body. “Earlier I passed him and his friend walking at Second Bridge and I went in Grove and then I went home back. It’s then when I got the news.” This recent incident has left residents and businessmen scared for their lives. ‘ “Every day you get up to open your shop you have to pray for your life, because you don’t know what can happen in this place. I done get rob about four times, but I can’t close my business, because this is how I survive,” a villager said. There are now calls for a police outpost in the area. Commander for ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken, indicated yesterday that his team has some leads they are working on to find London’s killer.

- Supporters clash with U.N. peacekeepers P O RT- A U - P R I N C E , Haiti - CMC – An investigating judge has issued an arrest warrant for former president Jean Bertrand Aristide after he failed to comply with a summons to appear at the magistrate’s office. Aristide was due to appear before Judge Lamarre Belizaire to answer charges relating to acts of corruption, money l a u n d e r i n g , misappropriation of public funds, criminal conspiracy, among other accusations. Aristide and several of his former colleagues have been accused of embezzling hundreds of millions of dollars from the State through his organisation, Aristide for Democracy Foundation and other organisations. “The judge was at his o ff i c e w a i t i n g f o r M r. A r i s t i d e t o a p p e a r, h e never saw him, while other allies of the former President have been commenting about the content of the warrant on the air, which means, they are in possession of the document,” an official at the Judicial palace told the Port au Prince based Haitian Caribbean News Network (HCNN). Aristide, a former Roman Catholic priest, and his colleagues including Mirlande Liberus, Yvon Neptune, Jean Nesty Lucien and Gustave Faubert, have also been banned from leaving the country. Judge Belizaire has refused to comment on the case for “legal and ethical reasons”. According to A s s o c i a t e d P r e s s ( AP), Supporters of Aristide clashed with U.N.

Jean Bertrand Aristide peacekeepers yesterday as the popular former leader faced possible arrest for not providing court-ordered testimony in a criminal investigation. About 150 Haitians had erected barricades of stones and burning tires outside Aristide’s home in Port-auPrince to prevent any attempt to arrest him, keeping traffic at bay along the busy street largely without incident much of the day. But some demonstrators pelted an SUV carrying U.N. personnel with stones, forcing the occupants to flee into a nearby home. They were subsequently rescued by peacekeeping troops, who then cleared the protesters and their barricades using tear gas and armored vehicles. The source of the tension was a summons issued by investigating magistrate Lamarre Belizaire for testimony from Aristide, whose ouster in February 2004 amid a violent rebellion triggered the deployment of a U.N. peacekeeping force that has been in the country ever since. Belizaire issued the summons ordering Aristide to appear in court Wednesday. A copy of the order obtained by The Associated Press says the

case involves allegations of laundering drug money but does not provide details. Aristide lawyer Mario Joseph said the former president never received the summons at his home, where he has largely lived a secluded life behind high walls since he returned in March 2011 from exile in South Africa. The lawyer showed up at the court at the appointed time after hearing media reports about the hearing and brought a letter explaining why the summons should not be considered properly served. The judge himself did not show up at the hearing and he could not be reached for comment. Under Haitian law, the judge could issue an order requiring police t o t a ke Aristide into custody for questioning, but it was not known whether he did so. Joseph said he had been unable to reach the judge to clarify the situation. The lawyer said the summons was not properly served on the former president and thus he could not be legally taken into custody as a result. Aristide remains a polarizing figure in Haiti. He is popular among a large segment of the population and his supporters allege that the criminal investigation is part of a campaign to keep the party that he founded, Fanmi Lavalas, from trying to build support ahead of legislative elections expected by the end of the year. “The judge is a political judge,” Joseph said. “He is an opponent of Fanmi Lavalas. All this is an act to block Fanmi Lavalas from taking part in the election.”

What is mine belongs to me! Yesterday a man was senselessly killed by bandits who were after his gold chain. They obviously attached a lot more value to his gold chain than they did to his life, because in the process of robbing him, they shot and killed him. Imagine that! Imagine that this is what human life has come to. This is the length to which those bent on a life of crime are prepared to go. The security crisis in Guyana is a moral crisis, a crisis of moral values. It is a crisis that therefore cannot be left to the security services. It has to involve the family, the churches and communities. The issue of moral values has to be addressed. Old people say never to let other people’s property “fatten your eye”. But that warning has more often than not been ignored. There are individuals who like to “eyeball” what others have in the hope of coveting it. And when you try to take something from somebody that does not belong to you, you are flirting with danger. Earlier this year, a fifteenyear-old lad, who should have been eyeballing his school books was shot dead after he

and his associates entered the property of a businessman and robbed the man and his family at gunpoint. While his two friends reportedly went downstairs with the businessman to relieve him of the earnings of his shop, the now dead teen, armed with a scissors, stayed upstairs and proceeded to tie up the man’s wife. Why do you think he stayed upstairs and was tying up the man’s wife? He had his own plans, except that he did not cater for the woman’s husband returning upstairs – after his friends had fled – and confronting him. He believed that with the scissors as a weapon, he was invincible. He is now dead and as sad as that may be, the lesson he did not live to learn is that what belongs to someone else is not yours. Do not allow other persons’ possessions to “fatten your eye”. There are a lot of problems in this country. And there can be improved governance. But the biggest problem is this tendency of dishonest individuals to covet what does not belong to them. Stealing is a major problem in Guyana. It is not just a case of persons entering your home and stealing from

you, or of being mobbed and dispossessed of your valuables. There is a serious problem of both blue collar and while collar crime experienced by persons who own businesses. Do you know the amount of losses suffered, both knowing and unknowing, by the owners each day? Do you know the stealing that employees commit on employers in this country? It is hard enough to run a business amidst unfair competition, much less to contend with the pilfering by employees. But the cruelest cut of all is when someone invades your private space to rob you of your possessions and to take advantage of your family. An individual may work hard to earn his keep. It may have taken that person many years of savings and borrowing from the banks to acquire some material possessions, only to have some other person decide that they have a right to take it away. Those who steal from others do not understand or appreciate the sacrifices that those persons have to make to acquire things. They do not know your indebtedness to the bank, and if you cannot payback what you owe you can lose everything. Yet they

want to come and take what you have away from you, because they feel that you have too much while they have nothing - or they are greedy and want more than they have; or they are just wicked and do not want to make the sacrifices to acquire what they want. That is nonsense. It does not matter how much I have. What I have is mine. No one has any right to come and deprive me of what I have earned. There are hard-working people in this country, and they have every right to decide what to do with their money. If they want to build a nice house and surround themselves with expensive things, well that is their right. If that is what makes them happy, then so be it! There are others who do not work so hard, but who have it good, because they may be lucky or belong to some rich family or have persons overseas who are helping them out. That is their luck. Good for them also! And then there are some individuals who spend all day looking at what you have and deciding that they want some of it, or they feel that because you appear to have more than

you need, you have a right to share it with them. There are some persons in this country, however, who feel that they have a right to tell you how to spend your money. They know you may have a lot more extra cash, and they decide that it is their right to ask you to pass off some of what you have to them. And when you say no, they hurl insults at you. Well sorry, folks. My money is my money. Whether I have too much is my business. I have to decide what I want to do with it. I have a problem with those who feel that because I have more

money than I need, I should give some to them. Sorry, that is not my philosophy. If I want to give you something, I will give you something. If I don’t feel the need to give you something, then that is my choice. Do not allow what I have to “fatten” your eyes. Do not try to tell me how to spend my money! What is mine belongs to me!

== THE FREDDIE KISSOON COLUMN ==

The theory of dictatorship’s irrationality More times than I can count, I have posited in these columns that dictatorships cannot pull back, become humane and embrace a democratic culture, because inherent in dictatorship is the instinct and process of irrationality. This applies to tyrannies wherever they are, be it Russia, Burma, Guyana etc. In these columns, countless times I have adumbrated the polemical point that the PPP cannot come out of its authoritarian cocoon, because its irrationality prevents it from seeing reality and becoming aware of the reality on the

ground. This argument also contains the theory that the PPP will waste every opportunity of goodwill shown to it; will waste any political capital it gains from a situation of a generous gesture, because it will sooner than later resort to its usual arrogant, cruel, oligarchic self. The PPP can throw a party tomorrow, kiss all the guests, give them a million dollars each and a Samsung Galaxy S5, then the next day resentment among the recipients will be generated, because the PPP is going to do some horrible, nightmarish deed, and the Guyanese

Pit cave-in kills two miners Two gold miners were killed when the mining pit they were working in at Marudi South Rupununi caved-in on Sunday last. Reports reaching this newspaper stated that one of the miners, Clifton Rodrigues of Aishalton, was trapped beneath tons of gravel after the walls of the pit that he and two other colleagues were working in collapsed. Another miner who was pulled from the pit before Rodrigues’ body was found succumbed to his injuries. The incident occurred at

the lucrative Mazwa Mountain. Sources in Rupununi told this newspaper that three miners were trapped about 300 feet below the surface. However, unconfirmed reports stated that one of them miraculously managed to escape to safety. The incident is yet another case of miners being killed in gold mining pits, apparently because of poor mining practices. This is despite the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission repeatedly warning against unsafe procedures.

nation will be shocked and sickened to the core. One factor explains this – irrationality. The PPP cannot use the process of momentum that comes after a generous deed to engender popularity. Irrationality gets in the way. This is the pattern with tyrannical systems. After you kiss the population, give each citizen a television set, the nation wakes up the next morning and hears that you beat your wife. They keep the television box, but they think you are a horrible person - look what you did to your wife. This is the story of the PPP. Take Rohee. Given a golden moment by the rising anger against the strange birth certificate requirement for a passport to rethink the abominable situation, Rohee was adamant that the requirement must be adhered to. Then another splendid opportunity was offered in that the court struck down the edict that the birth certificate must not be older than six months for passport application. Rohee then ordered that the document must now be not older than two years. There was another challenge in the court. The original position has since been reverted to whereby a certificate, despite its age, is valid for a passport application. Rohee could not back down, because this is the way authoritarian systems operate. In authoritarian culture, pomposity, hauteur and hubris destroy logical thinking. As night follows day, the birth certificate debacle in the form of another situation will come, the latest

one is with Charles Ramson. We see here how irrational tyrannical power is. What you are about to read does not happen in countries with democratic traditions. Not even semidemocratic countries. What you are about read actually took place. Here is a perfect example of the irrationality inherent in naked power. This is the nature of the PPP The Guyana chapter of Transparency Institute (TIGI) wrote Charles Ramson, the Commissioner of Information, for a copy of the documentary agreement between the Government and the Canadian firm that installed the Integrated Financial Management and Accounting System which is used by the Ministry of Finance, and which has generated a lot of controversy because two of the modules in the system have not been implemented, and it is those two modules that allow for more transparency and accountability. Mr. Ramson replied and informed TIGI that its request cannot be accepted, because in the 2014 budget, the allocation for his office was removed, so its work is halted. In his response Mr. Ramson went out of the customary protocol of reply and wrote; “In the words of the Mighty Sparrow, no money, no love.” We come now to the horror story of power in Guyana. TIGI informed Mr. Ramson that the Government restored the allocation to his office, and his office has been in receipt of $8.859M which the 2014 budget catered for.

To make its case water-tight, TIGI brought to Mr. Ramson’s attention, Financial Paper 1/ 2014 – Statement of Excess which the Finance Minister tabled in Parliament on 19 June , 2014, which documents the money restored to items cut from the 2014 budget, including the allocation for Ramson’s office. TIGI has stopped short of accusing Mr. Ramson of lying, using words like, “misleading,” and “distasteful,” and in polite language has urged the Government to reconsider the tenancy of Mr. Ramson. In other words, remove him.

Frederick Kissoon TIGI is going to be ignored like the countless other situations where PPP leaders have abused power so badly that it is perhaps an insult for us to hear at the Rodney Commission of how bad the PNC Government was.

Everybody jailing dem corrupt leaders Countries all over de world does lock up dem leaders who corrupt. Turks and Caicos had a corrupt prime minister and when he get a wink that de people gun jail he, de man run to Brazil. That didn’t save him. De Brazilians hear wha he did and promptly handcuff de SOB and ship he back. By thiefing and cutting deals, he deprive de poor people of their basic needs—a decent meal, schools, water, churches, place fuh dem soo soo and even public place fuh dem doo doo. Now Haiti issue an arrest warrant fuh dem farma President Aristide. Dem want he fuh corruption, too. He been deh before and de people run he out. De Americans put he back and wha he didn’t get fuh tek de first time he double up de second time and run way. Dem boys hoping and praying that de time gun come when Guyana gun issue an international arrest warrant fuh we farma president and some members of he Cabinet fuh de same thing. Dem got nuff to answer for, things that to this day people still asking question and can’t get no answer. Brazzy can’t be lef out. He is de contact and contract man, he like write and formulate nuff clause wha he self can’t explain. When de handcuff gun go pun he hand dem boys want to see how he gun write. He might got to sit down pun de pen. And dem boys ain’t talking ‘bout goat pen and fowl pen. De pen might got some strong men inside. Jagdeo, Rob de Earth and Brazzy was de key players in bringing Bai Shaan fuh rape all of we in Guyana; dem same three create de deal fuh de Indian logging company. He, Brazzy, join wid Jagdeo fuh sell out de profitable shares in de telephone company when de government and de people was getting billions of dollars every year. Dem got nuff of dem who tek kickback suh till dem mek de people who get de deal believe that dem equal to dem. That’s why de Bai Shaan man tell de people at Linden when de people stop de truck, “Y’all betta move out de way. One telephone call would got y’all running out of Linden.” Is only money or marriage does mek people get that kinda of power overnight. Well dem boys seh that phone call was not to Habeeb Khan, de comedian, or to Constable Jacobs. Jagdeo was in office and Rob de Earth was de man who had control over forestry and mining. De man had to be calling one of dem. Dem give Bai Shaan de land and de power do anything. De company raping and bleeding de nation, shipping out de resources. Dem give up de same thing in Mexico and some other Latin American countries and settle in Guyana, because de sweetheart deal really sweeter than de greenheart seal. In any country dem woulda have to explain dem assets. In Guyana is de reverse, you don’t have to explain you assets, you does boast about it wid friends and show off wid fancy swimming pool and things like that. Some of dem got gold cupboard and US$500,000 chandelier in dem house. Is only time though. De arrest warrant gun come. Already some of dem nervous. And if dem think that dem gun run away like Aristide. Dem lie. Talk half and get ready fuh hold on pun dem foot suh dem can’t run.

C’tyne man brutally murdered Quick action by ranks in Berbice, led to the capture of a 20-year-old murder suspect - who it is believed brutally killed his stepfather - whilst he was still in the process of cleaning up after the act, which occurred around 20:30 hrs on Wednesday. The gruesome incident was described as a crime of hate as the two men reportedly had an ongoing feud. The dead man was identified as Deochand Singh, 48, of Freeyard, Port Mourant, Berbice, a father of two, who lived with the suspect’s mother. The stepson is a labourer who resided at the same address. The woman it is understood has three older children - two boys and a girl. Kaieteur News was told that the family was living in Venezuela and Deochand Singh had fathered a child with his step daughter some five years ago when the girl was 15 years old. He then escaped to Guyana. Singh, who was a hire car

- Stepson in custody

Dead: Deochand Singh driver, was also well known to the authorities as he was said to be a con artist and was constantly in trouble. It was also revealed that the man and his stepsons, especially the suspect, were not on good terms because of the ‘fraud scheme’. His eldest stepson was recently charged with fraud, a product of Singh’s clandestine operation. The stepsons were also said to be bitter that the man had impregnated their sister. Kaieteur News also learnt that Singh and the suspect

never got along. It is understood that the suspect never wanted to participate in his stepfather’s ‘con man scheme’, because he was being constantly harassed by persons and the police. On Wednesday, Deochand Singh went to a wake house and the stepson decided to ambush him upon his return. The suspect reportedly collected a cutlass, knife and a piece of wood and waited by the gate for Singh. Singh reportedly returned home intoxicated and was about to enter the gate when the suspect emerged from his hiding place and floored him with a lash to the head with the piece of wood. The assailant then pounced upon Singh and stabbed him repeatedly. He then took the cutlass and severed the man’s neck. It is understood that he (Continued on page 32)

Alternative bypass from Diamond to Ogle in pipeline - Govt. looks for Indian financing

The recently opened access road to La Parfaite Harmonie, W.B.D The Ministry of Housing and Water has commenced work on a massive outlay of road infrastructure across the country. One of the main projects that the Ministry is at present focusing on for the immediate future, is a new alternative bypass stretching from Diamond, East Bank Demerara to Ogle on the East Coast. This project is currently being designed, according to Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali. According to a Government statement appearing last evening, a feasibility study has been completed for this project and has since been submitted to the Indian Government for financing. As the Ministry awaits the decision from India, it has been completing all surveys and designs for the

project. The Minister explained that the ministry has been putting itself in a state of readiness to go out to tender. “Notwithstanding this, the Ministry is working on and has completed a number of road networks leading to Diamond, and as well, constructing a number of primary connectors (roadways), that will establish a link between the existing East Bank Demerara road and the new alternative highway/ bypass that is to be constructed.” Thus far, primary connectors have been completed in the following areas: Eccles, Providence, Herstelling, Perseverance, Mocha and Covent Garden, according to Minister Ali, while work is at present ongoing at Little Diamond.

In addition, there is also the construction of secondary connecting roads, and Ali says that at least five of these stretching from Eccles to Herstelling have been completed and are being used. “The Ministry in support of urbanisation of the new housing developments, with the support from community and regional based projects, has been putting in place infrastructure such as schools and multipurpose centres.” The Ministry said it has executed and completed an important road in Region Three that offers an alternative access to a number of new and developing schemes, including the Parfaite Harmonie, Schoonord and the RectDoor-Zee Housing Schemes.

Abduction of airport-bound couple…

Police constable under close arrest A police rank from a highway base was under close arrest yesterday as investigations continued into the abduction of a Timehri-bound couple and a taxi driver two Saturdays ago. Police sources confirmed that the constable is being held at the Tactical Services Unit Base, Eve Leary. However, Kaieteur News was unable to confirm reports that another rank is also under close arrest in connection with the same incident. It is also unclear whether two civilians that police had detained were still

in custody. Latchmin and Lekraj Gopaul, along with taxi driver Parmamand Teekaram, were tied up and robbed of millions at Yarrowkabra, on the Soesdyke/Linden highway, after being abducted by two armed men who were wearing police uniforms. Teekaram, the driver, alleged that one of the men had a handgun and was dressed in blue police attire, while the other carried a ‘long gun’ and wore the clothing of a ‘black clothes’ rank. He also said that the men had contemplated killing him and

the Gopauls. Teekaram was carrying the Gopauls to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport when the men signaled for him to stop in the vicinity of Land of Canaan on the East Bank. The taxi driver alleged that the ‘policemen’ said that they had received a report that a car similar to his was involved in a hit-and-run accident near Garden of Eden. Police have since set up round-the-clock patrols to protect travellers heading to and from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

Huge piles of debris await removal Manufacturers want full from cleaned-up community disclosure on Bai Shan Lin

The piles of debris at Independence Boulevard Under the $500M Georgetown Clean-up Project which was initiated by the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, the recent clean-up exercise in Albouystown, is proving in some cases to be exercises in futility, as huge piles of debris from the community’s trenches and canals were dumped on the reserve at Independence Boulevard, and have remained there for the last four days. Expecting a decrease in pollution through the cleanup exercise which started on Tuesday, residents of Independence Boulevard expressed concern with the potential contamination that

the unsightly mounds of waste matter may have brought to their environs. Most in the area are displeased with the eye sore the debris brings to the community, and the foul stench it emits. According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Olive Gopaul, communities in Georgetown awaiting their clean-up, can also expect this temporary delay in the disposal of debris from their drains, trenches and canals, after it has been removed. She explained that it would be difficult to dispose of the debris from a community’s drain, canal or

trench, on the same day it was dug out, since the debris would be water-logged and in need of time to dry. Gopaul noted that trucks used to transport the debris, would not be ordered to remove it as soon as it is dug out, as stagnant water would leak from their carriages and pollute the roadways on their route. Due to this fact, the Ministry will allow the contractors they hired to dump the waste on a chosen plot of land within the community. Gopaul said that communities will be called upon to “bear up” at least three days, for trucks to dispose of the debris.

The Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association (GMSA) is expected to soon request that Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment Robert Persaud disclose all information regarding the local operations of Bai Shan Lin. This follows an emergency meeting the Association called Monday in the face of a growing controversy regarding the Chinese company’s operations. A letter which outlined the association’s concerns was dispatched to members for their comments before it is sent to Persaud. The letter is signed by GMSA President Clinton Williams. Kaieteur News was told that during the emergency meeting members mandated Williams to acquire documentation about several aspects of the operations of Bai Shan Lin. This newspaper understands that members are trying to get their hands on copies of licences and permits to engage in forestry operations in Guyana, investment agreements, Tax Holiday approvals, Duty-free concessions, and agreements which allow the company to export log. The manufacturers also want to see documents that the company and the authorities have agreed to for

the employment of Guyanese personnel. According to reports, members have said that they are aware that Bai Shan Lin has entered into private agreements with existing local and foreign forest products concessionaires. The letter stated that while the ministry may not be privy to the agreements, they would go a long way, together with the documents they requested, towards helping the Association determine the way forward for the country’s forest/wood products manufacturers. In this regard, members said that they would appreciate receiving the relevant particulars of all agreements entered into by the Company or any of its related companies with the holders of licences or permits from the Minister. It was noted that access to these documents will allow the GMSA to determine that the agreements are iron-clad and are not in violation of any of the nation’s laws and regulations, including environmental protection Secondly, it would show that they do not contain loop holes through which the investor could dodge their business and social responsibilities to the people of Guyana. Moreover the release of documents would show that the agreements do

Minister of Natural Resources, Robert Persaud not provide the wherewithal for the investor to act in a manner that goes against the tenets of Guyana’s responsibilities to the international REDD+ programme or our Low Carbon Development Strategy, the letter states. The GMSA, in crafting the letter to Persaud, said it wants to ensure that the country’s reputation as a destination of Foreign Direct Investment is not harmed by any unjustified criticisms of any specific investment or group of investments. The GMSA will be meeting again on Monday to further consider the matter and the Association hopes it can have the requested documents by then.

Sugar worker killed in bike-van collision The deadly roadways of Guyana have struck again with the death of a motorcyclist at West Coast Berbice (WCB). Dead is Suraj Chandradai, called ‘Gala’ 35, of Lot 815 School Street, Bath Settlement, WCB. This was as a result of a collision between the motorcycle Chandradai was riding (CG 140) and a van (GGG 3480) around 15:10 hrs on Wednesday. The man was an employee at the Blairmont Sugar Estate. Speaking to the media, the man’s sister, Chandra Singh, stated that her brother lived with their mother Chandradai at Bath Settlement. She said

Suraj Chandradai called ‘Gala’ that her brother was unmarried and had no

children. The woman said that he did not work on Wednesday and was on his way to play Dominoes a short distance away when the accident occurred. The driver of the van, who hails from Belvedere, Corentyne, told investigators that he was heading east, when the motorcyclist suddenly appeared from a cross street and collided with his vehicle. According to information Chandradai was picked up and rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he died. The driver is in police custody assisting with the investigations.

“From now on you will never pass Tiger Bay and see me involved in a fight or an argument because I am a better person now and I was taught how to control my anger.” This was the emphatic assertion of 12-year-old Daniel Smith, a Tiger Bay resident at the completion of a four-day camp last Saturday, WANTED Female waitress (24-30years) Handyman, Barman, apply @ Fortune House Restaurant, 98 Sheriff Street 3-5pm PROPERTY FOR SALE For sale by owner: 1 wooden & concrete 2 strorey building @ 3rd Street, East Meten – Meer- Zorg, Vacant propertycontact Mr. Basant : 2773743; 626-0150 Agriculture Road, 2 Storey 3 bedrooms property - $16.5M – Tel: 612-2522

which was organized by the Police ‘A’ Division. Smith said that the camp has taught him a lot about life and the “importance of loving the people around you, being kind and respectful, and willing to teach those around you.” “I learnt a lot about public speaking and domestic violence. If you see your parents fighting then you should go and inform a relative or the nearest police station,” the lad reflected. The camp commenced two Tuesdays ago at Hauraruni on the Linden/ Soesdyke Highway with a total from 57 children from Tiger Bay and Albouystown in Georgetown. The children who participated were between the ages of 12 and 17. They were exposed to craftwork, educational talks, road safety awareness, public speaking,

religious education and games. The exercise was the brainchild of ‘A’ Division Commander Clifton Hicken who is said to have a love for children. “If he is in a bad mood and you know that you’re about to be sent home, then just bring a child in front of him and everything is back to normal… you might even get promoted,” one of his ranks joked. According to the camp supervisor, Desiree Fowler, the camp ended on a good note and was a success. She said that the participants were excellent and “had a blast”. The young males played a game of football with men from the Hauraruni Football team and were able to equal their rivals in terms of the score at the end of the game. Pastor Eworth Williams who counseled the children said that he was surprised

when he saw some of the paintings the children did. “We have some really skillful young people here… I put ‘E’ for my name, ‘A’ for my daughter and ‘K’ for my wife’s name on my shirt, but when I thought that I would have been the best, I saw some outstanding paintings,” the pastor said. He added, “I saw one man, his partner’s name is Candace and he painted ‘Candy Crush’ on his shirt.” Commander Hicken congratulated the children for the cooperation and hard work they had exhibited, despite coming from different backgrounds. He added that, “I trust that when you go back to your (respective) communities, you would aid

the process by telling your peers, ‘no, don’t do that, that is wrong.’ According to the Commander, sometime this week, he will be meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Human Services and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, to see if a building in Tiger Bay can be rehabilitated so that the children can continue their craftwork while Albouystown is being developed at the same time. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Balram Persaud, encouraged the children to continue the good work and always respect each other. The camp ended with the quote, “When you are down to nothing, God is always up to something.”

C’tyne man brutally... (From page 12) and other individual then threw the body in a pond in the yard and was heard exclaiming “let them fish eat he out.” The commotion caused neighbours to summon the police who responded promptly. The lawmen were told that the perpetrators were in the process of burying a body. They arrived in time and caught the man in the act. The cutlass was also recovered.

The police are looking for the other weapons and several individuals who might be able to provide some more useful information. They are of the belief that more than one person may have committed the crime, since Deochand Singh was a burly individual and the suspect was small in stature and may not have been able to commit the act by himself. Investigations are continuing.

Emergency food drops eyed for quarantined Ebola region of West Africa WA S H I N G T O N (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - International agencies are looking into emergency food drops and truck convoys to reach extremely hungry people in Liberia and Sierra Leone, who are cordoned off from the outside world to halt the spread of the Ebola virus, a top World Bank official said yesterday. Hunger is spreading fast as farmers die leaving crops rotting in fields. Truckers scared of the highly infectious disease halt deliveries. Shops close and major airlines have shut down routes, isolating large swathes of the countries. The Mano River region, home to about 1 million people and an epicentre for the deadly disease, is a major concern and the issue was raised on Wednesday with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, said Tim Evans, senior director for health at the World Bank. “There has been a lot of inflation in food prices and a lot of difficulty in getting food

to the quarantined population,” he said in an interview. The World Bank, along with the UN and the World Health Organisation, is urgently assessing how to make emergency food deliveries, or they face the danger of a deepening health crisis from malnutrition and the spread of other diseases, he said. “This is emerging as an important part of the immediate response,” Evans said. “We are looking at exactly what the needs are and where, and then looking at how we contribute to making sure that food gets to the right places.” Meanwhile, the United Nation’s World Food Programme said it has declared Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone - the three countries reeling from over 1,000 deaths from Ebola - a Level Three food emergency, its highest threat. It is urgently mobilising teams to get food into the area and prevent widespread hunger and deaths. “We are pulling out all the

Maliki finally steps aside as Iraq Sunni leader sees U.S. help (Reuters) - Nuri al-Maliki finally bowed to pressure with Iraq and beyond yesterday and stepped down as prime minister, paving the way for a new coalition that world and regional powers hope can quash a Sunni Islamist insurgency that threatens Baghdad. Maliki ended eight years of often divisive, sectarian rule and endorsed fellow Shi’ite Haider al-Abadi in a televised speech during which he stood next to his successor. Earlier, a leading figure in the Sunni minority told Reuters he had been promised U.S. help to fight the Islamic State militants. Though there was no immediate comment from Washington the remarks by the governor of the Sunni heartland province of Anbar, such a move could revive cooperation between Sunni tribes, the Shi’ite-led authorities and U.S. forces that was credited with thwarting al Qaeda in Iraq several years ago. Ahmed Khalaf al-Dulaimi told Reuters his request, made in meetings with U.S. diplomats and a senior military officer, included air support against the militants who have a tight grip on large

parts of his desert province and northwestern Iraq. Dulaimi said the Americans had promised to help. There was no immediate confirmation from U.S. officials on a day when President Barack Obama said troops planning an evacuation of refugees further north were standing down as U.S. air strikes and supply drops had broken the “siege of Mount Sinjar”. Governor Dulaimi said in a telephone interview: “Our first goal is the air support. Their technology capability will offer a lot of intelligence information and monitoring of the desert and many things which we are in need of. “No date was decided but it will be very soon and there will be a presence for the Americans in the western area.” After its capture of the northern metropolis of Mosul in June, a swift push by the Islamic State to the borders of the autonomous ethnic Kurdish region alarmed Baghdad and last week drew the first U.S. air strikes on Iraq since the withdrawal of American troops in 2011. U.S. involvement in Anbar is a far more sensitive matter. The region, sparsely populated and forming much

of Iraq’s border with Syria, was deeply anti-American during the U.S. occupation. Tribal leaders and local people saw the replacement of fellow Sunni Saddam Hussein by a U.S.-backed leadership dominated by Iraq’s Shi’ite Muslim majority as a threat and took up arms. Al Qaeda fighters flooded in to join them. The United States mounted its biggest offensive of the occupation against a variety of Islamist militants in the Anbar city of Falluja, just west of Baghdad. Its soldiers experienced some of their fiercest combat since the Vietnam War. Eventually, the U.S. military was able to persuade some of its most diehard Sunni opponents to turn against al Qaeda. The strategy brought a period of calm. But Maliki went on to alienate many Sunnis. His eventual departure followed several days in which he insisted on his right to form a new government based on the results of a parliamentary election in late April. Maliki resisted months of pressure to step down from Sunnis, Kurds, some fellow Shi’ites, Shi’ite regional power Iran and the United States.

Sudan, Cameroon, Central African Republic and now the Ebola hit-countries. “It is a dramatic, profound situation,” he said.

For West Africa, the stability of the whole region is at stake if hunger and disease spread uncontrolled, said Evans.

“It certainly is a threat to national security,” he said, stressing that a comprehensive response is needed. But for Nigeria, the World Bank director expressed optimism it has acted promptly to contain spread of the Ebola by reaching those who came into contact with its first victim there. “It suggests at this point that it is relatively contained,” he said. Longer term, the Ebola outbreak has exposed the danger from chronic underfunding of national healthcare systems and the need to invest in regional laboratories to test and manage infectious diseases, he said. Most countries fell far short of a 2000 pledge, known as the Abuja Declaration, to devote 15 percent of their budgets to healthcare. The World Bank “absolutely” expects more lending for health in the years ahead, Evans said.

Under artillery fire, Ukraine rebels switch their leaders (Reuters) - Two of the most senior rebels battling government troops in eastern Ukraine quit yesterday, deepening the disarray in a pro-Moscow separatist movement that is being pushed back by an Ukrainian military offensive. The resignations came on the same day that artillery shells landed for the first time since the conflict began in the centre of the eastern city of Donetsk, the separatists’ main stronghold. The reverses suffered by the rebels could force a tactical rethink by Russian President Vladimir Putin. While he has denied directly helping the rebels, his strategy of keeping Ukraine from integrating with the West has benefited from having a part of the country under the control of proMoscow separatists. The most prominent of the separatists to resign yesterday was a man who goes by the name of Colonel Igor Strelkov and who was defence minister in the selfproclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic. Nicknamed “Strelok” -

what prospects for success the rebels now had after the series of resignations. The head of the selfproclaimed rebel government in Luhansk region, which neighbours Donetsk, also announced he was stepping down. Valery Bolotov said he was injured and could not carry on his duties. A week ago, Alexander Borodai, prime minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic, also quit. The sense of government forces tightening the noose around the rebels was clear at the separatist headquarters in the centre of Donetsk

Kiev alleged he was a Russian intelligence officer, which Moscow denied. Vladimir Antyufeyev, deputy prime minister of the

separatist entity in Donetsk region, told Reuters that Strelkov was moving to another, less senior post. He said the new defence minister would be Vladimir Kononov, a native of Donetsk. “The enemy will be broken. Victory will be ours,” Antyufeyev said when asked

yesterday. A Reuters reporter was interviewing Andrei Purgin, deputy to the new separatist prime minister, when artillery shells landed nearby. One man shouted: “Go to the cellar!” and those in the building headed for the stairs, some at a run. The crisis in Ukraine has dragged ties between Russia and the West to their lowest ebb since the Cold War, and killed hundreds of people, including the passengers and crew of a Malaysian airliner downed over the battle zone last month. The European Union and

the United States accuse Russia of arming the separatists and they have imposed sanctions targeting sectors of the Russian economy, including energy, technology and finance. Russia says the West is abetting the Ukrainian government in persecuting millions of Russian-speakers who live in eastern Ukraine. It reacted to the sanctions by restricting imports of food products from Western countries. Putin yesterday travelled to Crimea, the Ukrainian region his forces annexed earlier this year.

Pakistan’s Quetta airport hit by deadly bomb and gun attack (Reuters) - A man was killed and two policemen were wounded in an attack on Quetta airport in western Pakistan last night, officials said, but the attackers did not breach the perimeter. The dead man was not immediately identified. He was killed near an airforce base that shares a runway

with the civilian airport. Local residents heard at least eight blasts and gunfire that continued for around half an hour. Helicopters buzzed overhead, they said. Sarfraz Bugti, home minister in the provincial government of Baluchistan, confirmed an attack had taken place.

He said rockets had been fired but did not land in the base. Four bombs were defused near another air force base in Quetta called Khalid, he said. He did not say who had carried out the attack. Pakistan has suffered several recent attacks on its airports.

PM awaiting debate with “great expectations” Trinidad Express - Prime Minister Kamla PersadBissessar Wednesday said she is awaiting with “great expectations” the debate in the Upper House on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2014. Using the built-in delay mechanism in this country’s Parliament, PersadBissessar said the Senate debate on the bill, which was expected to be held next Tuesday, will now be pushed pack “to allow for further discussions before a vote is taken”. Former leader of government business in the Senate Justice Minister

Emmanuel George Wednesday said he expects the bill to be passed in the Upper House. PersadBissessar and George made the statements at the opening ceremony for the Diego Martin Highway Expansion Phase 4B. Delivering the feature address, Persad-Bissessar said, “In the history of governance in Trinidad and Tobago people have never been empowered as they are now as a result of changes being brought.” One of those changes is the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2014, which

was passed in the Lower House on Tuesday morning, Persad-Bissessar said. “We now await with great expectation the debate in the Senate on the Constitution Amendment Bill 2014,” Persad-Bissessar said. “We will also note that using the built-in delay mechanism afforded by our two houses structure, a bicameral legislature, House and Senate, there is a delay and we are utilising that delay process to ensure that there is further time for discussion before a vote is taken in the Senate,” she said. “The bill will be laid on

Outgoing Antigua AG accuses government of lying regarding her removal ST. JOHN’S, Antigua CMC – Outgoing Governor General Dame Louise LakeTack Wednesday accused the new Gaston Browne government of lying to the country regarding her removal from office. Dame Louise was replaced by former legislator Dr. Rodney Williams as the ceremonial head of the country, yesterday, two months after the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) won the June 12 general election. Government’s Chief of Staff Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst, speaking on the State-owned ABS television Wednesday,

hinted that the head of state had been fired, telling viewers had Dame Louise agreed to resign, she would have left with greater benefits. “There are greater benefits bestowed on the Governor General if that person resigns, but this Governor General did not resign,” he told viewers, adding “this current Governor General has made a demand for almost a million dollars in benefits. “We don’t believe that amount is justified,” Hurst said, adding the matter is before the relevant authorities to deal with. He said the outgoing head

of state would receive her monthly salary, estimated at EC$15,000 (One EC dollar=US$.0.37 cents) for the rest of her life in addition to other benefits. But in an immediate response to Hurst’s comments, the outgoing head of state said the events as outlined by the government’s chief of staff were untrue. “I heard Max Hurst saying that they sacked me or asked for me to leave. I want Antiguans and Barbudans to note that no one in Antigua has the jurisdiction to sack any governor general. They only can ask Her Majesty to remove that person”.

Magistrate insists problem-hit Vybz Kartel conspiracy trial starts October 29 Jamaica Gleaner - A magistrate today insisted that the conspiracy trial of popular entertainers Vybz Kartel and Gaza Slim will start on October 29, after failed efforts to do so this week. Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer and Gaza Slim, whose given name is Vanessa Saddler, are charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. Andre Henry, alias ‘Pim Pim’ is also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. The trial was initially scheduled to start on Monday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court but could not because of the late serving of documents and unsettled legal representation for Henry. Yesterday when the case came before Resident Magistrate Simone Wolfe-Reece a new mention date of August 29 was set. She insisted that the trial will start in the week of October 29.

The magistrate has given Henry until that time to settle his legal representation. This after Peter Champagnie, withdrew as his lawyer. Meanwhile, both Henry and Saddler had their bail extended, while Kartel, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, was further remanded.

It is alleged that Kartel and Gaza Slim were part of a plot to undermine the police’s investigation into Williams’ death. Gaza Slim allegedly turned up at the police station to report that the deceased Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams had robbed her, in a move to side-track the police who were investigating his murder at the time.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar Tuesday 19th, but the debate will not commence thereon but a date following upon that to allow for more time to elapse,” Persad-Bissessar said. “The people of Trinidad and Tobago must not be silent spectators to the process of governance and development, the concept of governance must not be limited to what the elected Government and its officials do.

“You have rights and we will seek to protect those rights and from as high as the nation’s Constitution, this is where those rights have maximum effect when you have the power to choose properly to exert your will on elected persons you ensure that issues such as infrastructure, child care, health care and education are managed, not for the political image of elected persons but for the broad benefit of the people who voted and that is you the electorate,” PersadBissessar said. She said the bill was helping to put power back into the hands of c i t i z e n s . “Through the power that the Constitution now gives you, you can dictate the pace, the level and the quality of development in your own communities. “You have the power to demand even more accountability, transparency and open government, and you have the assurance that as long as I have anything

to do with it we will do everything we can to protect your rights and enhance those rights and respect them,” she said. Persad-Bissessar said much was being said about the run-off provision in the bill without its real purpose being properly highlighted. “I hear a lot about runoff, but I don’t know if we are giving cognizance to the fact that it is not the run-off that is the focus, that the focus is that an opportunity is being given to ensure that when you vote the member of Parliament you elect is elected by the majority of the votes and not by a minority. That is the purpose of the run-off,” she said. “So where a candidate does not get 50 per cent of the vote, only in those instances there will be a second ballot between the highest-scoring and secondhighest-scoring candidates to select them,” PersadBissessar said.

Toronto – Mexico’s dream of joining fellow CONCACAF sides Canada and the United States in the knockout stages of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup were dashed following a 2-1 loss to Korea Republic on Wednesday at the National Soccer Stadium (BMO Field). Nigeria - a 2-1 winner over England - finished atop Group C with seven points, while the Koreans, who entered the final match day at the bottom of the group with one point, grabbed the runner-up spot. England and Mexico were eliminated with two points apiece. After seeing her team fall behind 2-0, Mexico’s Tanya Samarzich willed Mexico back into the game with a 74th minute goal. Her constant running and relentless pressure on defenders paid off with an opportunistic lob into the side netting from 12yards out to halve the deficit. She nearly had the tying goal five minutes later, but Korean goalkeeper Min

Yukyeong parried her long distance shot over the bar. With two minutes left in normal time, a looping header by Samarzich went wide and Mexico was unable to get the equalizer it so desperately needed. South Korea took a deserved 1-0 lead two minutes before halftime, when Lee Geummin received a cross

from the left with her chest and calmly knocked it in from eight-yards out. Lee Sodam doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 65th minute, putting her attempt to the left of Mexican goalkeeper Cecilia Santiago after Clarissa Robles was ruled to have tripped Guemmin inside the box.

Guyana presented with three-day trophy Chanderpaul named MVP Guyana are the most successful team in the history of Regional Under-19 threeday cricket claiming their 13th title and first since 2007, when they captured the 2014 tournament last month. The Brian Sattaur led unit, who are also in today’s oneday final, received the coveted three-day trophy from Director of Sports Neil Kumar who represented the Government of Guyana at the Closing Ceremony of the 2014 Regional Under-19 cricket tournament at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pavilion on Wednesday night. West Indies U-19 opener Taignarine Chanderpaul who scored the second most runs including the highest score of the tournament with an unbeaten 132 to average 61.75, was adjudged the tournament’s Most Valuable Player while Leeward Islands batsman Kacey Carty from St. Marteen, with 248 runs, captured the award for the batsman with the most runs after scoring a single run more

than Chanderpaul. Barbadian Chad Williams with 26 scalps took the Bowler with the most wickets Award while Bajan Keeper Leniko Boucher walked away with the Award for the Most Dismissals with 6 catches and a stumping. Chanderpaul copped the Award for highest score while West Indies Under-19 pacer Alzarri Joseph from Antigua and the Leewards was adjudged the most promising fast bowler on show on pitches which were generally low and slow. Each Umpire and the three Match Referees also collected medals for their service to the tournament. The Match Referees included former Guyana and West Indies fast bowlers Reon King and Colin Stuart while another former West Indies player, 40-year-old Vincentian left-arm pacer Deighton Butler, who played five Test matches, was the only FirstClass player among the Umpires. Parliamentarian Kumar

congratulated the Guyana team for their three-day success adding that despite all the issues he was pleased to see the outstanding performances of the Under-19 and U-15 teams resulted in them winning titles in their respective age groups while he noted that the National Female Senior Team lost in the final of the Regional Women’s tournament on Wednesday. Kumar said since there were no awards for AllRounders, the National Sports Commission (NSC) would ‘put up’ a prize for the Best All-Rounder in the limited overs tournament which will be presented at the end of today’s Final. President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Drubahadur, lauded the Government of Guyana and the West Indies Cricket Board for agreeing to have the tournament hosted in Guyana, after the third and final Test match between West Indies and New Zealand was pulled from Guyana owing to administrative issues. He told the players that cricket is not just a sport, but can be a career, as he urged

them to make maximum use of the opportunities being afforded to them. The GCB Head said that all court cases against the Board did to prevent it from providing the type of preparation to ensure the youngsters played to the best of their abilities. GCB Secretary and WICB Director Anand Sanasie, who delivered the vote of thanks, said his Board tried to provide the best possible preparation for the teams and congratulated the players for repaying all those who spent their time and energy in assisting them, with championship titles. “May the better team win on Friday, I will not say who my heart wants to win but I will say again may the better team win” Sanasie told the gathering which encompassed past players and parents of the players, including prolific Test batsman Shiv Chanderpaul, the father of Taignarine Chanderpaul who turns 40 tomorrow. The team is now set to improve its fortunes when those players square off with USA team, Portland Timbers, at the same venue, August 19 next. Coach of the local team, Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover is confident that his boys will apply themselves to the task at hand and come out victorious and he expressed these sentiments at a press conference at the Water Chris Hotel, Waterloo Street Georgetown yesterday morning. The forum was also attended by President of the AUFC, Odinga Lumumba, Vice President, Steve Ninvalle, Agent, Fabio, and several local players along with guest players Manuel Vargas and Caio Oliviera. Mr. Dover said that following the loss to Olimpia the team returned to the drawing board in an effort to correct mistakes of that encounter. “We dealt with the finishes even as we reviewed the reasons for our missed chances,” Dover explained. He said that during the evaluation process he implored upon the team to be more clinical in their applications. “It is extremely important that we

win this game and clinch the full three points as it would be very difficult to qualify to the next round if we don’t,” said Dover in an attempt to underline the importance of an outright victory. The Alpha coach said that his technical team had reviewed the Hondurans game and is satisfied that the local ball weavers are capable of winning this game. Defender, Howard Lowe is back in the team and Dover is adamant that he is one of, if not the best defenders around. Otherwise, Dover said that he prefers not to elaborate on certain strategic issues as he wishes to surprise the adversary. Once again, Lumumba has issued a call to corporate Guyana for support of the team. “The mere fact that this game is a national sporting event is enough to encourage support from the business community but with the exception of a few we have not received anything,” he lamented. He said that such activities impact positively on the country which is exposed to the world in good light. Adding his voice to the reason for the team’s loss a few weeks ago, Lumumba opined that the team was not match ready. “But we are in a better position now and will win this match,” he reaffirmed. That apart, Lumumba singled out several entities and organizations that have contributed to the team’s preparations. He said such firms as DDL, Ansa McAl, Michael Cummings

Odinga Lumumba (2nd left sitting) at the press briefing with Steve Ninvalle (left), Wayne Dover (2nd right) and Fabio during yesterday’s press brief while some Aplha members of the team are standing behind. Electrical, New GPC (Limacol) have assisted greatly. “I also wish to extend gratitude to Courts Guyana) Inc. for supporting the team’s efforts Courts with a substantial contribution of $250,000 yesterday morning,” he said. The defending CONCACAF Champions League champion is ‘Cruz Azul’ and twenty-four teams are participating in this s e a s o n ’s C h a m p i o n s League, marking the seventh edition in which a Confederation-wide group phase has been disputed before the knockout rounds. Sixteen clubs debut in the tournament’s first week, with the other eight – including Major League Soccer sides DC United, New York Red Bulls, Portland Timbers, Sporting KC and Liga MX entrant, Club America.

East Bank footballers to benefit as MCYS hosts Football Academy Footballers along the East Bank corridor will get an opportunity to hone their skills in the intricacies of the football development when officials of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport stage the Football Academy 2014 at the Grove Playfield, EBD August 1822 next. Activities are being conducted under the mission statement, a quote from Edison Arantes do Nascimento aka Pele, “Success is no accident, it is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do”. The pivotal objective of the programme is to increase participation in grassroots, youth and outreach football programmes across Guyana. Officials are also intent on promoting the development of football while

committing to creating opportunities for young footballers. They said that the ultimate goal is to assist the ball weavers to become professionally involved in the sport through education and involvement in competitions and leagues at the community and national level. Participants will be drawn from several villages along the East Bank including Agricola, Herstelling, Eccles, Mocha, Kuru Kururu, Diamond and Grove. Further, the programme is meant to provide support to member associations to organize players in the promotion of football within the country while improving the knowledge and competencies of those youngsters in the area of football development.

The top club from each of the eight three-team groups advances to the knockout round. The quarterfinal,

semifinal and final rounds are slated for early next year. Alpha is also slated to play in Honduras in a return fixture,

August 28 before moving on to Portland Timbers, USA, in that country September 23 next.

Guyana go after ‘double’ today; battle Windwards at Everest By Sean Devers Today at the Everest ground on Camp Road, Guyana, who finished unbeaten in the Regional 50-over Under-19 cricket tournament will want to keep their unblemished record intact by putting the icing on the cake with a victory over the Windward Islands in the f i n a l o f t h i s y e a r ’s competition after winning the three-day version last month. A Guyana win today will give the South Americans their second victory over the Windwards in the 2014 competition and their first ever 50-over title since this format was introduced in Trinidad in 1998. The Windward Islands’ final round victory over Jamaica saw them overtaking the defending Champions by the narrowest of margins to

finish second with 21.9 points to Jamaica’s 21.8 and book a place in the final of the 14th 50-over tournament. This is the 14th time Guyana is hosting the R e g i o n a l U - 1 9 tournament but only the third time the 50-over format is being played here since in 2000, when the Windwards won their only U-19 title, the 50overs competition was washed out while in 2006 there was no 50-over format. O n l y Tr i n i d a d a n d Tobago (3 times) and Jamaica (twice) have ever won both titles in the same year and if Guyana emerges victorious today they will join them. The Windwards’ win over Jamaica on Wednesday prevented the lads from Reggae country from reaching their third consecutive 50-over final and they are quite capable

of breaking Guyana’s sequence of wins, with an upset victory today in the most important match of the event. Guyana will be led by openers Shemron Hetmyer a n d Ta i g n a r i n e Chanderpaul, the only two batsmen with centuries in both formats in the same year. The opening pair

put on 129 against the Islanders at Albion before featuring in a record 176run stand the next day against Barbados at the Stadium when they scored 298-5, the highest total in the 2014 competition. If the pair continues its dominance today on what should be a fast outfield, the Windwards bowlers could be in for a tough day at the office. Brian Sattuar is also k n own for his powerhitting but he has consistently been dismissed playing reckless shots. However, if he gets going today the crowd could be in for a treat. Kemo Paul has four fifties in the tournament and is considered the best all-rounder in the tournament while Askay Homraj, Sharaz Ramcharran, Balchand Baldeo, Renaldo Mohamed and Kemol

WICB admits to error in misleading playing conditions

Guyana not yet ‘double’ Champions Former Barbados and West Indies batsman Roland Holder, the Manager of Cricket Operations at the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has informed the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) that Guyana are not yet the one-day champions despite winning all of their matches in this year’s Regional 50-over Under-19 tournament. The WICB has admitted to an error in the 2014 playing conditions for the limited overs format which indicated that Guyana that had won the title by virtue of them finishing with the most points. “Unfortunately, the language under Law 43 was included in the Playing Conditions in error, and is not intended to apply to the 2014 edition of the WICB Regional Under -19 tournament. We regret any misunderstanding, and apologise for the confusion caused by this unfortunate, though innocent, mistake. We trust that this issue can now be put to rest and we can focus our attention on staging a successful final match on August 15, following which the

tournament winner will be declared” the WICB official stated. The full text of the correspondence read: “Re: Determination of Regional Under-19 One Day Tournament. I refer to your letter of 12th August 2014 on the matter at caption. In May 2014, the WICB Board of Directors agreed that the winner of the One Day component of the WICB Regional Under-19 tournament 2014 would be determined as follows: (i) The top two teams with the most number of points in the group stages will contest a final (ii) In the event of teams finishing on equal points, the higher number of outright wins will determine the positions on the tournament table. (iii) Should there be equality in both points and outright wins, the positions shall be determined by the higher net run-rate. (iv) In the event of the final being abandoned, the winner of the tournament will be the team with the most points in the group stages. As you have noted, this is consistent with Law

21.9(b) of the Playing Conditions, which is in terms of the above. As this represents a departure from previous years’ tournament formats, particular mention was made of this clause when the Playing Conditions were sent out in June. Further, you would have seen from the fixtures sent out, that the schedule of matches included a final, so that the tournament will not end until after the final scheduled match. U n f o r t u n a t e l y, t h e language under Law 43 was included in the Playing Conditions in error, and is not intended to apply to the 2014 edition of the WICB Regional Under -19 tournament. The provision which should apply is as stated in Law 21.9(b). We r e g r e t a n y misunderstanding, and apologise for the confusion caused by this unfortunate, though innocent, mistake. We trust that this issue can now be put to rest and we can focus our attention on staging a successful final match on August 15, following which the tournament winner will be declared”

Savory can all contribute significantly with the bat. Hetmyer (84) and Chanderpaul (43) tore into the Windwards’ attack in Berbice before Paul’s blazing 51 ensured Guyana galloped to 2765. An unbeaten 13-ball 30 from Mohamed and a cameo 28 from Homraj also aided the home team’s cause in the Ancient County on Tuesday. Fast bowlers Sherman Lewis and Ryan John were the leading wicket-takers for the Islanders who responded with 162 all out off 41.3 overs despite an attacking 43 f r o m K ershaskie Jno Lewis. Skipper Roland Cato (38) and John (33) also offered support while Baldeo (3-35) and Ramcharran (2-26) were the main wicket takers for the Guyanese. Today Guyana will depend on Paul to make an early break through with the new ball. Off-spinner Baldeo, who could again open the bowling, Guyana’s l e a d i n g w i c k e t t a k e r, off-spinner Ramcharran, leg-spinner Steven Sankar and off-spinner Daimon Waldron are expected to offer crucial support on the spin-friendly pitch. Gidron Pope and Melvin Gordon will hope to lay a solid foundation for their team for Sherman Hooper, Lewis, Cato, Anson Latchman and John to build on.

Lewis and John should share the new ball while Deron Hypolite, Doran Edwards, Pope, Obed McCoy and Craig Phillip could all lend support with the ball. The presentation of the limited overs awards will be done after to d a y ’s g a m e w h i c h i s scheduled to commence at 09:30 hrs. Guyana: Brian Sattaur (captain), Sharaz Ramcharran (vice captain), Balchan Baldeo, Daniel Basdeo, T a g e n a r i n e Chandrapaul, Shimron Hetmyer, Askay Homray, Keon Morris, Keemo Paul, Steven Sankar, Kemol Savory, Niall Smith, Daimon Waldron, Akel Wallace. GABBFF mourns death of Delon Harlequin

Delon Harlequin

The bodybuilding fraternity has been left in a state of shock with the passing of competitor Delon Harlequin yesterday. The 32 year-old Harlequin of Lot B Grant Scheme, Craig, EBD was involved in an accident on Tuesday evening on his way home after leaving the Guyana Defense Force Gym, Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara. The very competitive body builder was hit off of his motor cycle by a motorist, ending up in a nearby trench where he hit his head on a concrete structure thereby sustaining multiple injuries including a broken leg. Unfortunately, the extent of the injuries was that severe that Harlequin never recovered and succumbed yesterday morning. President of the Guyana

Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) Keavon Bess in an invited comment said that the fraternity is in a state of shock following Harlequin’s demise. “Delon was a committed athlete who always gave of his best when in the gym and on the competition stage. He was always smiling and ready to compete even when the odds were stacked against him.” The GABBFF boss in extending condolences to Harlequin’s family and the body building fraternity said that the athlete would surely be missed noting that he was still a very young athlete who has gone too soon. Simmons, Guptill propel Warriors into final Openers Lendl Simmons and Martin Guptill led the Guyana Amazon Warriors to a comprehensive 10-wicket demolition of the Jamaica Tallawahs in the second p l a y o ff m a t c h o f t h e Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament yesterday. Man-of-the-match Simmons smashed 71 off 43 balls and Guptill hammered 66 from 46 to steer the Warriors to 138 in 14.5 overs. Jamaica Tallawahs scored 134-6 after they were inserted by the Warriors at Warner Park in St. Kitts. Chadwick Walton led with 34, Nkrumah Bonner and Andre Russell chipped in with 21 and 20 respectively. The Warriors’ bowling was up to the task and the Tallawahs found it difficult to increase the scoring in the latter stages. Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton gave the Tallawahs a steady start with a stand of 55. The pair started cautiously but was quick to pounce on the bad balls. Gayle flicked and pulled Ronsford Beaton through mid wicket for fours while Walton punched Navin

Stewart to the cover boundary and drove him through point in his first over. Gayle greeted James Neesham with a boundary through mid wicket, but the introduction of Narine gave t h e Wa r r i o r s t h e breakthrough. The off spinner had Walton caught for 34 in the 10th over. He faced 35 balls, hitting three fours and one six. Simmons then held a well judged catch off Neesham to get rid of Gayle for 19 (3x4). Adam Voges and Nkrumah Bonner added 15 for the third wicket before Voges chipped too early and was stumped by Ramdin off Hafeez down the leg side for seven. Andre Russell and Nkrumah Bonner featured in a fourth wicket stand of 32. Russell pulled Beaton to the mid wicket boundary and tucked Santokie for another, but suffered from the most unfortunate of run outs. Bonner’s drive struck the tip of Santokie’s finger before hitting the stumps and found non striker Russell well short of his ground. Russell scored 20 off 12 balls. Bonner (21) then hit

- hammer Tallawahs by 10 wickets Martin Guptil

Lendl Simmons

Santokie to Hafeez at cover the very next delivery to leave the score at 107-5. Taylor played a little cameo

hitting 17 off nine balls towards the end. Hafeez supported Narine with 1-19; Santokie had 1-22 and

Neesham 1-26. The evening however belonged to Simmons and Guptill as the pair batted with assurance, their running between the wickets was well complimented by some lusty hitting. Guptill hit David Bernard for four over mid off and Simmons smashed Vetorri for a maximum over long on to get the response going. Taylor was the most expensive of the bowlers (36 from 3 overs); Guptill effortlessly flicked him for a maximum over fine leg, pulled him for four in the said region before smashing the pacer over long on for another maximum in his second over. Gayle rung the changes but to no avail. Guptill

greeted Rusty Theron with a maximum and Simmons deposited him for another as the Warriors raced to 87 without loss at the half way stage. Simmons reached his fifty in fine fashion; he clobbered Taylor for a six and pulled him for consecutive fours to arrive at his half century off 30 balls. Guptill who reached his 21st fifty in all T20 games with a double and then drove Theron to the cover boundary to seal the issue. Simmons’ knock contained seven fours and three sixes while Guptill smashed six fours and two maximums. Warriors will now take on Barbados Tridents in the final tomorrow at the same venue.
