SUPPORT
PROUD TO
SOMERSET YOUNG FARMERS

Rally Chairman’s Welcome

On behalf of the 2024 Somerset Young Farmers County Rally committee, I would like to welcome you to The Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.

As we celebrate the 90th year of the Somerset Federation of Young Farmers, this year’s Musical Madness themed Rally brings together the 21 clubs from across the county, enabling current members aged 10 – 28 to showcase their talents in a variety of Competitions, Stockjudging, Handicrafts, Main Events, Livestock Showing and much more, all whilst socialising with likeminded members, and showcasing what young farmers has to offer.

The 2024 Rally committee was formed back in January 2023, and we have had numerous post holder changes along the way. But, the day has finally arrived, and I hope that everyone attending thoroughly enjoys themselves.

Membership is currently at an all-time high since COVID-19, with over 800 members within Somerset YFC. Our intentions for this year’s Rally, have been to encourage and allow all members to participate. The membership response to these changes has been incredibly positive, with tremendous entries across all sections. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each club and competitor and wish you all the best of luck throughout the Rally.

In order to run the County Rally, it relies heavily on financial support. With costs escalating in recent years, it has been incredibly challenging to ensure we can hold the renowned highlight of the Somerset YFC calendar for all members and attendees to enjoy. It is also one of the main fundraisers which helps to fund the day to day running of our county, so it is incredibly important that it is a success. I would like to offer my sincere thanks to all of our sponsors and contributors who have been incredibly generous with financial support and services. And thank you for all of the local and online support that we have received throughout our fundraising efforts. As a committee, we are truly grateful.

Personally, at 21 years old, becoming Rally Chairman was not on my immediate radar! It has been an exhausting 15 months, with restrictions and red tape from all directions, licensing application paperwork and deadlines, endless meetings, site visits, late nights, long days, and a never-ending to-do list. You would never believe what goes on behind the scenes to put on a Rally! A huge thank you must go to Louise and Portly for their support, for which I am truly grateful. Also, to our County Chairman, Sam, who has been a great support since being elected, travelling far and wide to meetings and fundraisers at every opportunity. I also must thank my family and friends for being hugely supportive, helpful and patient throughout this process! My final thankyou must go to the Wessex Group committee for helping raise funds and for making sure the Rally day goes smoothly.

I wish Fosse group all the very best for the 2025 Somerset YFC Annual County Rally.

Best Wishes,

1

Supporting Agriculture & Rural Communities

The Richard Oatley Foundation is delighted to be supporting the Somerset Young Farmers Club 2024 Rally and would like to join the organisers in welcoming you to this wonderful event.

Like many of those in attendance today, the late Richard Oatley was passionate about farming and agriculture throughout Wiltshire and Somerset.

At the end of his long life, Richard established the Richard Oatley Foundation to support numerous well-known organisations whose work were close to his heart. As a local farmer who had spent his entire life in the area, he knew the importance of farming and agriculture to local communities and the many challenges faced by those working in and relying on the industry.

It was important to him that the Foundation supported organisations that genuinely benefit the local community and can make a difference.

The Foundation will therefore be supporting several farming and agricultural organisations in their work and will fund charities involved in cancer research and patient support, organisations that assist in the enhancement of community facilities, promotion of rural opportunities and the protection of historic buildings.

Richard was passionate about engaging young people with farming and the opportunities to work on the land and with livestock. The Foundation will be actively supporting this endeavour to ensure faring has a bright future for generations to come.

The Foundation is proud to be partnering with the Somerset YFC and to support the 2024 Rally.
