I attended my first ASAO meeting back in 2006, I would never have thought then almost exactly 20 years later (wow! I really am getting old!) that I would be asked to write the welcome for our members for the 2026 season as Chair Elect.
Back in 2006, when I first joined the industry, (which was more by accident than intention) ASAO, its council and members, welcomed me with open arms, guided and supported me, and showed me just how truly unique and lucky I was to be working in the Show business! Having had a temporary move into other types of events in the midteens. I knew pretty quickly that I needed to get back into the agricultural events industry, and in 2016 I was lucky enough to be given that opportunity at the South of England Agricultural Society, which like many of us in the industry, had been my family show ever since I can remember, so I felt like it was meant to be and I have not really ever looked back.
Of course ASAO welcomed me back with open arms, and showed the support and encouragement they had always done, it really is the most special association/family. So I am truly honoured to be sitting here today, writing this little message, knowing that come February I will be chair. What makes things even more special I will be heading up an allfemale group, alongside Mared as my amazing Vice Chair, Jenna and Pam. I think I speak for all of us, in saying that we are all so passionate about this industry and the ASAO. Alongside the rest of council, who all bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, we will be constantly looking at ways in which we can improve things for our members, and making sure everyone feels as welcomed and supported as I have done.
I am super excited for the future of the ASAO, as we steer into the 2nd quarter of the 21st century. Working with Jenna and Pam, in Jenna’s first year as CEO, I am sure that Jenna will have a very positive impact on the association, as we move forward. Whilst still maintaining the close family feel and support that it offers its members.
I know attending functions with lots of unfamiliar faces can be daunting, but I cannot emphasis enough the benefits of joining in on as many of the ASAO events as possible, be it the annual conference, Learning Day, regional meetings, or even the monthly catch up’s, I guarantee you won’t regret it and will find at least one positive thing to take home and implement at your show/organisation. You will also doubtlessly go home with some amazing friends and a support network, that will be there for you through-out the year, more than happy to be on the end of a phone line, to support you through any tough times, but also there to help you celebrate the amazing times, the show world provides. No, 2 years are the same, with what the world throws at you in this industry, it is a constant rollercoaster, but you are never alone, I assure you ASAO, the ASAO executive, council and members are here on the ride with you.
All that is left to do, is wish you a successful 2026 and look forward to visiting as many shows as I can throughout the year and hopefully seeing many of you on a catch up soon.

Corrie Ince – ASAO Chairman
Corrie has been working in events since 2006, starting off with the Edenbridge & Oxted Show, where she was involved in all aspects of show organising. In 2012 she moved to working in more commercial events for a Brighton based manufacturing company, organising their events in the UK and Internationally. In 2016 she moved back into the “show business” and become Sales & operations Manager at the South of England Agricultural Society, responsible for booking and managing of trade stands and content for their 4 annual shows. In July 2020 she become Show Director at the South of England, with overall coordination and management of the 4 shows. Outside of work Corrie other passion in life is horse riding, having ridden and competed in many different disciplines from an early age.

Mared Rand Jones – ASAO Vice Chairman
Mared Rand Jones was raised on a dairy farm, near Lampeter in West Wales and is the eldest of four children. She’s been working as Chief Executive for Wales YFC for 2 years and is responsible of the strategic development of the organisation. Mared believes that YFC plays an important role within the Show industry as they are the future of our shows. Previously Mared worked for the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society as Head of Operations for 5 years, then as a County Executive Officer for Farmers Union of Wales and 11 years as a Development Officer for Ceredigion YFC. She is very passionate about Agriculture Shows and has attended many shows for personal interest and within her professional roles.

Jenna Payne– Chief Executive Officer
Jenna has been actively involved in the show industry from a young age, organising her first horse show aged sixteen. Since turning professional in 2016, she managed Stithians Show before supporting Show Secretaries across the UK through her role with Showing Scene. Jenna joined the ASAO team in Summer 2025, where she is committed to developing the future of the Association and the wider show community. Alongside her industry work, she practises as a McTimoney Veterinary Chiropractor and serves as a first responder with Cornwall Ambulance Service. Pam Clements – Membership Administrator
Pam Clements joined the ASAO team in June 2024 as Membership Administrator. Pam started working in the Show industry at the Bath & West and then Great Yorkshire. 8 years as commercial manager at Wincanton Racecourse was followed by 11 years as regional manager for the RABI, where she reconnected with her old friends in the agricultural show world having a trade stand in numerous shows. Pam helps her husband Tom on their farm on the Devon/Somerset border. Where she has her two horses Paddy & Dougal, and terrier Guinness. Email: Info@asao.co.uk
Alice Arnold
Alice has been Show Manager for the Royal Three Counties Show and CountryTastic since 2022, bringing commercial insight and creative leadership to the team. A Rural Enterprise and Land Management graduate from Harper Adams, she gained practical experience in farming and estate management with Savills. She later worked for Farming-on-Line, supporting digital adoption in agriculture, and ran a fine art business specialising in animal paintings. Now in her fifth season, Alice has enhanced layouts, introduced new features, improved communication and strengthened financial performance, helping secure the Society’s long-term sustainability.

Alison Baylis
Alison has been the Show Secretary of Bucks County Agricultural Association since 2000 and appointed onto the ASAO Council in 2019. Alison is the ASAO’s Regional Champion for England and also led the Mentoring Team at the ASAO Centenary Conference in 2023.

James Cox
James began volunteering at Dorset County Show aged 10, later working as a Summer Assistant through school and college. After college, he joined the Royal Bath & West of England Society as Trade Stand Assistant, supporting Grassland UK and the Royal Bath & West Show, remaining for five years in sponsorship, marketing and trade stand management roles. In 2019, he became Show Organiser for Gillingham & Shaftesbury Show, introducing its first logo, driving record attendance, digital innovation and new COVID-era events. Since joining Dorset County Show in 2022, he has delivered record crowds, a rebrand, redesigned layouts and launched the Dorset Spring Show and Dorset Cultivation Event.

Rhonda Geary (Co-opted)
Rhonda is the Operations Director for the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society and Balmoral Show Rhonda is also the current Secretary of the Northern Ireland Shows Association. Rhonda is the ASAO’s Regional Champion for Northern Ireland. Email: rhonda@ruas.org.uk
Richard Heath
Showground Director for the Moreton-in-Marsh Show; a traditional one-day show on the first Saturday in September. Richard became involved with organising agricultural shows whilst studying bio veterinary science at Harper Adams University. Becoming a Director and Trustee of the Hanbury Countryside Show in Worcestershire. Previously employed by the Three Counties Agricultural Society, working principally on the Royal Three Counties Show. Richard has attended various midlands agricultural shows year after year from a young age, often exhibiting his rare breed poultry. Exhibiting poultry engaged the development of a passion for agricultural shows.

Christine Knipe
Christine has been involved with agricultural shows all her life –exhibiting, stewarding, volunteering, judging and visiting. After 18 years inpost, she recently stood down as Chief Executive of Westmorland County Agricultural Society and currently holds the post of Experience Director with the Royal Agricultural Society of England. The Knipes live on their Cumbrian upland sheep, beef and poultry farm. A former Chair of the ASAO, Christine is a Fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies, a Trustee of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, secretary of the NW Federation of Show Societies, section Chair of Cartmel Show and chairs the national Access to Farms partnership. As ASAO’s Education Champion, she is passionate to develop educational opportunities to promote agriculture within our shows and organisations.

Lisa Moore
With over 20 years of experience at the Devon County Show, Lisa has good understanding of the agricultural Show community. As the DCAA Chief Executive and Devon County Show Manager, she oversees the Show while also guiding the Devon County Agricultural Association in hosting key events such as Farmwise, Rootstock, Agrifest and various events at Westpoint. She has a commitment to making the Show accessible to all to ensure these events are inclusive, welcoming, and impactful, fostering growth and innovation. She is married to Ben who also has an involvement with the Show as a Chief Steward and has two children Sophie and Charlie (who is absolutely a next generation Steward!)

Mark Stoddart
Mark is the Secretary / CEO of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, where he brings his skills in IT, financial strategies and building a strong team to the Royal Cornwall Show. He previously carried out a number of roles in his 19 years at The Great Yorkshire Show, including Society Manager and Financial Controller. He has also been instrumental in leading the Agricultural Charities approach to VAT on Show Tickets. He is a past Chair and Board Member of ASAO. He is married to Amanda, who is the Livestock Coordinator at the GYS.

David Tennant
David has worked for the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland since 2010 beginning as an annual temporary member of staff before becoming permanently employed in 2015 and moving to his current position of Head of Show in 2022. Along with looking after the trade, competitions and activation elements of the Royal Highland Show David is the lead on Scottish Show Forum, which holds an annual conference and provides a platform for the Scottish Agricultural Show industry to engage with each other and share good practice. In 2019, David graduated from the Scottish Enterprise Rural Leadership Program, which focuses on self-development and self-awareness to empower individuals to effectively respond to the challenges and to enact positive change in the wider rural economy.

David Tite
David joined the team at Yorkshire Agricultural Society in 2024 as their Society Manager, working on the Great Yorkshire Show and across the charity and business, after working for the Driffield Agricultural Society for 20 years as their CEO and working on the show for over 30. David also holds the role of Honorary Secretary for the Yorkshire Federation of Show Societies, supporting over 50 Agricultural Shows across the wider Yorkshire region with an annual one day conference and by being their link to the ASAO. He is a former Chairman of the ASAO and is currently a council member of the organization, acting as one of the Learning Day Champions and is married to Cara and has two young boys, Monty and Rupert.

Monthly Catch ups on Teams
Each month, there is an opportunity to join a Teams meeting to discuss urgent issues and be updated on recent legislation and industry developments. We regularly have guest speakers on specialist topics.
Annual Autumn Conference
The ASAO holds its Annual Conference in the Autumn, moving to a different location each year. Delegates come from across the UK to take part in a programme of presentations, panel discussions with keynote speakers and syndicate sessions focusing on current industry issues.
The Conference is an excellent opportunity for show organisers to share experiences, exchange ideas and tackle ongoing challenges.
The Conference also offers event organisers the chance to chat to each other with evening social functions. The 2026 Conference will be held at the South of England Showground on the 13th & 14th November.
Regional Meetings
ASAO members can attend one-day regional meetings throughout the UK with colleagues to discuss issues and challenges of both a local and a national nature.
Learning Day
The Learning Day is an annual one-day event held in late-February/early-March. Each Learning Day focuses on several key subjects so delegates know that the subject matter is targeted. The topics are chosen by the membership and may include subjects such as livestock and equine matters, marketing and promotion, membership, sponsorship, trade stands and education.

1. PPL PRS Ltd (The Music Licence)
There are two licences in operation – one for pre-recorded music and one for live music. The ASAO has arranged a fee collection service for the pre-recorded licence through PPL at a 20% discount – this discounted amount will be added to your ASAO membership invoice and will be calculated on an individual basis depending on footfall. For those with live music, PRS will contact you directly and you should ensure that the Agricultural Shows tariff is used.
2. Health & Safety
*NEW FOR 2026* Gull Rock Events are our new contracted Health & Safety Advisors following the retirement of Cathy Ricketts. Kevin Instance CMIOSH, OSHCR is our main point of contact. If you need advice, support or a second opinion, you’ll have up to 30 minutes free support (per subject matter) as part of your membership to ASAO (subject to fair usage). COWPAT Award
(Countess of Wessex Perpetual Annual Trophy)
The award was originally created by our Patron as a light-hearted way to recognise the Show Secretary or Officer who had made the most memorable ‘mistake’ of the year! Over time, these have ranged from the incorrect identification of animals during a Royal visit to accidentally deleting the finished table plan for the ASAO black tie dinner — all taken in good spirit, of course.
Since the pandemic, and with the many challenges our industry has faced, the award has evolved. It is now open for nominations for a members’ representative who has gone above and beyond to support, enable and encourage their Organisation or Show through recent times — bringing people together and strengthening the offering of their organisation and our wider show community.

Lifetime Achievement Award
The award was introduced during our centenary year in 2023 and will now be presented annually at the ASAO Conference. It recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the agricultural show industry.
Nominations are welcomed from across the show community. The award is open to anyone involved with agricultural shows, such as volunteers, staff, contractors, judges, traders and commentators. The recipient will receive a framed certificate, an engraved glass trophy and honorary lifetime membership of the ASAO — a small token of our appreciation for their exceptional dedication and service.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Membership of the ASAO runs from 1st January to 31st December in any one year.
Costs are based on attendance, the figure given for the Members Handbook.
Membership includes guidance from the ASAO Health and Safety Advisor. For shows that play music, the ASAO can also provide discounted PPL fees (part of the PPL PRS Music Licence) with the membership. Fees for PPL will depend upon the show’s attendance.

Car parking:
Car parks – internal traffic management is vital for any show to be successful. Our car parking staff know that providing an efficient car parking service is paramount, they also know how important it is that the meet and greet starts with them.
Entrance and Gate admissions:
Event Operation Specialists provide a total solution with regards to on the day cash/card sales, ticket checking and auditing. Senior management along with supervisory key staff oversee the gates operation. We also provide an experienced audit team who then provide you with a comprehensive audit report.
