Frequently Asked Questions about the Continuing Education Grant Who can apply?
Residents who have lived on Haida Gwaii for the past 24 consecutive months. A student who has left Haida Gwaii to attend school but otherwise maintains their residency is considered a resident. This grant is open to mature students, recent high school graduates, and both full-time and part-time students.
How much money is available?
Up to $3,750 a calendar year, or a maximum of five courses to a maximum of $750 per course. Funding will be based on the actual cost of your course and materials.

What can I apply for?
This grant can help cover the cost of tuition and course materials for courses at recognized universities, colleges, and trades programs (including online courses) that result in credits towards a certificate, diploma or degree. This includes both short-term courses (those that take less than three months to complete) and long-term courses (those that are three months or longer)
Is it hard to apply?
You can apply online, just visit gwaiitrust.com/grants to find the specific grant you’re looking for. Our staff are available to assist along the way, especially if this is your first time applying.
When is the application deadline?
Applications are accepted throughout the year. Your application must be submitted no later than either two weeks into the semester or course (long-term courses) or the day before the course starts (short-term courses).

EVENT W
hen 4-year-old Declan Myers took to the stage at the Edge at the World (EOTW) music festival this summer, he stole the show. Singing with Dad’s surf rock band, the Pseudos, and dressed in a ten-gallon hat with a bright orange shirt that shouted “HIGH FIVE!!,” he led the crowd in a fun, inclusive, and very rocking set. One of many great events this summer, EOTW was proudly supported with two Gwaii Trust grants.
The Community Events grant also provided $2,000 to support daily workshops, including Introduction to Haida Language by author, teacher, and Gwaii Trust director, Gidin Jaad Erica Reid (cover). A $10,000 Community Innovation grant, which supports innovative projects that 4 | Gwaii Trust News, Fall 2023

contribute to enhancing the wellbeing of islanders, our communities, and Haida Gwaii, was also awarded to support the cost of renting a professional mobile stage with associated audio equipment and technicians. The Pseudos also received a $9,800 Arts Grant, designed to encourage the development of artistic skills and expression on Haida Gwaii, to support the production of their first album, Surf Bozos: 30 Years of Surf Rock, and also for their music video, Vietnam Flashbacks. We have yet to hear when Declan plans on dropping his first single
