We will also introduce the pastime of mothing. Join us for a look at these wondrously diverse, beautiful, important animals. Outside of insects, spiders are one of the most diverse groups of animals on Earth. New species are being described by biologists all the time, increasing our recognition of that diversity. While some people don’t like spiders very much, they pose little danger to humans. In this class we explore the wondrous diversity of the eight-legged creatures. It was around the 18th century that the term “quirkiness” appeared in the literary arts. The psychological concept of eccentricity is the correlate. Since then, depictions of eccentricity have ranged from “gifted” to “gonzo”. We will look at the traits, behaviors and attitudes of these individuals and see how they compare to the “normalcy” of standard society. You will also take an eccentricity measure and find out “are you eccentric?” Instructor: Mark Meadows Ph.D. Fee: Member $30/Non-member +$10 Classes: 2 CR# DATES DAY TIME LOCATION 6218 5/3-10 T 11-12:30pm LC-IRWD

The Meaning of Constructive Effort NEW!

Gandhi’s dictum that “true work is play” has application to our daily activities and efforts. All efforts have a function, if you choose to see them as such. Individuals can reflect on the relationship between intention and action in a deep way and change the quality of that experience. We can also become more mindful and attentive to our efforts through conscious choice. It has been said that once we lose the knowledge of how to ground ourselves in meaningful effort, we have failed to infuse the secular with the sacred.
