The Pre-Season Bustle
all in Green Valley is barely recognizable to new arrivals from northern states, but after a few years, full-time residents recognize the unmistakable signals. Morning coffee can again be enjoyed on the patio. Queen and American snout butterflies (of which there were astonishing, untold millions this year!) migrate through the valley. Love is in the air for black beetles who march around tennis courts and poolside ramadas looking for luck and snacks. And at GVR, the staff prepare for the return of the snowbirds. Facilities teams are working to complete the scheduled Maintenance Repair and Replacement summer projects. Across the campus, returning snowbirds will find fresh paint, new flooring, new and resealed parking lots, resurfaced sports courts, resurfaced pool decks, and a couple of remodeled locker rooms. Human resources and supervisory staff are interviewing candidates for Customer Service Representatives and Custodians. Supplies are being ordered and—most tellingly— reservations are being booked. In 2019, the last full year before Covid, GVR booked exactly 10,000 rooms. That figure includes 588 socials, but does not include classes. Classes required rooms for 1,045 sessions, each session including between 1 and 9 individual class times. In short, GVR’s meeting rooms are in very high demand during peak season. This is terrific news! It means members are having fun and getting stuff done and that’s what Green Valley
Recreation is all about. It also means folks need to plan ahead and be flexible about when and/or where they get together. Evenings and weekends are pretty good bets, year-round. If you’d like to reserve a room, look for more information at gvrec.org, under the Centers tab. Or email Jody@gvrec.org. This year’s approved caterers are: Dominick’s American Grill (520) 625-2373 Santa Cruz Valley Catering Company (520) 977-4645 Sapphire Catering (520) 622-8343 Sweet Peas Catering (520) 730-7421
Clubs, three-month groups, HOAs, Board, Board committees, and GVR classes all seek spaces for meetings and activities. Plan early and stay flexible for best results!

At the regular meeting of the Board of Directors on Wednesday, September 22, these motions passed unanimously: > The CPM will be amended to
permit members to temporarily display for sale, items intended to assist or benefit those using the facility to participate in the associated activity offered where the wares are displayed. (GVR Administration to develop an operating policy).
> A new Operating Cash Policy
was adopted that will allow the Finance department to maximize investments of operating cash while ensuring adequate cash is available to fund the annual operational expenses of the corporation. GVR’s new CFO, David Webster, gave a presentation on the second quarter financials, using an approach that removes depreciation (from the report, only), to improve Board and member understanding of GVR’s quarterly performance.
WHERE WILL YOU BE? Each year, members face late fees and even collections because their dues invoice is sent to an address where they are not. Where will you be in December? If it’s not where you normally get your dues invoice, please let us know! CALL (520) 625-3440 or visit a customer service office at Las Campanas, West Center, or Canoa Hills M-F 8am-4pm (lunch hours vary).
