DID YOU KNOW?

The Pickleball Center on La Canoa is the only GVR recreation facility built by GVR. As developers constructed neighborhoods, they included rec centers to increase the appeal of the homes built “on spec.” The developers then deeded the rec centers over to GVR, distributing the cost of maintaining the facilities across the wider community. The result is the varied collection of centers members enjoy today, each with a distinctive architectural style and suite of amenities.

Fairfield Homes is proposing to build 337 new homes south of the Canoa Ranch Golf Club in three phases. GVR staff have been in contact with Fairfield about the impact this development will have on traffic at the Canoa Ranch Center. In anticipation of residential growth in the vicinity, the site at the Canoa Ranch Center is designed to accommodate a 12,000 square foot expansion. Building out Phase 2 at Canoa Ranch is not a near-term project, but it is a discussion members may begin hearing and reading about.

Dues payment plan

There is an option for members who do not qualify for a dues waiver through MAP, but will have difficulties paying annual dues in a lump sum. A monthly payment plan is available for qualifying members. The GVR property in question must be owner-occupied to qualify.

If you participated in the dues payment plan

in the past, you must re-apply every year. In November, find the 2023 application at GVREC. org under the Membership Resources tab, or ask at any customer service desk. 2023 applications will be due no later than January 13.

A Letter from the GVR Board President

Many thanks to all who took the 2022 GVR member survey in October. The Board and staff look forward to hearing the results after the holidays. If the survey got you thinking in a wider way about GVR, you might find yourself curious about how the organization is run and what it might be like to participate in GVR governance.

Wednesday, November 9, at 2pm is your opportunity to satisfy some of that curiosity. Join the Nominations and Elections Committee at West Center in Room 2, to learn what Board service entails. The 2023 Board election begins in February. This is the time for those interested in volunteer governance to make a determination about their possible candidacy.

During this informational meeting, current Board members will describe what it’s like to be on the Board of Directors and how much time individuals put into the job. Prospective candidates (like you?) will have an opportunity to ask questions about Board service, committee work, and the election process. Attendees should leave the meeting with a sense of the role that is the best fit for them. If the Board is not a good fit, a committee may be.

This year, the Board has worked cooperatively and productively and we’d like to continue doing so. We are looking forward to meeting you and answering any questions you have about joining the effort. Put November 9th on your calendar at West Center, Room 2, at 2pm. No reservation or registration is necessary.
