Improved Member Services Coming to West Center

On June 26, the GVR Board of Directors gave the thumbs-up to a plan to improve member services: renovate the lobby at West Center.
1. Consolidate business services in a single location Currently, members go to the Administrative Offices for some transactions, and to the box office at West Center for others. The division of services is clear as mud to many members who are understandably frustrated at finding themselves at the “wrong” desk. Bringing all the service desks to a single location will provide a one-stop shop for members to easily buy event tickets, purchase guest cards, replace lost cards, make changes to deeds, or add additional cardholders to their accounts.
2. Improve access. For new members, the Administrative Building is hard to spot, and sometimes harder to park near. In the winter months, the lots are often full even when half the staff park off-site. With directional signs already in place on La Canada and Continental, West Center is easier for new and prospective members to find, and parking is very rarely an issue.
Like all customer services, the workload ebbs and flows through the day. Having a consolidated crew means more opportunities for extra hands to step up to the counter when the lines get long.
The box office expansion planned for this area will not displace any current member activities.
3. Improve GVR’s first impression. There is not much about the Administrative Offices that suggests to new or prospective members that they are about to encounter a menu of recreation opportunities that is truly an astonishing value. At West Center, new members can readily tour a pool and tennis and shuffleboard facilities. They will be able to visit three arts and crafts workshops and get a sneak peek at many other club and class offerings via The Artisan’s Shop. Once in the building, the Events and Entertainment offerings will be on display and there’s a good chance the Table Tennis Club will be having a bit of rousing fun in the auditorium.
Members will be greeted by customer service staff when they enter the renovated lobby. Art, ample seating, and information about the Events and Entertainment programs will provide notable improvements over the current space at the Administrative Offices.

We hope you were able to join us at the Del Sol Clubhouse ribbon cutting on July 4th. It is exciting to try something new and a clubhouse is new to GVR. Let us know what you think about this recreation center. We are still looking at what if any type of food/beverage service can be added and will let you know what we come up with.
The Board met with staff about club space at the West Center. After working through all options, it was decided that staff would look at a plan to increase the woodshop space; give lapidary more room and make the artisans shop larger. The next step is the redesign of the area then meeting with the club officers to get their input. I will let you know as this moves forward.
The Committees have been meeting. Board Affairs under Bart Hillyard has already put forth some changes to the Corporate Policy Manual. Fiscal Affairs is looking at the capital improvement policy and procedure but has not brought anything to the Board as yet. Nominations and Elections is working to find people to run for the board next year. Being a Board member is not for everyone but it can be very rewarding. Contact Nanci Moyo, Administrative Supervisor, at 520-838-0144 for more information on how to join the board. We will add three members next year.
Thank you for sending us your comments. Contact us through board@gvrec.org, come to committee meetings and/or join us for the monthly Board meetings.

1. The west side of the lobby will remain largely unaltered, preserving the gallery space and seating area that members currently enjoy. The central area across from the entrance doors will feature a reception counter equipped with workstations for customer service staff during the work day. This reception counter will moonlight as a refreshment bar during GVR events.
2. The box office will be expanded into the open floorspace on the east side of the main entrance. It will house three offices where members can meet privately with staff for real estate, finance, and inheritance conversations.
The refreshed lobby is set to become a hub of activity, offering a blend of functionality and hospitality. Members can expect a space that not only meets their business needs but also provides a welcoming environment for socializing and enjoying events. Best of all, no significant space closures are anticipated with this project.
Staff will begin pursuing construction drawings and bids in July. Stand by for updates!
The monsoon season in Green Valley is a beautiful yet potentially hazardous time. To enjoy it safely, please follow safety protocols, stay updated on weather conditions, and be mindful of local wildlife.
While GVR staff can’t control the weather or wildlife, they work hard to ensure everyone has a safe and pleasant experience. Closing pools and dealing with insects isn’t fun, so we appreciate your patience during these times. Remember, these measures are in place for everyone’s safety, even if they might be inconvenient.
Staff uses the WeatherBug app to monitor storm activity, providing real-time data on wind speed, direction, and radar images.
They log every lightning strike, and the app notifies them about approaching storms, helping them decide when to close and reopen the pools. You can download the WeatherBug app from Google Play or the iPhone App Store to access the same information.
Following the National Lightning Safety Institute’s guidelines, GVR staff close pools and clear pool decks whenever lightning is detected within five miles. Please leave the pool deck right away when this happens. Since monsoon storms can pop up suddenly, quick action is really important. Pools usually reopen 30 minutes after the last lightning strike, unless another storm is nearby, to make sure it’s safe for everyone to return.
