ADI ARTIST’S RENDERING
EAST CENTER POOL UPDATE Last month, the Board approved the concept plan and Aqua Design International of Tucson was engaged to develop final construction plans. The plans will incorporate findings from Western Technologies, Inc., the firm conducting geotechnical evaluations of the soils in and around the pool and deck. When final construction documents are approved, GVR will distribute a Request for Proposal for bids on a pool that looks like the above illustration.
a 450 square-foot side area for more sedentary soaks and other therapeutic pursuits. The new spa will have capacity for fourteen. Folks with mobility issues will have access to the pool and spa via chair lifts. There will be one lap lane and a deep end so that the displaced Aquabelles can come home and deep water exercise will be an option.
...frequently referred to as GVR’s “therapy Pool.”
Throughout dialogue with members, the East Center pool was frequently referred to as GVR’s “therapy pool.” To retain that highly-valued characteristic, the new pool will again be warmer than other GVR pools. It will be bigger than the original and will include
During the pandemic, demand for backyard pools skyrocketed and construction often takes longer than usual to finish. GVR does not currently have an estimated date of completion, but progress is now steady. Updates are available at GVREC.org, including live video so members can watch the site develop in real time.

JULY 2021
GVR FUN-POOL FLICKS GVR’s first series of Pool Flicks was a resounding success! Staff expected 20-30 people for the first film (Jaws) but more than 70 arrived. Over 100 attended Splash and National Lampoon’s Vacation the following weeks. Everyone came prepared to have a great time. Costumes, floaties, and poolside refreshments helped elevate the mood. Pool Flicks will return in the fall after the monsoon—perhaps with a spooky theme?
FALL POOL FLICKS
SPOOKY THEME AROUND GVR
East Center African Daisies
For years, when (if?) winter rains are sufficient, Green Valley has enjoyed a 3-4 week display of abundant color at East Center in the form of African Daisies. Sadly, this display requires costly by-hand labor to maintain and leaves the landscape looking shabby and weedy when the flowers are not in bloom, eleven months of the year. For these reasons, the Board of Directors agreed with the staff recommendation to reduce the African Daisy footprint at the East Center landscape by 85%. Recognizing that many folks will regret the loss, GVR is offering members free seeds. Stop by the Las Campanas Customer Service Desk (M-F 8am-4pm) to pick up one free packet of seeds, while supplies last.
Clubhouse Parking Lot Update
Resolution of the use and/or ownership of the parking lot at the future Clubhouse on Camino del Sol has been months in the making. Pima
County recently exited the discussions after considering a lease agreement for parking spaces for trail users. GVR and the GVR Foundation (the owner of the parking lot) have now reached a tentative agreement, pending approval of both boards of directors. Watch the weekly e-newsletter for details in the coming weeks. (Subscribe to the e-news from the homepage at GVREC.org).
STRATEGIC PLANNING UPDATE Strategic Plan Next Steps: > The responses from 2,814 survey responses have been compiled and reviewed by the Board of Directors. > The Board has drafted high-level goals and reviewed the mission and vision statements. > Next, the staff will develop strategies and tactics for pursuing those goals, and identify how progress will be measured and reported. > At a work session on July 21, the Board will review the draft plan in anticipation of approving it in the regular meeting on July 28.
Read the survey responses at GVREC.org. The Strategic Planning page is under the Governance tab.
