2022 GVR MEMBER SURVEY RESULTS
Preliminary results are in, and we're pleased to share some of the results here. Thanks to all who took the time to share their thoughts. As you know, the Member Survey is just one way members can provide feedback to GVR so if you weren't able to participate, please feel free to email hotline@gvrec.org, or drop off a written message at any customer service desk or in any suggestion box. Staff are pleased to report that the survey sample group says we are on track with improvements, with plenty of room to keep moving in the same direction.
The sample accurately reflects the attitudes of the wider GVR membership at a 95% confidence level (industry standard) within a 3% margin of error. The sample response rate for this survey was 18%.

DID YOU KNOW?
New! GVR members are now welcome to use most rooms and the picnic areas on a drop-in basis between reservations. Look for a schedule posted outside the door to the room. The gray blocks indicate when the room is in use (they include set-up and tear-down times).
This means members may play the piano, enjoy a hand of cards with a friend, practice dance steps, collate a manuscript—any light use that comes to mind. Please do not host a meal or throw an impromptu party. Apply the wilderness lovers’ ethic: LEAVE NO TRACE. Staff will not set up rooms for drop-in use, but members are welcome to use the furniture provided and return it to the spot where they found it.
Rooms where drop-in use is currently not permitted: West Center (all rooms)
All kitchens
Canoa Hills Mesquite Room Art rooms at East Center and Santa Rita Springs

Only trained, working ADA Service Animals are permitted on GVR property. By ADA definition, Service Animals have been individually trained to do work or perform specific tasks for an individual with a disability.
An increasing number of complaints are coming in about non-working dogs romping on sports courts, creating trip-hazards with flexi-leashes, and even running around on pool decks. Working ADA Service Animals must be under a handler’s control at all times. GVR expects handlers to ensure the Service Animal’s impeccable manners. ADA Service Animals should be harnessed, leashed, or tethered except to perform disability support tasks they cannot perform while those devices are in use.
Therapy and companion animals are not permitted.
REMINDER! Real-time pool, fitness, and pickle-ball usage is now posted on the website. Find the link in the jump-to section of the home page at gvrec.org, or scan this QR code:

A Letter from the COO
At the close of 2022, GVR revived a role many of you may recognize: Chief Operations Officer (COO). This position was last held by Jim Conroy who left GVR in 2017 to direct the Town of Marana parks department. I enjoyed the year I worked with Jim. I admired his equanimity and how generous he was with his time. He was consistent, hard-working, approachable, and determined to resolve concerns as promptly as his workload allowed. Delivering new recreation opportunities to members excited him. He grinned a lot.
I am not Jim, but I sure plan to take a page or two out of his book. My background is in communications (most recently as GVR’s Communications Director), community engagement, and organizational management. Between my fine role model and a particularly suitable resume, I expect I’ll do all right. If I don’t, I expect members will let me know.
I will be working closely with CEO Scott Somers to implement his plans. If you have read the cover story in this month’s issue of GVR Now! you may guess what our focus will be: balancing the member-identified priority of seeking efficiencies against member demand for improved or expanded services. Both sides of that scale will have one scary word in common: change. Change is necessary for improvement, and improvement is clearly what members expect from the staff. To stay abreast of those changes, watch the eblast, Facebook, and bulletin boards for announcements labeled #forGVRmembers. I believe most of them will be welcomed and I intend for all of them to spring from compromise.

2022 GVR Member Survey Results, continued…
HIGHLIGHTS
• Member participation in GVR programs and services remains high. On average, over the past 3 years, the participation rate is 84%. Newer members (1-5 years) report a higher rate at 89%. 76% of members have used fitness centers in the past 3 years, while 14% participated in the Southern Arizona Senior Games.
• 64% of the members rate GVR as providing good or excellent value for their money. 50% indicate that quality and cost are equally important to them.
• One question on the survey listed seven options that members were asked to prioritize. In the top priority position, members selected GVR’s pursuit of greater operational efficiency to ensure members receive high value for their dollar.
• It is commonly thought that two groups are on the rise: year-round residents and working members. However, the data reveals full-time residence is down 6% from spring of 2021, but up 4% from 2018—so basically holding steady. Working members saw a slight decline of 3% since 2018. Ten percent of respondents currently report employment with an even split between full time and part time work.
• Overall satisfaction ratings with GVR services and programs (75% satisfaction) and with staff (73%), continue to be high.
• All recreation programs continue to receive strong effectiveness ratings. Since spring of 2021, the strongest increase in ratings is in GVR’s effectiveness.

FACILITY PROJECT UPDATES
The East Center grand re-opening was a huge hit and the pool is now open for swimming!

It was a great event featuring free food, free mugs, short speeches, and Dixieland jazz by Mike Finkelstein and Friends. While the pool was not completed in time for the Aquabelles to rehearse, the group did make an appearance on the deck while the GVR Swim Club and others braved the 53-degree temps and got right in the water. Even a land shark showed up for the occasion.
HAVE YOU RECENTLY RETURNED TO GREEN VALLEY?
