As we head into 2026, GVR is opening doors, adding space, and offering new ways for members to connect, learn, and take care of themselves. From expanded creative studios and hands-on clubs to wellness services and community gatherings, the year ahead reflects what members value most: practical opportunities, welcoming places, and reasons to come together. Highlights include the newly refreshed and expanded Artisans’ Shop and Metal Arts Shop, licensed therapeutic massage services, the ever-growing annual Showcase, and a full calendar of social events such as the Super Bowl Tailgate Party.
One of the most visible changes is at West Center, where the GVR Artisans’ Shop completed a significant facelift and expansion late last year. The shop is a working retail space run by members, for members, showcasing handcrafted items made across GVR’s creative clubs. Visitors will find work from lapidary, glass, woodworking, silversmithing, ceramics, and other disciplines, all created in home studios and GVR shops. The expanded layout allows more room to browse and more opportunities for artisans to share their work with the community. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm, and it has quickly become a place to linger, look closely, and appreciate the range of talent within GVR.
Just steps away, the new Metal Arts Shop, located beside the West Center tennis courts, welcomed members last month. This purpose-built space adds onto the original setup housed in portable metal structures and provides much-needed room for tools, projects, and instruction. Whether members arrive with years of experience or simple curiosity, the Metal Working Crafts Club offers a supportive environment to learn techniques, work safely, and share knowledge. It is one more example of how GVR continues to invest in spaces that support hands-on learning and creative endeavors. Curious? Come to the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, February 12, at 10am. Members interested in exploring clubs can visit GVRec.org and click on the Clubs icon for a full list of opportunities.
Well-being is also part of what’s new this year. GVR now offers licensed therapeutic massage several days a week in the Mesquite Room at Canoa Hills. These one-hour sessions are designed to support relaxation, recovery, and overall comfort. Appointments can be booked by calling 520-625-3440 or by signing up online at GVRec.org. It is a simple addition that fits easily into many schedules and offers a practical way to feel better as the year unfolds.
A major date to circle on the calendar is March 2, when GVR’s annual Showcase returns, now all day and spanning two centers due to its growing popularity. Activities take place at Las Campanas from 9am to 12pm and continue at East Center from 1pm to 4pm. The Showcase brings together staff, instructors, clubs, and members for a day of exploration and conversation. Visitors can discover new offerings, chat with the Membership, Reservations, and Leisure Education teams, and get an early look at what’s ahead from the Events & Entertainment group. Fitness orientations with GVR personal trainers are available, along with class and club demonstrations for activities such as cardio drumming, line dance, yoga, Tai Chi, pickleball, and more. In the afternoon, you’ll find music and a food truck at East Center. There are also chances to win prizes throughout the day.

GVR Guest Pass Policy Update
To reduce abuse of guest passes and in response to member feedback via a July survey, in November, the GVR Board of Directors adopted changes to the Guest Pass Policy. Member response was immediate and nearly unanimous: the policy changes went too far. In January, the Board again modified the policy to integrate that feedback:
