GVR STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE

THE FIVE GOALS ARE:

• Provide excellent facilities for members to participate in a variety of active and social opportunities • Provide quality services and programs that effectively meet the recreational, social, and leisure education needs of our membership, allocating resources to support the programs • Promote increased involvement of GVR members • Cultivate and maintain a sound financial base that generates good value for our members • Provide sound, effective governance and leadership for the corporation Staff developed objectives and strategies for pursuing those goals, with the end result being a five-year operational road map.

GVR’S REFRESHED MISSION STATEMENT READS:

STRATEGIC GVR

At the regular meeting on July 28, the Board of Directors adopted a new Five-Year Strategic Plan. The plan includes work by the Board, including new mission and vision statements and five high-level goals.

LEADERSHIP

GVR HAS A NEW STRATEGIC PLAN!

GVR

GOVERNANCE

SOUND FINANCIAL BASE The plan will improve continuity as Boards and Committees change from year to year, and will provide a foundation for annual budget development. It will also improve accountability as the plan acts as a transparent and explicit promise to the membership. GVR’s last Five-Year Strategic Plan expired in 2018. Completing a new one was a high priority for CEO Scott Somers when he came on board in January. By May, Zelos, LLC had been selected to facilitate the process and a whole-membership survey was underway. With 2,814 surveys and feedback from 64 focus group participants in hand, Zelos staff facilitated Board retreats to develop the goals listed above. Then they led staff through a series of meetings to flesh out an operational plan to pursue the goals the Board had written. All parties came together to fine tune a draft of the plan on July 21 during a Board work session, and the final product was adopted and approved by the Board of Directors at the regular meeting on July 28.

AROUND GVR

AUGUST 2021

CANOA HILLS CLUBHOUSE

With the recent decision by the Board of Directors to purchase the parking lot, the former Canoa Hills Golf Course Clubhouse at 1401 W. Camino Urbano can be refitted for member use. The building is sound and the location (the view!) is terrific, but a renovation will not be cheap. In order to ensure that the greatest member benefit results, development of previous ideas for the building (Ceramics and Glass Arts Club studios) have been paused until an assessment can be completed. In the end, the 8,400 square-foot Clubhouse and 110-car parking lot will be a valuable recreational asset to the membership.

Along with providing the GVR Foundation (the parking lot seller) with a small office space at Canoa Ranch, GVR will make ten annual interest-free payments in the amount of $11,000. Like the purchase of the building in November of 2020, the parking lot purchase will be funded by the Initiatives Reserve, not the Operating Budget. The Initiatives Reserve is funded from new member and property acquisition fees. Annual dues support the Operating Budget. There will be no increase in annual dues associated with this purchase or the renovation project.

COMING SOON TO ALL GVR CENTERS!

The 2021 Fall Course Catalog and the 2021/2022 Arts and Entertainment Brochure will arrive in centers and online on August 25! Registration and ticket sales begin at 8am, Wednesday, September 1.
