Felting—Fundamental Wet Felting

The basis for making felted hats, garments, sculptures, and more is knowing the ‘how and why’ of wool felts! This beginning wet-felting class teaches how wool can be manipulated and embedded with other fibers and silk fabrics. Not every sheep grows the same quality wool. Some are better for garments, while others are best as a rug or art vessel. The class determines the difference between the wools and estimates the ‘shrinkage factor’. Everyone goes home with the skills and a sample to begin creating a reference book to move into the fascinating world of wet felting, Nuno felting, and more. Advanced classes to follow.

Felting—Nuno-Felted Scarf

Students experience the magic of the softest merino wool passing through silk gauze to penetrate and capture silk fibers that make a warm and beautiful scarf. This class opens everyone's creative spirit to the world of Nuno felting. The mystery of interlocking wool fibers with other fibers quickly grabs the artist’s attention. Students learn about line, shape, color values, and texturing while using the shrinking characteristic known to wool fibers to set the fibers permanently. The class discusses color theory, then applies it to the project. Students leave with a beautiful work of art they can wear or add to a garment. Students move into the art of wet felting—known as Nuno Felting—with a fresh attitude and appreciation of how the process works.

Creating Rain Gardens

Rain gardens provide an attractive solution in a region where water is scarce and outdoor water use accounts for more than half of our residential water consumption. A rain garden is a simple depression in the soil that becomes a watery oasis every time it rains. In a rain garden, the soil is contoured to capture rainwater runoff. This approach adds interest to the landscape and reduces our reliance on groundwater while providing plants with free, high-quality water. Bring an aerial map and/or pictures of drainage issues.

Collapse of the World's Population

Cosmopolitan, technically advanced nations all around the world are showing a collapse of population. The data shows a veritable population implosion occurring in several major nations. Many nations will blink out of existence, their populations to be replaced by people of other cultures by the turn of the next century. It does not matter what type of governance these declining nations are under. Liberal democracy or totalitarian dictatorship, the data is irrefutable. Furthermore, it appears there is no solution to the literal death of numerous nations, in the near future, due to lack of population.

Fitness Program Design $129

Program Design is aimed at members who want to learn to train on their own, but want guidance to move in the right direction safely and effectively.

Unfortunately, bodies change with age, and this can have an impact on function and mobility. Range of motion, balance, coordination and muscle strength can deteriorate over time.

For $129, you receive two, one-hour consultations that will set you up to execute a six-week, individualized training plan on your own.

The consultations include:

• complete assessment

• prime and prep warm–up

• corrective exercise strategies (as needed)

• strength training prescription, and

• cardio prescription

Participants walk through the details of the program and are provided with appropriate form, reps, tempo, sets, and rest periods. The workout schedule is in six-week cycles and based on individual preferences: two-day splits, three-day splits, four-day splits. The goal is to have members become confident and self-sufficient in their quest to reach personal goals.

How to Register for Classes and Purchase Event Tickets

Non-GVR members skip to page 55.

Students may register for classes and purchase tickets online, by mail, by phone, or in person at GVR’s West Center Box Office. Early registration is encouraged to prevent cancellations due to low enrollment. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express).

In the first week of registration, we recommend signing up online to boost your chances of securing a spot in popular classes.

Do not send cash through the mail. If your mailed registration is for a full class, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted if a spot opens. Attend class only after receiving registration confirmation.
