Bring your appetite and your passport, this is no ordinary food tour. Join Borderlandia for a flavor-packed taco trek through Nogales, Sonora. CERAMICS

Ceramics Beginning

This class is a prerequisite for joining the Ceramics Club. Students learn how to prepare greenware and bisque, apply undercoats and glazes, and other techniques. Participants complete three projects, included in the material fee, to take home. Students must be able to attend all classes. Bring an apron to protect clothing.

Introduction to the Clay Studio

This class is a requirement for Clay Studio membership. Participants must attend all sessions to join the studio. The class covers all knowledge necessary to become a responsible member of the Clay Studio by learning the safe use of clay and essential studio operations. Students learn basic hand-building skills while working on projects, but won’t complete projects. Please visit claystudiogvaz.com to view video links prior to the first class. Wear old clothing or bring an apron, a notepad, and a pen/pencil. Tools, clay, and materials provided for use during the class.

Basic Chain Maille Bracelet

BEGINNING LEVEL—Chain maille is the art of adding links of a chain, or jump rings, together to make a pattern for jewelry. Students learn two patterns in forming bracelets and learn about wire gauge, hardness, and shapes used. Materials include: jump rings and clasps. Enrollees should bring at least two pliers (bent-nose and flat-nose preferably). Loaners are available. Club membership is required to use equipment independently.

Basic Wire Wrapping for Jewelry

BEGINNING LEVEL—This class is a prerequisite for more advanced wire wrap classes taught by the GVR Lapidary Club. Students learn basic wire wrapping techniques and complete projects, pendants, and earrings, as well as learning about metal gauges, types of wire, tools, and supply sources. Bring jewelry pliers if possible and a fine-tip Sharpie. Tools are available for purchase. Note: Arthritis sufferers may find working with pliers difficult. There are magnifier lights.

Dichroic Glass Jewelry

BEGINNING LEVEL—Students complete three pieces of fusible dichroic glass. Pieces are suitable for pendants or earrings. The class gives a basic knowledge of glass fusion and dichroic glass capabilities. No prior experience necessary. The class furnishes tools. Students learn skills including cutting, design, fusing, and finishing. Upon successfully completing this class and joining the Lapidary Club, students have the opportunity to attend weekly workshops to further their knowledge and expand their skills.

Lapidary—How to Make a Cabochon

BEGINNING LEVEL—Learn to cut, shape, and polish a stone slab into a cabochon. Class requires walking and standing most of the time to use equipment that uses oil or water. Learn the Torch

BEGINNING LEVEL—Learn forging and annealing techniques (acetylene/air torch) to create a cuff bracelet and a forged pendant. Safety is foremost for this introduction to using the torch to anneal, or soften, metal before forming it. Students are inspired by other club members’ examples of copper, brass, and silver jewelry. This class and club membership are prerequisites for intermediate workshops and the use of equipment offered by the GVR Lapidary & Silversmithing Club.

Make and Take Earrings

BEGINNING LEVEL—Have fun making all components for a variety of earrings. No experience is necessary, but participants should be able to hold a pair of pliers, file, and hammer. GVR Lapidary & Silversmith Club members teach students to use simple jewelry techniques and basic hand tools. Pupils leave with two unique pairs of earrings to wear themselves, or give as gifts, as well as learn more about the opportunities available through this club.

Metal Clay Jewelry

BEGINNER LEVEL—Join this three-and-a-half-hour class, ideal for beginners and seasoned silver metal clay artists. Club supplies fifteen grams of clay, two ear wires or a jump ring, and a friendly learning atmosphere with essential tools available for loan. Beginners craft beautiful earrings or a pendant to take home, while experienced participants focus on their ongoing projects. With a dedicated instructor and one to two assistants for a small group of up to four, students receive plenty of personalized guidance.

Beginning Drawing Jumpstart

This hands-on workshop introduces card makers to the use of card making equipment, techniques, and supplies. Students use the club equipment to create a card ready for giving or mailing upon the completion of the workshop. Introduction to Woodworking: Orientation and Training

Participants learn about the woodworking resources available to members and, through instructor demonstrations and hands-on practice, gain skills in using common woodworking equipment safely to complete a project. Joi Kokedama—Traditional Japanese Living Art Form

In Japanese, Kokedama means “moss ball”. A form of bonsai, Kokedama are fun to make and easy to care for. This workshop is designed for everyone—from beginner to experienced plant enthusiast. Students create Kokedama using a centuries-old technique. Class provides plant, soil, sheet moss, gloves, and care instructions. If desired, bring an apron.

Full Body Barre

Want to strengthen and tone with low-impact movements? Using classic dance positions, the instructor makes a fun workout that will increase flexibility and strength in knees, back, and shoulders. This class is adaptable to individual physical skills and limitations. Students need to be able to stand and move for 60 minutes. A chair and the barre will assist with movements. Outdoor Senior Boot Camp

This class incorporates elements of agility, speed, balance, strength, and endurance in an outdoor setting. Expect unconventional workouts with a variety of props and modalities, including team challenges. Get sweaty! Participants must be able to stand for an hour and a half, go up and down steps, lift weights, and get on a mat on the ground. Super Stretch, Strength and Stabilize

Pickleball SNAP Infusion

SNAP Infusion combines a pickleball skill with essential winning mindset traits, including focus, resilience, selfawareness, team awareness, patience, confidence, and commitment. This approach helps players understand the importance and purpose of each trait. Adaptive Yoga

Poses are adapted to each individual’s ability, meeting the body where it’s at. The class is chair-based, using it as much or as little as needed. An ancient yoga text says that poses should be ‘steady and comfortable’; modifications may help the yogi. Yin Yoga

Want to relax mind and body, sleep better, and gain more mobility and flexibility? The essence of Yin Yoga is to surrender and be passive in poses. The class focuses on postures that release tightness in the muscles surrounding the hips, shoulders, and back. Students typically stay in the poses for three to five minutes to lengthen the connective tissues that surround the joints and increase elasticity. The instructor gives numerous options for medical restrictions. Bring a yoga mat, two yoga blocks, strap, Mexican blankets, and an optional bolster. Learn to use motion-activated cameras to observe animals in the backyard while contributing to wildlife conservation efforts with Sky Island Alliance. Participants gain skills in installing wildlife cameras and identifying the animals captured on film. Students may bring their own cameras or choose from five loaner cameras that are available. Optionally, a wildlife camera kit with everything needed to get started is available for $100. Latin I

Experience an epic journey, discovering the beauty of the Latin language and about the people who spoke it two thousand years ago during the Golden Age of the Republic. Using Wheelock’s Latin as a guide, students explore the language of the Caesars through the eyes of Roman poets, writers, and statesmen of the day. This process develops the Latin language skills necessary to facilitate translations.

Latin V—V for Virgil

This class reads and studies the most famous work of Publius Vergilius Maro aka Virgil, The Aeneid, considered to be one of the greatest works of all time. In the process the class continues to learn the perfect subjunctive verb forms as well as more passive voice verb forms that were started in Latin IV. Sail with Aeneas as he leads to the foundation of Rome.

Poetry was the first language to soothe the soul. Discover the joy, power, and healing of poem making. In a supportive small group, students explore the function of poetry over the forms. Resistance Band Training is a low-impact, safe, and effective way to build strength, improve flexibility, and boost balance, no weights required. Perfect for beginners or those returning to exercise, this small group class offers personalized guidance in a supportive setting. All equipment is provided. Just wear comfy clothes, sneakers, and bring a water bottle. For your first class, please arrive twenty minutes early to get set up.

Complimentary Exercise—Movin’ and Groovin’ to Oldies (Let’s Get Young)

Movin’ and Groovin’ to Oldies is a fun, low-impact class set to the classic hits of the ’60s. With easy-to-follow moves, you’ll boost your heart health, balance, and coordination—all while having a great time. Led by senior fitness specialist Allan Carter, this class welcomes all fitness levels and focuses on staying active in a relaxed, upbeat environment.

Complimentary Power Chair Fitness

Welcome to a fitness class for all bodies! This chair-based class (standing optional) that combines cardio, strength, balance, and flexibility, all from a seated position. Ideal for beginners or those looking to ease into a more active lifestyle, this 45-minute class offers a full-body workout using bands, light hand weights, and exercise discs (or cloths). If you’re ready to get moving but aren’t sure where to start, this is the perfect place. Just bring your equipment and a can-do attitude.

Complimentary Yoga

This complimentary class is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their practice. You’ll learn basic yoga postures that promote alignment, strength, and flexibility, along with breathing and meditation techniques. Moving at a gentle pace, this class helps you build a solid foundation before progressing to GVR’s advanced yoga sessions. Mats and blocks are provided, but feel free to bring your own, and if you have a Mexican-style blanket, bring that too (optional).

Children’s Pool Hours

West Center: Weekdays, Noon–9pm; Weekends & holidays: ALL day

No guest pass required for kids! Children 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Children six and younger must have an adult in the pool with them at all times.

Drop in to Del Sol Clubhouse

Del Sol Clubhouse is a relaxed, drop-in space where GVR members can unwind, socialize, or enjoy a game. Upstairs, you’ll find two 65” TVs, a billiards table, board games, puzzles, darts, foosball, and a cozy café area. The front patio is now dog-friendly, so bring your pup along and relax outdoors. Head downstairs for more billiards and snooker in a spacious, well-equipped game room designed for casual or competitive play.

How to Register for Classes and Purchase Event Tickets

Students may register for classes and purchase tickets online, by mail, by phone, or in person at GVR’s West Center Box Office. Early registration is encouraged to prevent cancellations due to low enrollment. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express).

In the first week of registration, we recommend signing up online to boost your chances of securing a spot in popular classes.

Do not send cash through the mail. If your mailed registration is for a full class, you will be placed on a waiting list and contacted if a spot opens. Attend class only after receiving registration confirmation.

ONLINE–FOR GVR MEMBERS AND TENANTS ONLY

Online registration begins Monday, August 11, at 8am. Visit GVRec.org, click on the Leisure Education to register for classes, and click on Events and Entertainment to sign up for events and trips.

Please note: There will be a small processing fee for each transaction.

IN PERSON

In-person registration begins on Monday, August 11, at 8am. Head over to the West Center Box Office at 1111 South GVR Drive to register for classes and buy event tickets. Please bring your completed registration form, payment, and your GVR card. Cash, checks, and credit cards are accepted.

PHONE-IN

Phone registration and ticket purchases begin on Tuesday, August 12 at 8am. Please provide your name, GVR number, and the class number(s). We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. Call customer service at 520-625-0288 to get started.

MAIL IN

Members may mail in their registration forms as soon as class catalogs are available; however, mail-in registrations will not be processed until after the initial in person registrations have been processed. Please fill out the form completely and include payment. Use separate registration forms for each student. Mail your registration and payment (no cash, please) to:

Withdrawals & Refunds

EVENTS

All sales for event tickets are final. If a performance is canceled, refunds may be issued. We will make every effort to reschedule any canceled performances.

CLASSES

If you are unable to attend a registered class, please notify GVR as soon as possible so we can accommodate members on the waiting list.

Refunds are issued if you cancel your registration at least five business days before the class starts. No credits or refunds will be given for cancellations made less than five business days before the course start date.

Drop-in Policy for Classes

GVR may cancel classes due to low enrollment, instructor illness, or other unforeseen circumstances. If your class is canceled, you will be notified promptly via email and can choose to register for another class, receive an account credit, or get a refund.

For online registrations, the class fee will be refunded (excluding the service fee).

If you paid by cash or check, you will receive an automatic account credit for future GVR purchases. If you prefer a refund by check, please contact customer service at 520-625-0288. If you paid with a Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express, you will receive a credit on your card. Please allow up to fifteen business days for processing.

Drop-ins depend on class enrollment and are not accepted in full classes.

• Confirm the class allows drop-ins by checking the course description, and refer to the course description for any date or location exceptions and for the drop-in fee.

• Pay the drop-in fees to the instructor at the beginning of class by cash or check (made payable to GVR).

• Ensure the class is active by contacting customer service.

• Register in advance to guarantee a spot in the class.

Nonmember Registrations

NOTE: Ceramics, Clay Studio, Glass Arts, and Lapidary classes are reserved exclusively for GVR members.

If you are not a GVR member, you may receive a “Class Pass” and will need to agree in writing to follow GVR policies while attending classes. Registration begins up to fourteen days before the start date of class.
