nlike planned communities, Green Valley’s 120+ Homeowner’s Associations and neighborhoods range from very affordable small condos to expansive and expensive homes. Green Valley Recreation supports this economic diversity by providing all members with equal access to all facilities. The drop-in activities in this pamphlet are open to all members, tenants, and authorized guests, with no additional fee or reservation required.

Please feel free to explore all fourteen of your recreation centers. Each one is distinctive in style and amenities. The facilities summary chart on page 8 will help you find activities of interest. Need instruction? GVR’s education program includes skills courses in many sports and past times, and several clubs offer clinics and routine skill-building opportunities.

Gvr Clubs

Many of GVR’s 62 clubs organize activities using the amenities listed in this pamphlet.

Thirty-three GVR clubs welcome “test drives”— members may join-in a few times to see if the activity or club is for them. If you are interested in sports, crafts, intellectual challenges, or just meeting people, GVR clubs provide great opportunities for low annual fees.

Fitness Centers GVR has six fitness centers equipped with cardio and strength training equipment that varies from location to location. Fitness-minded members are encouraged to visit each center to familiarize themselves with what each offers.

Some have limited floor space for stretching. All have a variety of resistance bands and stretching devices.

At Santa Rita Springs, music is available via a CD player. At all other centers, music, podcasts, audio books, and other media are permitted only via personal head phones or ear buds.

Children aged 13-17 are welcome to use the fitness centers when accompanied by an adult.

Shirts and closed-toed shoes are required.

New Fitness Center in 2023 In 2023, the Desert Hills fitness center will shift to a nearby space and become GVR’s most spacious and complete fitness facility.

It will include an adjacent studio for movement classes and floor exercise. The Desert Hills Center also hosts GVR’s only sauna.

Personalized Instruction GVR contracts with personal trainers who can help you meet your fitness goals, modest or ambitious, in the fitness center or pool of your choosing. Rates vary from $50-$60 per hour.

If tennis instruction is what you’re after, Ray Wardlaw is available for individual or group lessons at $40 per hour. Ray also teaches classes for GVR and can run practices for your tennis team.

Aquatics Fitness center use continues to grow steadily, but the aquatics facilities remain GVR’s most popular amenities. Thirteen centers host pools and spas of various sizes and depths.

Free water aerobics sessions are offered at eight of the thirteen pools. No reservation is required and members may attend in any location:

Bocce Bocce is a growing sport across the country and is a popular game for visiting families.

GVR has four recently upgraded courts at Canoa Hills, with lighting for night play and an adjacent picnic area, complete with briquette grills. At Las Campanas, one informal court has a grit surface.

Shuffleboard Abrego South’s twelve shuffleboard courts are very popular in season. Shuffleboard courts are also located at Casa Paloma I and Casa Paloma II, Madera Vista, and West Center.

Sand Volleyball The sand volleyball courts at Abrego South are available to all members. Other forms of volleyball are played in the pool at Abrego South and in the racquetball courts at Las Campanas.

Horseshoes Abrego South is also home to five horseshoe pitches and a Kubb set. Equipment can be found in the shuffleboard storage sheds nearby.

Billiards Billiards rooms are currently located at East Center, West Center, and Desert Hills. Some tables will move into the new Del Sol Clubhouse late in 2022. Cues and chalk provided.

Table Tennis Drop-in table tennis is scheduled in the Cottonwood Room at Las Campanas Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, from 6pm-9pm and in the Saguaro Room at Canoa Hills on Sundays from 8am-Noon.

Pickleball GVR has 36 pickleball courts in three locations, with eight lighted for evening play. Check the court schedule on the club website (gvrpickleball.org) for court availability. Need a partner? During open play, anyone can “paddle up” to join the next available game. Want to play just with your friends or family? Up to four paddles can be stacked.

Tennis GVR has 17 tennis courts with seven lighted for evening play. Check the club website (gvtennis.com) for court availability. Need a partner? The tennis club facilitates beginner groups and other play opportunities that do not require club membership. Visit gvtennis.com and look for “Drop-In Tennis” under the “Play Tennis” tab.

Racquetball GVR has two indoor racquetball courts at Las Campanas. Racquetball, wallyball, and court volleyball are played here. Check the schedule at the center or on the racket sports page at gvrec.org. Please be sure to wear court shoes that will leave no marks on the floor—those marks are friction points that can cause falls. Want to try out racquetball but don’t have any gear?
