Second anniversary Russia’s invasion of Ukraine Saturday 24th February Ukraine – hanging by a thread “To commemorate and celebrate Ukraine, and to thank the People of Bristol and surrounding areas…an event to raise awareness of the plight of Ukraine and the refugees that have relocated to the South West.”

This event is organised by Ukrainians and is as follows: “On the 24th of February starting at 11.00 we will hold a peaceful march from College Green along the pedestrian area past the Cenotaph, along Nelson Street, Union Street, Horsefair and finishing in the centre of Broadmead to raise awareness of the date and the event. From 12.00 we will be getting together at The Galleries for the main event and will hold a two minute silence to commemorate those who have lost their lives and been injured in the ongoing war. To celebrate Ukrainian Culture there is to be an art exhibition, a Ukrainian Choir, Bandura players, and the other musical performances between the hours of 1200-1500 on the ground floor of the Galleries

White Hart Lodge in Brislington Village

We are delighted to let you know that the planning application for the former White Hart Lodge in Brislington Village has finally been submitted. Proposals include the renovation and integration of the existing Grade II Listed former coaching inn, with the addition of an 80-bed dementia nursing home, and 20 x 1, 2 & 3 bed flats for key-workers. The application is currently pending consideration and you can view the proposals and add your comments here: http://tinyurl.com/2hux9svh

Demolition of local eyesore We are pleased to let you know that an application is due to be submitted to Bristol City Council’s Planning Department for the demolition of the former John Peer site on Bath Road opposite Arnos Court Park. This local eyesore has been attracting considerable anti-social behaviour in recent years and it is becoming increasingly difficult for the site owners, Sovereign Housing, to manage in terms of security risks, health & safety liabilities, if someone were to break in, and business rates liabilities. Due to the historical presence of a bat roost and the need for licenses from Natural England, it is anticipated that demolition will take place in September or October this year. Sovereign Housing also told us they are at the early stages of reconsidering plans for the site, following the refusal to grant planning permission for their original proposals. A public consultation is likely to take place in May with planning submission later in the year.

This Sunday with the bible

Every Sunday we have three short passages from the bible to reflect on. There's usually one from the Old Testament - the Jewish bible as well as Christian; one from the life of the early church after Jesus; and one from the gospel stories of Jesus' life.

Have a read Here Now we are in the time of Lent – lasting forty days (excluding Sundays) until Easter, during which in the early days, adults and families prepared themselves to be baptised on Easter Day. These bible readings are all about trust Relationships are all about trust, especially when someone says to us, ‘trust me’, this is going to happen for you in future, and even more especially when it seems quite unlikely to us. Just as trust is at the heart of our human relationships, so our relationship with God is rooted in our trust that because God loves us, we can trust what God says

It will be supported by an independent facilitator and will take place in St Luke’s church hall. Everyone is welcome, from Brislington churches and the wider community Meet at 7.15pm for Tea & Coffee. Start session 7.30pm prompt and finish 9.00pm Monday 19th February Tuesday 27th February Tuesday 5th March Tuesday 12th March Tuesday 19th March Church Parade, Brislington, Bristol BS4 4LS The Course aims to help Christians think more deeply about what it means to be human. It provides a structured and accessible way for local groups to engage in and reflect on Living in Love and Faith, a major exploration of Christian teaching and learning about identity, sexuality, relationships and marriage. The five sessions of the course each address a key question: * What does it mean to learn together as followers of Jesus Christ? * How does our identity in Christ relate to sex and gender? * What kinds of relationships does God call us to? * Where do our bodies and sex fit into all of this? * How do diversity and difference affect our life together as a church? Each session includes an opening reflection about learning together, followed by teaching, time for discussion and Bible study. Watch the Living in Love and Faith Course trailer
