When we remember those known to us personally or who have died recently on in the past. This is an opportunity to grieve together and to be thankful for lives loved and no longer with us here 5th or 12th November Remembrance Sunday The nearest Sunday to Remembrance Day

11th November Remembrance Day This keeps us in remembrance of lives lost particularly in the First and Second World Wars, but also of the all too many wars in the years since 1945. This year we need to include the victims of Russian war of invasion against Ukraine. We also need to remember the victims in Israel and Gaza at the present time.

Bereavement peer-support group Do you know anybody who would be interested in completing a short free online training course which will guide them through the process of setting up a bereavement peer-support group

in their neighbourhood?

The training encompasses a focus on creating a community peer support group that is sustainable and does not rely on funding. It is based on the successful model of the STAR (Share, Talk and Remember) Bereavement Peer-Support Group in Stockwood Bristol which provides free support for people grieving from a bereavement or difficult transition in their life.

The free course is particularly aimed at local residents who are interested in setting up a bereavement peer-support group in their local neighbourhood Here are the start dates for the STAR Training the Trainers Course, which is delivered via Zoom, and consists of 4 modules each delivered as a 2-hour workshop over a fourweek period. It’s said that our children’s attention span is lower than it was. Whether that’s true or not, the media’s inability, including the BBC, to provide a range of news items across a spectrum of world issues has been woefully on show in recent days.

In Ukraine, 1000 times more hostages have been taken by the Russians than by Hamas in Israel; Russia is firing 10,000 artillery shells a day into Ukraine, civilian deaths, including children have now reached over 30,000, up to 70,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, Ukrainian villages and cities , schools and hospitals, power stations and oil refineries have been destroyed by Russian missiles.

This Sunday with the bible Every Sunday we have three short passages from the bible to reflect on.

There's usually one from the Old Testament - the Jewish bible as well as Christian; one from the life of the early church after Jesus; and one from the gospel stories of Jesus' life.

Have a read Here This week we begin to move towards a change of season, from the long run of Sundays after Trinity back in June, towards Advent, the season before Christmas, today the fourth Sunday before Advent – Advent meaning ‘coming’ and referring to the different ways in which Christians understand the coming of Jesus – into our lives, at our death when we come to him, and at the end of time when he returns

Annual Bereavement Service Sunday 5th November at 3.00p.m.

We will be remembering those who have died, particularly those who have died in the past few years.

The theme of the service will be thanksgiving to God for their lives and the promise and hope of God’s help in Christ. Where we have been involved in the funeral, the names of those who have died from the parish in the past year will be read out during the service and there will also be an opportunity for anyone to remember those whom they have loved and lost.

We do hope that you can come on Sunday 5th November at 3.00pm. and that you will find it a comfort at this time. After the service coffee or tea will be served in church and you are warmly invited to stay. For any who wish, there will be the opportunity too for someone to pray with you more personally.

We welcome you with love and Christ’s peace to you, from all at St Luke’s Church.

Brislington Carers Group We are a friendly supportive group of people who care for someone who has dementia. The meetings allow us time to discuss our caring roles and to feel genuinely listened to.
