Looking ahead to Remembrancetide The first weeks of November are kept as days of remembrance - of war victims, but also of personal loss. The following pages are given to the many events over this period
Looking ahead to Remembrancetide The first weeks of November are kept as days of remembrance. 31st October The Eve of All Saints, All Hallows Eve or Hallowe’en Ist November All Saints Day When we bring to mind and give thanks for all those we think of saints – people who have led lives that have been marked by goodness, whom we sometimes call holy. 2nd November All Souls Day (kept on Sundays 29th October at St Peter’s and 5th November at St Christopher’s). When we remember those known to us personally who have died recently on in the past. This is an opportunity to grieve together and to be thankful for lives loved and no longer with us here 5th or 12th November Remembrance Sunday The nearest Sunday to Remembrance Day
11th November Remembrance Day This keeps us in remembrance of lives lost particularly in the First and Second World Wars, but also of the all too many wars in the years since 1945. This year we need to include the victims of Russian war of invasion against Ukraine. We also need to remember the victims in Israel and Gaza at the present time.
Brislington War memorial clean-up
October 28th at 10am It will soon be time for our annual clean-up of the Brislington War Memorial on Bath Road. Everyone is welcome to join us on October 28th at 10am. We plan to spend the morning, pruning any overhanging branches, collecting litter and giving the whole area a sweep. We will then decorate the memorial with hundreds of knitted poppies donated from our local churches. St Christopher’s Church will also be holding a remembrance service at the memorial on Saturday 11 November, commencing at 10:50am. More details in the Remembrancetide articles

The free course is particularly aimed at local residents who are interested in setting up a bereavement peer-support group in their local neighbourhood Here are the start dates for the STAR Training the Trainers Course, which is delivered via Zoom, and consists of 4 modules each delivered as a 2-hour workshop over a fourweek period. This Sunday with the bible Every Sunday we have three short passages from the bible to reflect on. There's usually one from the Old Testament - the Jewish bible as well as Christian; one from the life of the early church after Jesus; and one from the gospel stories of Jesus' life. Have a read Here This is where our understanding of what makes for a good and just society comes from – Jewish scripture of around 3,000 years ago in what Christians call the Old Testament, and reinforced by Jesus
“You shall not render an unjust judgement; you shall not be partial to the poor or defer to the great: with justice you shall judge your neighbour. 16You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people, and you shall not profit by the blood of your neighbour… and more Here

Annual Bereavement Service Sunday 5th November at 3.00p.m. We will be remembering those who have died, particularly those who have died in the past few years. The theme of the service will be thanksgiving to God for their lives and the promise and hope of God’s help in Christ. Where we have been involved in the funeral, the names of those who have died from the parish in the past year will be read out during the service and there will also be an opportunity for anyone to remember those whom they have loved and lost. We do hope that you can come on Sunday 5th November at 3.00pm. and that you will find it a comfort at this time. After the service coffee or tea will be served in church and you are warmly invited to stay. For any who wish, there will be the opportunity too for someone to pray with you more personally. We welcome you with love and Christ’s peace to you, from all at St Luke’s Church.
