Petition by Andrew Varney and Jos Clark Sign the Petition Here

The West of England Combined Authority is proposing to build a new road along the former Brislington Railway Line, known locally as the Brislington Greenway. Over the last 60 years, the Greenway has become a wildlife haven, with regular sightings of bats, badgers and slow worms, all of which are protected species. Building a new road would destroy this space. Our alternative proposal is an active travel corridor, providing a safe, pleasant, off-road route all the way from Temple Meads to Whitchurch and beyond. This green space would become a real community asset and do a lot more to promote sustainable travel than building a new road!

Petition on Brislington Buses Cllr Tim Rippington (Brislington East), Cllr Katja Hornchen (Brislington East), David Jepson (Campaigner, Brislington West) Since 2019 Brislington has lost its services from Tesco and Callington Road Hospital, Hungerford Road and Wick Road to St Anne's. The St Anne's area itself has no bus service linking it with the A4 corridor and Bristol Temple Meads. We are asking WECA to fund an expansion of both the No 1 and No 36 services, to better service the area and give people real public transport opportunities. We call for the following: 1) Increase the frequency of the No 1 to at least every 10 minutes and modify every second journey to be a 1A serving St Anne's instead of Broomhill. 2) Re-instate the 36 service beyond St Anne's to serve Wick Road, Hungerford Road and Tesco Brislington. If you support our campaign to improve Brislington's bus services, please sign up Here

Marmalade Trust Christmas Cheer Christmas time usually conjures up joyful images of family and friends celebrating, exchanging gifts, excited chatter and delicious food. For some people, however, it can be a dreaded, sad and lonely time. Marmalade Trust understands how difficult Christmas can be for someone who is struggling with loneliness. We don’t want anyone to spend Christmas Day alone if they don’t want to, so we invite them to join us for a free festive lunch on the big day, or a doorstep visit. Members are those who feel particularly lonely and isolated this year, for example, a person of an older age who may have no family or friends around. More about Marmalade Trust: Here

Community Wildflower Planting St. Anne's Park Saturday 14th October Drop in any time after 2.00pm.

We are extending the wildflower patch after its amazing success this summer. Join us to plant new plug plants which have been funded by a council pollinator project. We will also scatter a grassland meadow mix. We've 250 plants to get in the ground so lots of help is needed. Please bring a trowel if you have one. Everyone is welcome for 5 minutes or longer. Friends of St. Anne's Park

Cleaning up our community War memorial clean-up

October 28th at 10am It will soon be time for our annual cleanup of the Brislington War Memorial on Bath Road. Everyone is welcome to join us. We plan to spend the morning, pruning any overhanging branches, collecting litter and giving the whole area a sweep. Hope to see you there.

This Sunday with the bible Every Sunday we have three short passages from the bible to reflect on. There's usually one from the Old Testament - the Jewish bible as well as Christian; one from the life of the early church after Jesus; and one from the gospel stories of Jesus' life. Have a read Here

Jesus’ story about the wedding reads very harshly to us. Here is one helpful unpacking of it But do also read Paul’s letter to the church in Philippi as an antidote to what we too often read on social media: “whatever is

true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things”

Brislington Conservation and History Society "A CROWN OF FRIENDSHIP“ October 26th 7.30 at St Cuthbert's Crypt, Sandy Park Road. Entrance £5 for non members Jonathan Rowe tells the story of Bristol First World War poet, Fabian Strachan Woodley ( 1888 - 1957). Born in Clifton he was a poet, journalist , sportsman and a hero of the First World War, awarded the Military Cross. He was also gay and a Christian. Some of his work appeared in the very first anthology of male same sex love poetry and prose ever published in the U.S.A in 1924.

QUIS UT DEUS ( "Who Is Like God?" )

Written in the trenches of Loos, June 1917. This morning as I walked the winding road, Through villages shell - shocked and forlorn, I marked how every dwelling had it's scar, Nor was there one but was battle torn. Long since the inhabitants had fled away, Only the birds were there that summer morn. And suddenly I spied at the cross ways A crowned Christ upon a cross of pain, Whose eyes, unfathomable utterly , Looked ever out across a shell scarred plain. Behind Him rose the shadow of His house, Which men in substance built - and broke again. Even thus, through every hamlet that I passed It was the same - Christ reigned triumpantly, And men of hate no weapon could devise, To break his cross, or mar his Effigy, But of his goodness He permits them stay To be our Help and Strength eternally.

St Luke’s church

St Luke This Sunday we shall be celebrating St Luke who as a church we are named after. The service will as usual be at 10.00, and will focus on celebrating St Luke and St Luke’s church here in Brislington

There’s a comprehensive description of St Luke Here but in brief: • He was the author of the Gospel of his name and of the Acts of the Apostles which tells the story after the resurrection of Jesus • He is mentioned several times as accompanying Paul on his travels around the Middle East • Paul refers to him as a doctor and in Luke’s gospel he uses various medical terms of all the four gospels, Luke makes most mention of the central role of women and of the poor • Only Luke has two of the most beautiful and well known stories: the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son

What’s on at St Luke’s this week

Operation Christmas Child This is a Christian organisation that not only gives shoeboxes to children with very little. Giving boxes like these is often a way into remote communities where there is very little contact. For £20 per box you can fill a box on line from various choices and for a boy or girl in the age group of your choosing. You can then donate the gift as part of St Luke's group by selecting 'group' and putting St Luke's Brislington in the name box. We are aiming to get 20 boxes donated on line. You are also most welcome to collect a box from St Luke's church on Sunday mornings and make up your own or if you are unable to give so much any cash donations can be made via Rosemary Spada and she will use the funds to make up more boxes on line. Thank you for any support you can give.
