Was Jesus racist?

Here is one of those stories about Jesus which poses a contemporary question - was Jesus racist in calling the Greek (ie non Jew) woman a 'dog’?

Some contemporary commentators say that this was the moment when Jesus realised the error of his ways; but this really cannot be a valid approach and we can read why not Here.

I like the approach which suggests that Jesus and the woman were putting on a 'performance' for the disciples and others present - Jesus with a twinkle in his eye
