The Washington State Ferry System is the third largest in the world and the largest in the United States. Over 2 million riders traveled through the Anacortes Terminal in 2016, venturing to Sidney B.C., San Juan Island, Shaw Island, Orcas Island and Lopez Island. It is recommended for vehicle traffic to arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled time with longer waits for peak summer traffic. Walk on passengers should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to departure. Reservations are required for some of the Washington State Ferry routes.
