UN Item 70-A -75-DR 11- Guyana Voted No!!!

Amanda Walton-Desir, MP and Shadow Minister of Foreign Affairs: Guyana’s vote at the 47th Plenary Meeting of the UN General Assembly in relation to Draft Resolution II – A global call for concrete action for the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance and the comprehensive

implementation of and follow-up to the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, is cause for much confusion.

The obfuscating press release from Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett published on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation only adds to the muddle, and is another clear indication that the installed PPP/C

Administration is yet to come to terms with the fact that in this information age, pedaling half-truths and attempts to insult the intelligence of Guyanese will no longer cut it.

The following are the facts: 1. On November 19th at 3pm, the Third Committee of the UN (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) met. At that Meeting, Guyana

as Chair of the G77 and China Group introduced the Draft Resolution II on behalf of the Group.

2. The Report of that Third Committee Meeting dated 23rd November and which records Guyana as voting in favour of Draft Resolution II, is just that – . It is not the Meeting Record of the 48th Plenary Meeting.

3. , , at about 10:20 am, Guyana locked in a vote of “Against” in relation to Draft Resolution II. Delegations were asked to confirm that their votes were accurately reflected and thereafter the voting was completed and voting machines locked.

The result of the vote was entered into the Voting Records as follows – 106 “in favour”, 14 “against” and 42 “abstentions”.

4. The 48th Plenary Meeting thereafter moved on to consider Resolution IV- the Situation of human rights of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in

Myanmar”.

5. It was after the Plenary Meeting concluded its business in relation to Resolution IV, that the Guyana Representative took to the floor and requested to make a correction to Guyana’s vote, asking that it be changed from “against” to “in favour”.

The Guyana Representative was advised by the President of the Plenary Meeting, H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkir, that .

As at April 12, 2021 the Voting Record on the matter of Draft Resolution II- A global call for concrete action for the elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance and the comprehensive implementation of and follow-up to the Durban Declaration and Programme of Actionshows Guyana as having voted .

8. The Voting Record

will continue to so show until Guyana complies with the procedural requirements to change the vote.

Therefore, for Rodrigues-Birkett to say “I wish to confirm that Guyana voted in support of the resolution when it was adopted in the General Assembly on December 31st, 2020” is downright misleading.

The fact is that Guyana voted no and must now take administrative steps to correct this embarrassment.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation must advise Guyanese, forthwith on whether this process has been initiated and its state of advancement.

The installed PPP/C regime continues to fail Guyana in their stewardship of our international relations.

This propensity for mendacity in matters of our foreign affairs must stop.

HELP IS ON THE WAY FROM GUYANA FOR ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES

Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali

Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo held an urgent meeting to organise assistance to the nation

of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The meeting also included members of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and the Private Sector with the aim of coordinating

an emergency response to help sister CARICOM nation, St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Caribbean nation is grappling with the effects of the eruption of the Soufrière volcano, which

has severely displaced its residents, including a large number of Guyanese.

Guyana is aiming to dispatch relief items over the next 48 hours. The team that met with the President on Sunday brainstormed

the fastest possible route to the islands, as flying is prohibited.

President Ali said that it is extremely important to get the items off and urged those present to put all systems in place to get it

done in the fastest possible time.

This emergency response is expected to be the first of many from Guyana

UG LAUNCHES ZOOM U.S. Military Representatives Visit Guyana for Tradewinds ROOM PROJECT Planning Conference

The University of Guyana on Saturday, launched its ZOOM Room project laying down the first building blocks of its blendedlearning architecture.

The initiative is part of the Stabroek Block Coventurers Greater Guyana Initiative (GGI) to the tune of US$70,000.

The 18 rooms will service 18 different locations across the University’s nine campuses in Georgetown, Linden, Berbice, Bartica and Anna Regina enabling the broadcast of live

classrooms to anywhere with a strong internet connection.

Six ZOOM Rooms demonstrated on Saturday included one at Tain Campus in Berbice; one at IDCE Johns’ Science Centre in Berbice, one at the IDCE Centre in Linden, one at IDCE Centre in Georgetown and two at the University’s Turkeyen Campus –one at Natural Sciences chemistry lab and the other at the Centre for Information (CIT).

ZOOM Rooms

are examples of UG leveraging appropriate technologies.

The ZOOM Rooms will implement planned, and enhance existing, initiatives that enrich the quality and impact of the delivery of tertiary education.

They will also expand the reach of UG’s instructions and the capacity of its classrooms, through facilitating hybrid — inplace and remote – mode of education. The latter is consistent in keeping with the University’s vision.

Military representatives from the United States and 23 partner nations are participating this week in the Final Planning Conference for the Tradewinds exercise, a U.S. Southern Commandsponsored, multinational, Caribbean security exercise.

Tradewinds 2021 will occur in June. It will be held at several Guyana locations. All

A Bel Air Park Woman is wanted by the police over obtaining money under false pretense through the pyramid scheme.

The wanted woman is 33-year-old Keziah Jeuel Roberts of Lot 88 Eping and Ituni Streets, Bel Air Park, Georgetown.

In a statement, the police noted that Roberts is wanted for falsely obtaining monies from

several Guyanese between September 2020 and February 2021.

The force asking the public’s assistance in locating the woman by asking persons with information that may lead to the arrest of Roberts to contact the police on telephone numbers 2253079, 225-3085, 2682328, 268-2298/2222, 226-7065, 911 or the nearest police station.

A 21-month-old baby died after its 18-year-old mother reportedly threw it into a nearby trench because of its incessant crying. The dead baby was Ekron Miguel.

According to reports coming out of the Parika Backdam, East Bank Essequibo, where the incident occurred, it is alleged that just around 16:30 hours at Jango Street, the toddler began to cry after a group of which the mother was a member, was returning from an outing.

Soon after, it was noted that the young mother

later sat at a road corner after she would have visited several residents in the area for some food.

The young mother in the act of asking for help went to a resident’s house, where the man at the residence inquired about the situation and later requested that she hand over the baby since it appeared to be hungry.

This request was denied and the young mother ran from the location but was later caught without the baby.

The police later became involved and that young mother took investigators to a location where she dumped the baby after it began to cry. It was a nearby trench and the baby was discovered motionless.

The baby was later rushed to a nearby hospital, where it was pronounced dead on arrival.

REPORTS OF KIDNAPPINGS ARE NOT TRUE

The large number of missing person cases hitting social media has caused some panic in the country. The Guyana Police Force has said that it understands the concern expressed and that most of those claims are far from the reality of what has been going on in the country as it relates to a missing person.

In a statement, the police said that cognizant of another Facebook post alleging that there is a series of kidnappings occurring in Guyana, they are once more giving citizens the assurance that this is far from reality.

There has not been any report of any kidnapping received by the police within recent times.

In such instances, the force is calling for neighbours and others to look out for each other. At the same time, it is contending that the peddling of this misinformation about alleged kidnappings can result in unwanted tension, anxiety, and stress in society.

The police added said that at the same time they are refuting the allegation that this issue does not appear to be receiving the full attention of the Guyana Police Force.

The police are also

assuring the public that they aggressively dealing with all Missing Person reports in terms of its follow-up action and ensuing investigations.

All police stations in the country are quickly informed of the reports along with the pertinent information.

Adding to this aggressiveness, the Guyana Police Force has established a Missing Person Unit at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters.

This unit has the specific responsibility of assuming the lead role in the investigation of such cases.

TIME TO OPPOSE PPP RACISM—says Aubrey Norton

The PPP has shifted Guyana from a peaceful law-abiding society to one which is characterized by ethnic and political tensions and the reemergence of crime, corruption, and lawlessness as the order of the day.

It bribes Afro Guyanese individuals with the hope of making inroads into APNUAFC strongholds while persecuting the Afro Guyanese communities and APNUAFC supporters, says PNCR executive member Aubrey Norton.

“This strategy would not work. Our people know the reality.”

While the PPP talks about One Guyana, its policies and actions have created two Guyanas, he says in a statement released on social media.

“One of the Guyanas can get Covid 19 relief with the mere presentation of an identification card.

That Guyana is Indo Guyanese and PPP supporters. The other Guyana, Afro Guyanese, and perceived supporters of the APNUAFC are asked if they own the property.

“If they do not they are not given what they are legally entitled to. This is clear ethnic and political discrimination.”

The PPP is back to running Guyana as if only Indo Guyanese and PPP supporters are Guyanese.

All others are to lose property and pushed into, or remain in poverty, Norton contends.

This is just one area of the acts of discrimination that are practiced on the people of Guyana. There are many more, he adds.

“All law-abiding and decent Guyanese and those who oppose oppression must oppose PPP racism. Guyana will not experience development if there are ethnic and political discrimination and concomitant ethnic and political tension.

“Successive PPP regimes have shown that they cannot and will not govern in the interest of all Guyana but in the interest of themselves, their families, and friends.

“It is time to step up the action and confront the racism of this illegitimate and installed government.”

The team onboard the vessel has now initiated a three-phase testing programme.

In an update yesterday, ExxonMobil noted that the team successfully

completed the first two phases, which are intended to verify the effectiveness of the changes to the equipment and control system logic.

Pilot level flare was attained during the

testing and a significant volume of process and mechanical data collected.

The final stage of testing will take place this week after the removal of temporary

instrumentation.

The third phase involves monitoring the performance of the machine closely in normal, steady-state operation.

The gas compressor

had encountered difficulties on the Liza Destiny FPSO during oil production operations on January 27 and was sent for repairs to MAN Energy Solutions in Germany.
