Making ‘achar’ for a living 55-year-old Basmatttie Narine better known as “Janet” is a resident of Miss Phoebe Village, Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice. For the past 35 years, she has made a living selling various types of achars and other local treats by her roadside stand. Her achars come in various flavours such as mango, tamarind, bling-bling (sourie) and she also sells pepper sauce with limes, pickle mango, gooseberry jam, chicken foot and plantain chips (Carl Croker photo).
