Taxi driver busted with cannabis at Demerara Harbour Bridge

A 33-YEAR-OLD taxi driver of Patentia, West Bank Demerara was on Friday allegedly nabbed with 1,361 grammes of cannabis in his possession at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

Police said that acting on information received, at approximately 10:20 hours, a Police Constable attached to the Brickdam Police Station who was on motorcycle patrol at Agricola, went to the Demerara Harbour Bridge where he intercepted motorcar HD 1997 driven by the suspect.

The suspect was instructed by the policeman to stop at the end of the bridge.

The driver, who complied, was approached by the Constable and a Corporal who informed him of the information received and requested to conduct a search. partment has instructed the company that the suspension of work activities in the mid- dle dump of the Montgomery Mine, where the accident occurred, should continue until a reassessment is done for the extraction of the Dozer.

“During the search, three bulky transparent plastic bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in the car’s trunk,” police said in a press release.

The man was told of the offence, cautioned, arrested and escorted to the La Grange Police Station.

The cannabis when weighed, amounted to 1,361 grammes.

The suspect remains in police custody, pending further investigations and charges.
