EDITORIAL WELL, NOW WE HAVE certainty - it may not be the result for which were all hoping, but at least we now know that Stage 4 will continue until at least the 24th October, 2020.

However, as promised, our next show, The Hound of the Baskervilles, will go ahead whatever the circumstances. The whole production will take place under the conditions imposed

by Stage 4, which means a two square metre space between groups of households and so on.

This is quite tricky to arrange and so we have cancelled bookings through Trybooking and are acceptiong them solely through the good offices of our Bookings Officer, Elaine.

In addition to ensuring social distancing the President and Executive Committee hold the health and safety of our cast, crew and audiences as their highest priority so after each performance they have engaged a professional cleaner to deep clean and disinfect the theatre throughout.

Tea and coffee will have to be dispensed in disposable cups and biscuits will be served in individual sealed wrappers. Hand sanitiser will be freely available in the foyer and patrons are encouraged to make use of them.

Patrons are asked to observe social distancing while in the foyer or conversing outside in the verandah or on the lawn.

This is a exceptionally strong cast and with the wardrobe skills of costumier Marjorie de Caux, aided by Colleen Bradford and Sarah-Jane Hombergen-Crute, will be extremely well-dressed as well.

Directed by veteran Douglas Sutherland-Bruce supported by Assistant Director Kerry Goode, this promises to be a production to remember.

Bookings will open on the 5th October and, as Covid-19 Stage 4 will still be in operation, seating will be strictly limited, so bookings will only be available through Booking Officer Elaine on 9378 1990 or by emailing her on Bookings@garricktheatre.asn.au.

If we pass to Stage 5 on the 24th October, then more seating will become available.

So, book early to avoid disappointment.

HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES IT WAS A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT, suddenly a blood-curdling scream rang out. It was a scream of laughter yes, that’s right Teens at Garrick were rehearsing their next production, The Hound of the Baskervilles under the direction of Gail Lusted and Rodney Stickells-Palmer.

The play is adapted, fairly loosely, on the classic novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle by Kent R Brown, who has taken the main thread and booted out Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr John H Watson, replacing them with the two, more usual, protagonists’ close relations - Shirley Holmes, Sherlock’s neice (which makes her Mycroft Holmes’ daughter, I guess) and Jennie Watson, who are minding the shop at 221b Baker Street while they’re away.

Shirley, studying logic, and Jennie, studying medicine, are busy preparing for upcoming exams when there’s a knock on the door. There’s no time to recall Holmes and Watson from their trip. “We’re all you’ve got,” says Shirley. And indeed they are!

In this fast-paced adaptation, full of wailing hounds, thundering hooves, and the slithering mists of the moor, Shirley and Jennie follow the trail of evidence and intrigue until, at last, they are confronted by the ravenous Hound itself!

Shirley Holmes is played by Victoria Abbott and Jennie Watson by Olivia Fellows plus a large supporting cast of adults and teens.

The Hound of the Baskervilles, as a comic thriller opens at Garrick Theatre Club Inc on the 30th April and runs at 8:00pm (and 2:00pm for matinees) at Garrick Theatre, 16 Meadow Street, Guildford until the 16th May.

MEET THE MEMBERS RODNEY ‘RODDERS’ STICKELLS-PALMER RODNEY STICKELLS-PALMER, KNOWN as Roddy or Rodderz around Garrick came late to theatre. A rather terrible experience in a high school production that has been blocked out of his mind left him feeling at odds with the stage.

It wasn’t until his early twenties when looking for a hobby outside of work that his sister, dobbed him in to his uncle, Ken Harris to fill a role in the Garrick Production of Get Smart.

The role started as Agent 44, the one that hides in ridiculous places and has fun props and grew to Extra Lady as well. After opening night he was hooked!

Rod’s passion for theatre and Garrick in particular was conceived through Get Smart, it grew and was fostered by The Charlie Grigorni One Act Season and The Admirable Crichton (written by JM Barrie and directed by the formidable Ailsa Travers).

During these shows he met some truly wonderful and creative people, some of whom with he still works today!

Rodney ‘Rodders’ Stickells-Palmer Odd Couple, Charley’s Aunt, Robin Hood again all at Garrick.

Rod has performed twice at Marloo theatre, Witness for the Prosecution and Farndale’s Macbeth, both times directed by his step mother Gail Palmer, of the well-known theatrical Harris family.

He caught the directing bug and has directed three shows so far at Garrick, Who Knows, A Lady Mislaid and Miranda and is currently directing The Hound of the Baskervilles with Gail Lusted.

Rod has also been a committee member and has a strong passion for the TAG programme and helps Gail Lusted out as much as he can.

Rodders as the Extra Lady in Get Smart

Never afraid to say no to something new Rod threw himself into theatre. Over the years he has performed many shows and in many genres almost entirely at Garrick theatre.

Some of his favourites include Hayfever, Mousetrap, Shock, Miranda, Project Macbeth, Calendar Girls and The Sorting Room. Every show has been fantastic.

He has also worked backstage on many shows working alongside great directors and Stage managers. These shows include Burnt Piano, Light Shining in Buckinghamshire, The
