Hi, Imagine me shaking your hand and giving you a beaming smile.

Welcome back and/or to Purchase. We are Gutter. What is Gutter?

I would say it’s just fun random shit submitted by fun random people (shout out to the raccoon that that’s dictating this to me as I am an illiterate human). My layout editor (who is the phenomenal and talented Bailey Hummel) would say it is the artistic outlet of Purchase that embodies the spirit of our student body. My intern (the brilliant and visionary Mitchell Angelo) when asked said uhhhhh a lot and then that Gutter is a miasma of Purchase talent. I am so thankful they are on my team because, as you can see, they can word well the thoughts of the mind and they are good people.

What I mean to say is that Gutter is everything. Gutter is the weird text your mom sends you when she smokes weed for the first time. It is the poems deemed ‘not literary’ enough for the more formal publications on campus. The art that makes your roommates uncomfortable and the playlists you use to make yourself stop crying at 2am. Gutter is here for you and within these pages I hope you find something that reflects not just the Purchase experience, but your Purchase experience.

I love Gutter because it connects people around campus. It’s both shrouded in mystery (what is Gutter??) and for all to see (we left some issues in the bathroom for those extra-long poos). If you pick up this magazine and have chosen to read this passage (thank you for taking the time out of your day) then SUBMIT TO GUTTER!!! For real, we want to hear what you have to say. No matter who or what or when you are.

leo beautiful sun can i join you please? although i am water and can only move if the air pushes me oh moon lift me! make me into a wave, i’d love to be with the sun where we’ll live out the rest of our days mother earth you say shes hot to the touch? i’ll lift myself up up up and cool her with a kiss and whisper a low hush oh how i yern oh how i pray one day she’ll notice me and we’ll collide one day oh cloud how i wish to be you! once i bring my soul to the surface! i’ll let myself escape! i’ll close my eyes and feel myself start to evaporate i’ll be scared, but i’ll be tempted to open my eyes only to be with the sun, the birds, and the butterflies!

feet clacking to the bass ears ringing cocktail slurping high heels bruising the night singing hotal slogans. pick up line pass as ass shaking glories becomes presently awarded. screeching screams hardly heard through tough amp amplifies beats. pretty talking LOLing perfect people trampling on slippery liquidy substances. intoxicating blurried buried eyes meet my sober slumbered face. presently aware of the scare of Life.
