D. FIRE-RESISTANCE RATED CONSTRUCTION

E. FIRE PROTECTION
1. Smoke detectors shall be provided in each sleeping room, on the ceiling or wall immediately outside of each sleeping room, and on each story and basement for dwellings with more than one story. (907.2.11.2, R314.3)
2.The power source for smoke detectors shall be as follows:
a. In new construction smoke detectors shall receive their primary power from the building wiring and shall be equipped with a battery backup. (907.2.11.4, R314.4)
b. In existing SFD, smoke detectors may be battery operated. (907.2.11.6, R314.4)
3. Carbon monoxide alarm is required per 420.4 & R315.
4. Sprinkler system shall be required for the ADU if the existing dwelling has a sprinkler system.

LIGHTING MEASURES:
A. Kitchens. All luminaries in kitchens shall be high efficacy.
B. Lighting in Garages, Laundry Rooms and Utility Rooms. All luminaries shall be high efficacy and shall be controlled by a vacancy sensor.
C. Other Rooms. All luminaries shall either be high efficacy and shall be controlled by a vacancy sensor or dimmer. Closets that are less than 70 square foot are exempt from this requirement.
D. Outdoor Lighting. All luminaries mounted to the building or to other buildings on the same lot shall be high efficacy luminaries and shall be controlled by a photocontrol/motion sensor combination (with override). See IS0(k)9 for requirements.
· Lighting in bathrooms shall have at least 1 luminaries controlled by vacancy sensor.
· Exhaust fans shall be switched separately from lighting system.
· High efficacy luminaries must be pin based.
