MAGIC SHOW
What is magic? Magic is an intellectual performing art in which the artist convinces an audience that it has witnessed seemingly impossible feats, using natural means. There is nothing paranormal or supernatural about magic tricks—magicians achieve illusions through practiced deception. It is a form of acting in which the artist presents one reality to the audience member, hiding another reality—actions that only they are aware of.
Magic performances Just as there are many kinds of magic tricks, there are also many types of magic performances, from intimate shows where the audience can closely observe the illusionist to big-scale stunts designed for television productions. • Stage illusions.: The magician performs for a large audience in a theater or auditorium, using large-scale props, assistants, and even large animals. • Parlor magic: The magician does tricks for a medium-size audience, positioned on the same level as them, with the audience seated in chairs or on the floor. • Close-up magic: Performing in close proximity to an audience that is smaller than both stage and parlor magic—and can be as small as a single person—the magician uses commonly found small objects such as playing cards and coins. • Escapology: Restrained or confined, the magician breaks free.
• Pickpocket magic: Using misdirection, the magician stealthily takes items such as wallets and belts off of an audience member. • Mentalism: The magician creates the impression that they are mind reading or controlling minds. • Children’s magic: Performing for kids at birthday parties, libraries, and schools, the magicians performs a show that is fun, comedic, and encourages audience participation. • Mathemagic: The magician combines math and magic, typically for children. • Street magic: In this variation of close-up magic, the magician performs on the street, surrounded by an audience, such as the shuffling of three cards in Three-card Monte. Alternatively, they may perform for unsuspecting passersby, as David Blaine is famous for doing.
Magic History Humans have been practicing magic since ancient times, with both honest and dishonest intentions. While some people have crafted and perfected illusions to entertain their fellow man, others have used trickery as a means to control and take advantage of the unsuspecting and uneducated. • We typically think of magic as a form of entertainment, but religions and cults have used magic tricks to frighten and fool unsuspecting people into following them obediently. Society historically associated magic with the devil and witchcraft. • Additionally, unscrupulous practitioners have long used magic tricks to cheat people out of money, giving the illusion of conjuring spirits at séances, or using sleight of hand to cheat at card games or pick pockets. • As a form of entertainment, performers at fairs commonly incorporated magic tricks into their shows until the eighteenth century. At that point, people began to believe less in witchcraft and the art form entered into polite society, where wealthy patrons paid for the private spectacle.
• In the nineteenth century, Frenchman Jean Eugène Robert-Houdin (1805–1871) created what we know today as the modern theatrical art form. Opening a magic theater in Paris in 1845, Robert-Houdin made magic a performance art that people paid to see theatrically and influenced other magicians to transition to permanent stages, which could be built with machinery designed for elaborate tricks. • Taking his name from Robert-Houdin, Hungarian-born American illusionist Harry Houdini (1874–1926) popularized escapology at the turn of the century. Using lockpicking skills, he broke free from handcuffs and shackles in death traps to amaze audiences in the U.S. and Europe. • With the advent of television, with its limited camera frame, editing possibilities, and even planted audience members, magicians found a new platform through which to create illusions for even bigger audiences. In specials and series, twenty- and twenty-firstcentury illusionists have pushed the art form forward and made it extremely lucrative.

Navigation & Layout Vichitra - The magic show underlies the concept of surrealism with a blend of an underwater aura and an added touch of horror. The complete set-up gives the vibe as if one is underwater with bizarre and surreal creatures. Not to forget the acoustics and lighting that give ghastly vibes that is bound to leave the audience dumbstruck! As regards the navigation and layout, there are two ways to get to the main area where the event is going to take place. Firstly, the VVIPs need not make that extra effort to stand in queues because they can rather avail the facility of pods. There are 4 pods in total. The pods will basically act as lifts and help them reach the main area. Secondly comes the normal entrance. The regular audience and VIPs walk through the main entrance, check themselves in by showing their tickets at the reception which is located on the ground floor. Following which they have to wait in queues to enter the main room that ultimately leads them to the area of the event. Once they enter the main room they’ll find a well. They keep walking until it finally leads to the staircase that helps them reach the main area. There’ll be two staircases to avoid unnecessary chaos. On the ground floor, there are two washrooms each for men and women located on either side, i.e., located between Pod 1 and Pod 2 on the left and Pod 3 and Pod 4 towards the right of the entrance. The back side of the ground floor has green rooms.
When the audience enters the main room, the feeling is such that they will feel they are walking from the sky towards the well. This room gives off an eroded vibe and has been made in a way to create this illusion. As mentioned above, the audience will walk for quite some time till it eventually leads to the staircase. And with that they enter the main area. The main area can accommodate 500+ people. The pods that lead to this area are spread across and are on a raised platform and can accommodate over 20 people. The seating style is similar to that one would find in an auditorium, opposite which is the stage. The stage is circular in shape, but it is the semicircle which in the end is visible to the audience. The remaining half lands in the green rooms on the first floor. The stage is divided into three parts - there’s this set of a mountain half submerged in water, then there is a ruined temple and lastly the one comprising a monster. When it comes to the transitioning of sets, it should be taken into account that when one magician has displayed his trick, that part of the stage will go beneath and the next set pops up and the same goes when the third set comes into play.

Set Ideas
Stage Set 1 Inverted Island Set This set is just ahead of the audience when they sit on their seats. This set looks like an inverted Island where all the trees are on the downside whereas its marshy down side has come upwards. The stage where the magicians and performers perform is made in the form of steps on the set which can be viewed from the side angle. The water seems to have come upwards too along with the marshy side of the island which is achieved with the help of holographic projections. The set is filled with statues, artefacts and surreal creatures which are supposed to be found underwater. Just beneath the sets, lies the green room. A part of the set goes down in the second half of the show while the audience feels the exertion, revealing the temples set.

Stage Set 2 The temple set This set lies at the back side of the inverted Island set. In the first half, when the magicians are performing on the island, the temple set seems like as if it is drowned underwater which is achieved with holography projections but when it is the right time, and people face exertions, the temple rises up with the help of the machinery and acts like a complete new set. At the very same time, the part of the island set goes down with the help of the same machinery and the temple set is the centre of attraction. Lights are shifted towards it and magicians perform their performances over there.

Demon and The Wrecks
A giant demon lies at the very back of the temple set with its huge red glowing eyes. The mouth of the demon is open and has many lights fitted to it. The Demon possesses many building wrecks and seems as if he rules the place. He has many goblin and troll followers which lie in the flooring and sides of the circular sets having lights filled in their mouths. The goblins and trolls are half drowning in water too.
Seating arrangement
(The seating arrangement shown alongside is that of Kreeger Theatre.) As regards the seating arrangement for our magic show, we’ve been inspired by that of The Kreeger Theatre in Washington DC owing to the fact that it has ‘flawless sightlines’ which makes it one of the most artist-friendly and audience-friendly spaces. Moreover, such an arrangement will allow spectators to see the venue stage with even more clarity.
Pods The pods are made of glass. They look a lot more like the capsule lifts. Once the pods reach the first floor, with the help of holographic projections, the ones sitting inside will feel as if they are underwater. There’ll be projection of sea creatures both - real and surreal. The seating will be like in the stadium or auditorium. The pods will be at the top. Since, they’ll be far from the stage, that can hinder all the fun. To avoid that, these pods will consist of screens that’ll help the ones sitting inside get the experience of viewing the magicians similar to the ones who sit near the stage. There are 4 pods in total. The glass pod facility can only be availed by the VVIPs. The pods will basically act as lifts. Each pod will accommodate five people. Once all the VVIPs are seated, the janitor(who will attend to their needs) will automatically push the button and take the pod to the first floor, where the main event will take place. The VVIPs need not wait in long queues to get to the first floor. They can drive their car to the pod so assigned following which they have to show the ticket to the janitor. The janitor will then let them to their seats. Moreover, the ticket given to the VVIPs will be different from what the rest will get which makes it even easy to differentiate the VVIPs from the rest.
Material Board
Multisensory The exertions faced by the audience because of their moving seats drives the experience to another level. They feel as if there is an earthquake and fill them with adrenaline. The holographic projects on the sets and digital screens on the ceilings add a different layer of virtual reality and surrealism. Sounds of people drowning in water to sounds of creatures swimming underwater and sounds related to demons and water are used in the performances and in the sitting area to increase the engagement. Electronic perfumery will be used which has a radical impact on health, well-being and the way users experience things in everyday life. The perfumery system has the ability to choose from an entire palette of scents changing over time according to the people’s feelings and mood.
AU BORD DE L’EAU L’Artisan Parfumeur Au Bord de L’eau Eau de Cologne A powdery blend of bergamot and crisp citrus lemon make up this scent. Inspired by a fresh body of water, this light and airy perfume smells like the shore, but better. Never overpowering but still very much present is the vibe of this scent. This perfume is used to give the feel of underwater. We want people to experience every bit of the performance. The perfume levels up the experience.
Lighting Spot
It is best suited for our magic show as our set contains different levels and spot light is the only light which can make the audience concentrate on a specific ground. The spot light is probably the most well-known of the theatre lights. It is used to highlight a character or element on stage and can be accompanied by coloured filters. The light is used to draw focus to the character or element it is highlighting and can be used to separate a character from the backdrop and characters around them often for an important piece of dialog or to emphasise the action, emotion, or expression of the character.
Strobe
A magic show requires drama and it can be achieved using strobes. Used for special effects, a strobe light is a flashing light, the effect it provides can make the movements of individual actors and actresses appear jerky. Strobe lights are used as special effects. They should be used sparingly and are not overly common although when used well and in moderation they can produce amazing results and add a much deeper tone to what is happening on stage.
Fresnel
With a softer edge than a spotlight a Fresnel is used in similar ways to its more striking, sharp-edged spot light counterpart with the exception that they are typically used for backlighting or top lighting. It is used alongside spots on our sets to give an edge to the magicians and performers
Track Lights
Maximum flexibility with a track lighting system that adapts to the unique demands of temporary exhibits and last-minute lighting design adjustments. Spotlights mounted on track can be easily moved without tools and without specialized help.
Flood
Flood lights give off wide angled, clear light. It can be used in our sets where a wide part of the set needs to be clearly visible to add to the storyline. Shows can’t be completely dark..
Accent Lighting
Accent lighting brings out the intention of the performer when it comes to their performance. It’s about how you illuminate a specific area to show it at its best. In arts and culture, accent lighting creates the contrast required to draw attention to the specific points of interest.
Facade
Flooring and ceilings The ceiling of the show is designed to give a real-time high-tech experience to the audience. The Ceiling has every element that describes the theme completely which is having the elements of surreal, horror and even underwater at the very dame time. The furniture is hanged from the ceiling which seems like as if it is drowning in water. The surreal creatures like the combination of jelly fish and human face, snakes head can also be viewed on the ceiling with help of holographic projection and in-built digital screens in the ceiling itself. Cages hanged also bring about the sense of horror and mystery. The audience feel like as if they are sitting inside the Noah’s arc which has been modernised obviously as it seems to be underwater because of this high-tech driven ceiling. Giant surreal underwater creatures are also viewed from the same ceiling. Coming on to the flooring, the horror and underwater elements are achieved using digital screens again and epoxy Resin. Sculptures seem to be drowning in water which is achieved using Resin. Digital screens help in achieving the underwater effect which also has surreal creatures in it.
