This document is a concise report of the eight weeks of summer internship, starting from 1st, June, 2021 to 2nd August, 2021 that I underwent at WFWA. The objective of this Internship is to ease students into the routine of an Industrial work environment as well as understand the operations performed by the respective company. The document talks about the company, our role as an intern and the projects that have been done. The document contains all our immersive experiences, advanced learnings, work ethics and how it evolved as a designer throughout the straight 8 weeks.

Abstract NIFT teaches, and has provided us with a bridge but we are the ones who have to cover the distance of that bridge to get to our destination. Industrial Internship is a bridge provided by NIFT to understand the basic process and structure of industry. We blend our knowledge and class learning with Industrial operations using the tools that were academically equipped with the bachelor of Fashion Communication for instance graphic designing, photography, branding, digital illustrations and marketing.

In 8 weeks of internship, I covered the bridge’s distance and reached the destination. Since measurements were important, designing a document was the only way to measure every step that was taken to complete the distance. How did I take my first step? Was the bridge wobbly? Or how did I tackle every problem? This document is the after and before experience of my life. This document mentioned every single detail of every step,limitations projects, responsibilities and moreover learnings.

Limitations

Due to the rise of the 2nd wave of coronavirus, during internship, WFWA did not allow employees, staff and interns to visit the office. I did work from home.

Lack of exposure to the In-office environment and experience was a big limitation of this internship.

Brief & Requirements Morning meetings, team stand ups, and brief requirements from other team members, as well as requirements from the founders, are all common occurrences.

We drew out as many ideas as we could.

To conceive, develop moodboards, and inspiration boards, only a couple of sketches may be required.

I was hired as a graphic designer. I designed social media posts, banners, brochures, designed logos, did animations and so on. I was new to the industrial environment though the experience was all virtual . Sometimes I was asked to take interviews. My responsibilities increased with every new task I got. I was trying to complete every task on time and expectations were high.

After getting sketched done, 3 logos were finalised by the design team and then digitization was the next step and here are the digitised logos. Every team member gave feedback and even voted for further exploration.

Here is what it looked when it completed but something as off it kind of have some missing element.

The depiction of the logo

The idea came when my brain reminded me of those hands who carry plants carefully which depict protection and affection for the plants. That was my inspiration for designing a droplet like shape and a hidden hand like structure when the drop shape connected with two branches or should I say tech lines. The middle line here is designed to show growth and plant’s leaves are also designed in the logo to show the agricultural part and growth. and how is that? How are the leaves showing growth? So here I kept one top leaf smaller than the other which shows the transition of growth. and gives us hope for endless growth and protection. Sum up all, this logo shows care for people, farmers. protection and growth or revolution of new agricultural industry.

Color explorations Firstly, the color variations of the logo were totally based on previous exploration. Then none of the logos stood out from them. Then I constructed the color palette from scratch.

On the basis of keywords (technology, agriculture, space, water and leaves) I researched, on the bases of colors wheel and color psychology I made a color palette.

Br i e f The brief was simple design a logo for Mine and minerals brand and decide a name for the same.

Decide a name for a brand This was a team task and we did meetings for the same. It took 2 meetings in a day. The brand’s USP was provided? The name should be Bold. Strong, and tech based as well. Because the USP of brand is providing an online consultancy regarding mine and minerals and Mine planning and mine budgeting to bring tech in mining, tech in small mines, to get them rid of traditional mining, survilliance and drones.

Bringing tech in mining is the future of mining. converting unorganised sector to organised sector. And we brainstormed and finally by the end of the day we got a name for the brand.

Logo Designing The brand personality should reflect mining worlds. Deep, Bold, rough and strong. I gave the idea of a mascot logo. I did bird and animal research. I came up with very suitable birds and animals for the brand.

WOODPECKER it is.

Woodpecker has strong claws, a stiff tail adapted for climbing and a hard chisel-like bill for bearing to woods for insects. It has all the properties to represent this brand.

This time the color was not decided by me. Though, I did make color variations of the logo. There is one logo that has a silhouette of a woodpecker and that woodpecker stands on a wood. some could find or experience a hammer which represents mining.

Hence, here I tried to play with negative space.

I did more explorations but those explorations was just typo explorations. One of my team mate also exploring the logo with me and on his design I tried some font explorations.

Feedback: The logo and ideation was good. But the look and feel was not there, it should have looked bold and strong. The logo variations was good but the logo is more towards minimalism and these kind of design give look and feel of luxurious brand.

WFWA As I already mentioned what WFWA is all about? I wanted to show all the ventures of WFWA, every service that can be provided. The story was simple. I gave ideas and found ideas. I present a presentation of other companies’ banners like Google, Apple, Kellogg’s, Unilever etc.

Since the WFWA is vast and a parental company. I think a lot about how this brand can stand out. Can I do experiments or just make it simple? simple as in 2D, 3D, Isometric or 2D with texture?

Here is my first Idea. In this banner I actually wanted to show some shapes and our brand tagline in that banner. Tagline is the strongest part of brand personality.

Consumers sometimes relate with brand taglines instead of brand names.

Br i e f Since the posts were going to be designed for the first time for any wfwa’s brand. So, the animation posts were needed for MEDZGO social media.

How we decided what should be in the first post? Well that

was not my job actually. But I did took part in ideation but my task was to create graphics and animations. Social media team decideded what should be in post 1, in post 2, and in post 3.

Post 1: In post 1, wanted to create a curiosity timer post for the

Medzgo coming soon website. The first post was about timer’s post. It kind of showing the time that Medzo has come alive.

Letsgoonatour logo design

Br i e f The logo should reflect happiness. Our first and last priority is customer’s happiness. The long or short journey won’t make any effect unless our customers are happy. Our brand will ensure that you will keep smiling always whenever you’ll travel.

Keywords Compass, Location icon, Aeroplane, GO must be there, Google map arrow, sun, water, and foot.

Compass in logo, because the compass is used on land and water and it is the most imp. equipment for travellers.

Direction bars can also be used in the logo because travelling is irrespective of NEWS. To represent land water and sky travelling in our logo we can show these types of elements.

Learning & Experiences One of the most important things I’ve learned throughout my internship is how to establish my own personal design philosophy and fully explore it as a professional.

Another thing I learned was how to widen my horizons in terms of utilising my skills in various tasks. I learnt to execute important tasks and decisions enforced upon me by completing them dutifully and with great favor.

Team involvement is a vital quality that should continually be improved, especially in corporate culture. I learned to collaborate and appreciate the perspectives of my coworkers and teammates, and to work in accordance with them.

Exploration is an important part of the academic process, and gaining work experience is a great way for students like us to become acquainted with a profession that we want to learn more about.

Working for a start-up firm like WFWA has provided me with numerous opportunities to expand my skills in areas such as graphic design, social media, marketing, and user interface design even I started learning techlanguages like HTML, CSS AND Javascript.

This internship helped me in gaining a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses. And I’ve discovered that I like graphic design, but my passion is in the area of branding and advertising. I will, however, continue to design graphics.

In advertising world and in branding I can bring my ideas and stories into real world. Graphic designing will help me visualising my ideas and might get those ideas a better platform as well.

All in all, my learning at NIFT helped me to make my internship successful without any difficulty.
