Highland Outdoors open new channels

Following on from last month’s acquisition of Rovince, Highland Outdoors has added two further signings, Triggercam and Aguila Ammunition.

Highland has announced an exclusive new distribution partnership with shooting giants Aguila Ammunition, Latin America’s foremost ammunition maker and one of the world’s largest producers. Aguila has been in business for over 60 years and offers a full range of ammunition, including rimfire, centrefire and shot shells, and hundreds of skus on its books. Its quality and consistency make it the ammunition of choice for several law enforcement and military agencies around the globe.

In 2011, Aguila partnered with TXAT to begin a facility-wide modernisation and optimisation initiative. This project has helped redefine their ammunition production and reliability and has also increased their distribution in North America.

Highland’s other signing, Triggercam, specialises in rifle-mounted camera tech that is fully synced via the Triggercam app and acts as a targeting aid when out in the field.

Triggercam allows you to analyse those seconds before you pulled the trigger and what happened subsequently. Whether you are shooting a .22 calibre at 50 yards or a .30 calibre at 1,000 yards, Triggercam will allow you to relive the moment and learn from it. Triggercam features include:

• Multi-purpose utility for shotguns, pistols, bolt action rifles, airsoft, lever action rifles or anything with a barrel or picatinny mount.

• Military grade design, engineered to withstand unforgiving conditions.

• Wireless streaming via the Triggercam BSP mobile app for instant shot analysis.

• Quick release mountings for interchange between firearms with a barrel and picatinny mounts.

• High definition slow motion replay 4 x (1080P 100/120fps) / 8 x (720P 200/240fps)

BGA beefs up its people

British Game Assurance (BGA) has further strengthened its position by appointing two new Regional Development Officers to help the notfor-profit organisation reach more of the country’s 5,000 shoots and game farms.

New recruits Sarah Broomhead and Sam Phillips are responsible for encouraging all shoots and game farms to embrace self-regulation and register for auditing, as well as for looking after existing members to ensure they are kept informed of BGA news. The BGA has set itself a target of auditing 20% of shoots and game farms by the end of 2026.

Norfolk-based Sarah joined BGA from SAI Global, where she worked as a BGA auditor for two years. She says, “I am very excited to have started my new role with the BGA. It has become apparent since the Hunting Act in 2004 that ourtraditions are under constant threat from ill-advised government regulation. The time is now to put aside our differences and pose a united front for game shooting. We will lose all that we hold dear if we cannot prove to the outside world that we are able to regulate ourselves and to shoot as sustainably and as ethically as possible. Here at the BGA we are working so hard to create a market for assured game; a fairer world, where our hard-working gamekeepers and shoot managers can receive a financial premium for game produced to the highest standard. I am here with my colleagues to answer any questions about the scheme, guide you through your audits and help with your shooting queries.”

Leicestershire-based Sam is an experienced game farmer and gamekeeper. “I am also thrilled to have started my new role with BGA. I was a game farmer for six years, rearing thousands of pheasants a year, and I’m still a gamekeeper. I wanted to work for BGA because I think assurance is vital to the future of our sector. Game farmers have a very important role to play as they are the beginning of the game shooting process. If you start off right with assurance it leads the way for others to follow.”

NEWS IN BRIEF

Still Crowing

Wild Justice has launched a fresh legal challenge to shooting. The campaign group announced via its social media channels that it was going to challenge the licence that allows the protection of game birds from corvids.

On its blog the organisation said, “After receiving legal advice, Wild Justice sent a formal legal letter to DEFRA as the first stage of a challenge of the lawfulness of GL42. Unless we receive a legally watertight and convincing response to that letter we will proceed to seek permission for judicial review of DEFRA’s decision.”
