headscarf, turtleneck, skirt and bag: Fashion should empower us whilst ensuring those who make our clothes are not disempowered. I do this by trying to be as sustainable and ethical as possible. The skirt is a hand-me-down from my mum’s friend; the turtleneck is from an outlet and still take great care of. The bag is designed by Telfar Clemens who creates gender fluid items using vegan materials. The headscarf was handmade in Turkey and got when I was on holiday there.

Black Grecian gown. Diadem, wig and veil. My favourite item of clothing was the first dress I bought from a charity shop in Partick named Emmaus. The first dress was a black Grecian gown. I remember seeing it and suddenly I was transported to another era.It reminded me of where in Greek mythology, the sorceress Medea held unbound knowledge of Magicks known and unknown, and was a divine being in her own right. Like myself, in that moment, Medea was reborn.
For me, the first dress I bought in Glasgow means a lot. It means a step, a small step that day, but a giant leap in months to come, when it came to reclaiming the right to express my gender in my own terms. It was the first step where I regained agency, autonomy over my body. And for me, living through the pandemic with transphobic parents, this small step of freedom was a significant leap in the way of liberation of my body in a land, a country where I felt I could express my gender identity the way I wanted to. I wore this Grecian gown with a tiara I brought from Claire’s, a veil I found from the clothes swap that took place in the Pink Peacock Cafe in South Side, a black scarf from Primark and a pair of good old Doc Martens.

Jeans from Depop. These jeans have been a staple in my wardrobe and buying them second hand meant they were much cheaper than retailed. I wear them on every night out as they go with almost everything.
LENA
black vintage top, second hand jeans and second hand Nike shoes. The top I’m wearing is my mum’s top that she used to wear in the 2000s. The brand name on it is ‘Ducati’, which is a motorbike brand; I’m very passionate about motorsports so I love wearing it. I bought my jeans from a vintage shop in 2020 and I wear them all the time, becoming may favourite pair.
