2021 Small Business Leader of the Year Irving Rodriguez Gyroville Coral Springs Irving Rodriguez is currently the owner/operator of Gyroville, a fast casual Mediterranean restaurant in Coral Springs, FL. He and his wife, Maria, opened the franchise in May 2020 in the same city where they have resided since moving to Florida in 2014. Mr. Rodriguez was born and raised in New York City. Upon graduating from the NYC police academy at the top of his class, he rose through the ranks eventually being promoted to Sergeant in 2002. During his time as a Detective, he was involved in the 9/11 recovery mission that required him to sift through rubble to identify victims of the attack. He also worked in the Street Narcotics Unit and Organized Crime Control Bureau, where he managed a team of Detectives and undercover officers. Mr. Rodriguez retired from the NYPD in 2008. The next few years of his life were spent doing private security while he waited for his wife, Maria, to complete her NYPD career. They chose to “retire” in Coral Springs, Florida where they could spend time with family. It was during this period that they became interested in Gyroville. After months of due diligence, they decided to move forward and open their own location on University Drive in Coral Springs. Irving has spent the last two years working on his business while becoming a very active member of the community. From his membership in the Chamber of Commerce to his strong ties to First Responders, Mr. Rodriguez epitomizes what it means to be an active participant in the community where you live and work.
