EDUCATION FOR TODAY

The 12 elementary, three middle and three high schools that serve the students of Coral Springs are public schools within the Broward County School District. Additionally, residents support six private schools, and the Coral Springs Charter School (for middle and high school students), which was recently expanded by 12,000 square feet to make way for an Arts and Music section.

The Coral Springs Charter School has received an “A” rating for the past 11 consecutive years. The school also offers a number of innovative programs, including the ACE Academy, which integrates accelerated academics with professional mentoring from corporate leaders.

Throughout the city’s schools, diverse curriculums have been designed to equip our students for the 21st century. Schools deliberately keep their

grade groupings tight to help children live up to their potential at all phases of the educational journey. Parents applaud this direction by consistently giving the schools five-star ratings in overall quality, principal leadership, teacher quality, extracurricular activities, parent involvement and discipline. Approximately 25 percent of the city’s population has earned a bachelor’s degree or higher, that is in part to the many advanced institutions located throughout Broward County.

& TOMORROW

The majority of the schools in Coconut Creek are part of the Broward County School District, highly rated, and the 6th largest in the country. To assure Coconut Creek maintains the benefits of a small town, the City is actively involved with our schools. We facilitate quarterly meetings between school principals and city officials to ensure that our schools are the best they can be.

Coconut Creek is also home to the Education Corridor. The City sought grants for the construction of multipurpose paths and transit facilities to create a unique, safe transportation system that connects more than 20,000 students from four schools over a two mile section of roadway in the southern portion of the City. This “linear campus” fosters co-enrollment and the sharing of resources among Atlantic Technical High School/ College, Dave Thomas Education Center, Coconut Creek High School and Broward College. Coconut Creek High School, in partnership with Atlantic Technical College, offers dual enrollment in post-secondary courses creditable towards a degree at the University of Florida, a top ranked public research university. Broward College’s north campus is conveniently located along the Education Corridor and hosts not only the Junior Achievement of South Florida Huizenga Center, but also the College Academy at Broward College. This program provides for an immersive dual enrollment experience for outstanding high school students eager to earn a college degree while still in high school. Located in the far northern portion of Coconut Creek is North Broward Preparatory School (NBPS). NBPS provides personalized instruction designed to address each student’s individual learning style, goals, interests and strengths. NBPS provides a strong academic program, complimented by excellent fine art and athletic offerings and a commitment to service and leadership. Students are prepared to enter their first choice college or university and meet the challenges of the complex world they will inherit. As part of the City of Coconut Creek’s community outreach, the City has established an Education Advisory Board comprised of six community members whose purpose is to act in an advisory capacity on matters relating to educational issues that will impact the quality of education for residents. School safety is our highest priority. In addition to fully staffing all of our public schools with School Resource Officers, Coconut Creek has a special officer. Her name is Taylor. Taylor is an adorable black Labrador Retriever who is specially trained to sniff the air to detect guns and ammunition. The technology is called “Vapor Wake”, and Taylor is the first such trained dog working in Broward County Schools.

We have recently expanded our programs and extended our hours to meet the needs and schedules of our community.

They have an 8,000 square foot contemporary gallery that changes exhibits about every 8 weeks exhibiting

contemporary works from artist near and far. The Museum host classes and workshops for all ages, camps, outreach, and events. They are growing and look forward to having you in the museum more and more this year!

In late 2003, the Coral Springs City Commission passed an ordinance creating a new Public Art Program —to bring art out of the museum and into the community, on roadways, in front of buildings, parks, city squares and in lobbies. Art is at the center of the new City Hall, with new featured artist installations every six months. A wide range of music also fills the air on the great lawn of City Hall – featuring music festivals like Bites-n-Sips and UnPlugged.
