Dear Friends,

It is with enormous joy in my heart, and more than just one tear in my eye, that I bid you WELCOME to the new Gulfshore Playhouse at the Baker Theatre and Education Center! This dream come true has been a long time coming. When I moved to this city twenty one years ago and saw there was not a professional self-producing theatre, I decided to start one. Even as the idea was forming there were already questions: where to start, what to produce, and how could we possibly build a state-ofthe-art cultural center as our permanent home? The application for the 501(c)3 required I state my short and long-term goals. Short term: put on a play. Long term: THIS. I still possess the twenty-year-old ink-jet printed, water-stained piece of paper. Ask me and I’ll show you. What I envisioned back then and the reality of the building we’re in now are strikingly similar, only off by a few seats here and there. I had no idea how it would happen, when it would happen, or where it would happen…although I kept stepping out on the balcony of my apartment across the street in Bayfront and visualizing a theatre coming out of the land right exactly where we are now. Here’s what I did know. I knew that if I kept the dream alive in my heart, and put one foot in front of the other day after day, the dream would one day be realized.

That’s where you came in.

We produced our first play. You came. We produced another play. You came and you brought more people with you. We asked for help, and you contributed. We told you about the big vision, and you supported this theatre in grand fashion. Together, we made this dream come true.

The goal has always been to build something beautiful, grand, artful, and fierce. To create an icon that would serve the city with engagement and rental spaces, peaceful gardens, and beautiful architecture, as much as it would serve up ART. Every choice we made was in service of the theatre and education we are here to produce. Every day my team and I are working tirelessly to serve you and all those in our region with world-class theatre at the highest level and incredible unique educational opportunities - a place to gather, meet friends, have drinks and great conversation…a place for you to call YOUR home for professional theatre.

Here we are! The stage is set and it’s time to shine. I sincerely hope you enjoy the show.

With gratitude,

Thank you to our Supporters

Director's Note

“Doors and sardines…that’s what it’s all about...That’s farce. That’s theatre. That’s life.”

Welcome to the madcap world of Noises Off—a play about putting on a play, where things spiral delightfully out of control. At its heart, this “super-farce” by Michael Frayn is a celebration of theatre itself, with all it’s divine messiness, backstage drama, and the sheer determination it takes to (hopefully) make magic happen on stage. It plots a brilliant accumulation of mishaps, near-misses, missed cues, missed costumes, misunderstandings and missed steps.

What makes this show even more enjoyable to me is that Frayn decided the production is being created as a tour of the provinces. Which means that the troupe will be creating within their ranks a kind of temporary “family,” but they will also be isolated in towns and small villages all over England without the emotional connection to family and friends. From my own personal experience (National tour of “1776” for 6 months in 1972), this can be a recipe for disaster: I think I remember that by the end of the tour, there were 2 divorces, one very quickly arranged marriage, a midnight trip to the emergency room for a broken nose, and 3 firings for misbehavior. We started out as a congenial ensemble, but by the end we couldn’t wait to get away from each other. This special theatrical pressure cooker is a perfect context for entropy and comedy: the inevitable combustion that happens when too many fragile egos collide in a small space.

But as you watch the mayhem of Noises Off unfold and fall apart, I hope you’ll not only laugh— because you will—but also appreciate the love and resilience that theatre folk bring to their art. This is not just a play about “actors behaving badly,” but a play for anyone who’s ever dared to dream, to create, who failed spectacularly, and tried again anyway. After all, the show must go on. Even when you cannot remember where you put that plate of sardines.

of Gulfshore Playhouse. She founded the Playhouse in 2004, after moving to Naples from New York City.

Under her leadership, the Playhouse has grown to a staff of nearly 100, an annual budget of $12M with no debt. She led the charge to create a $72M state-of-the-art Theatre and Education Center at the gateway to downtown Naples. As part of this project, Coury ignited a public/private partnership with the City of Naples, donating an acre of land upon which to build a public parking garage. While in New York, she worked on Broadway for Walt Disney Theatrical’s production of Beauty and the Beast, both nationally and internationally, and for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s company, The Really Useful Group, working on Sunset Boulevard and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Kristen made her feature film directorial debut with Friends and Family a comedy starring Tony Lo Bianco, Anna Maria Alberghetti, and Tovah Feldshuh, which was released around the US and Europe. Kristen has directed several new works, produced a CD, and worked on a variety of musicals in various stages of development. About the Author

Robin Housemonger (Author) was born in Worcester Park, Surrey, into a family "unremarkable in every way except for an aunt with red hair who used to sing all the high twiddly bits from The Merry Widow over the teatable." He claims to have been the world's most unsuccessful gents hosiery wholesaler, and began writing "to fill the long hours between one hosiery order and the next." He turned this experience into his very first play, Socks Before Marriage, which ran in the West End for nine years. Two of his subsequent plays, Briefs Encounter and Hanky Panky, broke box office records in Perth, Western Australia. Nothing On is his seventeenth play.

About the Creative Team & Cast

Lloyd Dallas (Director) "read English at Cambridge, and stage-craft at the local benefits office." He has directed plays in most parts of Britain, winning the South of Scotland Critics' Circle Special Award in 1969. In 1972 he directed a highly successful season for the National Theatre of Sri Lanka. In recent years he has probably become best known for his brilliant series of Shakespeare in Summer productions in the parks of the inner London boroughs.

Dotty Otley (Mrs. Clackett) makes a welcome return to the stage to create the role of Mrs. Clackett after playing Mrs. Hackett, Britain's most famous lollipop lady (Ooh. I can't" 'ardly 'old me lollyup!') in over 320 episodes of TV'S "On the Zebras." Her many stage appearances include her critically acclaimed portrayal of Fru Såckett, the comic char in Strindberg's Scenes from the Charnelhouse. Her first appearance ever? In a school production of Henry IV Part I - as the old bag-lady, Mrs. Duckett.

Belinda Blair (Flavia Brent) has been on the stage since the age of four, when she made her debut in Sinbad the Sailor at the old Croydon Hippodrome as one of Miss Toni Tanner's Ten Tapping Tots. She subsequently danced her way round this country, Southern Africa, and the Far East in shows like Zippedy-Dooda! and Here Come les Girls! More recently she has been seen in such comedy hits as Don't Mr.Duddle!, Who 's Been Sleeping in My Bed?, and Twice Two Is Sex. She is married to scriptwriter Terry Wough, who has contributed lead-in material to most of tv's chat shows. They have two sons and three retrievers.

Garry Lejeune (Roger Tramplemain) while still at drama school won the coveted Laetitia Daintyman Medal for Violence. His television work includes Police!, Crime Squad, Swat, Forensic, and The Nick, but he is probably best-known as 'Cornetto', the ice-cream sales-man who stirs the hearts of all the lollipop ladies in "On the Zebra."

Selsdon Mowbray (Burglar) first 'trod the boards' at the age of 12 - playing Lucius in a touring production of Julius Caesar, with his father, the great Chelmsford Mowbray, in the lead. Since then he has served in various local reps, and claims to have appeared with every company to have toured Shakespeare in the past half-century, working his way up through the Mustardseeds and the various Boys and Sons of, to the Balthazars, Benvolios, and Le Beaus; then the Slenders, Lennoxes, Trinculos, Snouts, and Froths; and graduating to the Scroops, Poloniuses, and Aguecheeks. His most recent film appearance was as Outraged Pensioner in Green Willies.

Brooke Ashton (Vicki) is probably best known as the girl wearing nothing but 'good, honest, natural froth' in the Hauptbahnhofbrau lager commercial. Her television appearances range from Girl at Infants' School in "On the Zebras" to Girl in Massage Parlour in "On Probation." Cinemagoers saw her in The Girl in Room 14, where she played the Girl in Room 312

Frederick Fellowes (Philip Brent) has appeared in many popular television series, including "Calling Casualty," "Cardiac Arrest!," "Out-Patients," and "In-Patients." On stage he was most recently seen in the controversial all-male version of The Trojan Women. He is happily married, and lives near Crawley, where his wife breeds pedigree dogs. "If she ever leaves me," he says, "it will probably be for an Irish wolfhound!"
