The romance between Kayleigh Seymour and her future husband, Jacob Anderson, started the way many relationships do — a meeting at church. Kayleigh began attending Michael Memorial Baptist after her freshman year in high school and joined the youth choir. The choir director thought Kayleigh and Jacob could make beautiful music together so she requested that they do several duets together. “While singing with him, I could feel such a strong connection,” Kayleigh recalls. “He was the most handsome man I had ever laid eyes on and he loved Jesus! Talk about the full package.” However, the two never pursued a relationship during those two years at the church. But fate put that back together again after they both were accepted for the Mississippi Baptist All-State Youth Choir. “I got tons of butterflies knowing I would be able to spend some extra time with my crush,” Kayleigh says. “During the weeks leading up to us going on tour with the choir, I started to get sick and I knew it wouldn’t be a good idea to go. I felt like the Lord was telling me I needed to stay home. I passed up the amazing opportunity to travel throughout Mississippi and do what I love most — sing. Within that same week I got a call from Jacob saying he wouldn’t be able to be a part of the All-State Choir either because his boot camp date got moved up by four months.” Then fate intervened again. “A few weeks later, our entire youth went on a weeklong trip to South Carolina. I kept noticing Jacob look at me, but he would look away if I looked at him. He was a very outgoing person and loved to be the center of attention, yet this whole week, he didn’t say one word to me.” Well, they returned home and Jacob worked up the nerve to text her a week before departing for boot camp. “I got a text message from THE JACOB ANDERSON. He asked if I could meet him at Marble Slab so he could talk to me about something that has been on his heart,” Kayleigh shares. The two met for nearly four hours, and “Jacob told me how he felt like the Lord was telling him to pursue me. He told me how he could feel the same connection I felt when we would sing together. He prayed with me and for what would eventually become a strong relationship. He told me a little bit about how difficult a military relationship would be. He informed me on how there would be NO communication, other than letters, for the next three months. Before leaving the ice cream shop, he asked me to think about everything and to consider pursuing a relationship with him.”
That final week, they hung out every day. “We ate out, we went to a festival, we led worship together one last time before he had to leave, we laughed, we cried, and, if I’m being completely honest, we fell in love.” “He left that following Sunday. As he pulled away in a van with about 10 other recruits, tears filled my eyes. I knew in that very moment, that this would be the man I would marry.” Jacob returned from North Carolina to see her graduate from high school and a day later invited her to his parents’ home. “He said he wanted to spend some time with me. We drove around the Coast and talked, but I noticed he was being very different. He wasn’t talking as much as usual and his face lost color. He pulled into Marble Slab, where our relationship started, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!” Kayleigh and Jacob were married December 30, 2016. Jacob is a Marine and Kayleigh plans to attend college to become a teacher. VENDORS Photographer: L. Moshe Hawthorne and Michele Viverette met during their freshman year of college in 2003. Moshe, known as Jabbar to most people, had heard several of his friends talking about Michele and couldn’t wait to meet her. “Although we didn’t share one class together, we quickly became acquainted with each other at school and hung out often in between classes,” Michele recalls. “I remember going home telling my mom all about Jabbar — particularly about his sense of humor how he had such an ‘old soul.’” She says Jabbar would never admit it, but she was a pursuer when it came to who would make the first move. “I got his number from a friend and randomly called him one night and we talked for hours, which turned into all night! Our first date was the usual dinner and a movie.” Jabbar, of Gulfort, helped to introduce more of the Coast to Michele. “He exposed me to so much culture and lifestyle of a Southern Mississippian! It was very refreshing to be in the company of someone whom you mesh well with and feel extremely comfortable and secure with at the same time. Whenever meeting someone new, he introduced me as his ‘fiancé’ every time! It never failed. Guess when you know... you just know!” The actual proposal came during the holiday season. “Sitting at home one day, Jabbar came up with an idea to have a holiday gathering/brunch at a local restaurant with family and friends annually,” Michele shares. “Of course, I supported his idea immediately! Family and friends are very important and who wouldn’t love some holiday cheer over amazing food and spirits! He quickly compiled a list of invites and the project was underway!” Michele woke up the day of the gathering feeling slightly discouraged. “It had been raining overnight and on and off throughout the morning. I tried to convince Jabbar several times that we should reschedule and that it wouldn’t take much for me to send a friendly text to everyone. He disagreed, saying that some have already confirmed that the weather wasn’t a factor. So now I had no choice but to go — great! I finally gathered myself and got in a better mood and we were off to the restaurant. We arrived at Frenchies of Ocean Springs. Everyone started to pile in with smiles despite the gloomy day.” Of course, Jabbar had a secret plan that he was determined would not be derailed by the weather. “Jabbar thought it would be a great idea for the both of us to stand in front of all our guests and thank them for coming out,” Michele recalls. “So after being told by a family member and close friend to ‘shut up and get your butt up there’ — obviously they were in on the plan — I joined his side and just kind of sweetly smiled as he spoke. Next thing I know he was on one knee asking for my hand in marriage in front of family, friends and the entire restaurant!
“I was excited, nervous and timid at the same time. I remember yanking on his hand telling him to get up! Most say they knew the entire time from the moment he planned the gathering. I was completely blindsided! “And to think I thought life was good before! At that moment, he made our lives complete! Now he could really call me his fiancé!” Jabbar is an admissions specialist at Virginia College and owner of Hawthorne Enterprises, and Michele works part-time at Hancock Bank and is pursuing a second degree at William Carey University. The couple took a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, for their honeymoon and they are looking forward to celebrating their oneyear anniversary in St. Lucia. www.gulfcoastweddingsmagazine.com | Winter/Spring 2017

Gulf Coast tradition for almost 48 years. We provide high end social and wedding catering as well as corporate catering. As a chef for 35 years, I am capable of most genres, but I specialize in Creole, Cajun and Gulf South cuisine with an emphasis on service, quality and presentation.

I grew up in the business, but after high school I sought out another path. I have a BA in Communications and was planning on being a political speech writer or motivational speaker. However, my personality is more suited to being in a kitchen. I have worked for the Conrad Hilton Corporation, the Ritz-Carlton, and several independent restaurants. I worked for a company that managed restaurants and nightclubs for celebrity sports figures. I worked in the restaurants and nightclubs for Mike Ditka of the Chicago Bears and Whitey Herzog of the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball franchise.

— Naomi’s Cake Castle, a retail store selling cake decorating/candy-making supplies and special-order cakes, including wedding cakes. The catering was added while I was in college. When I took over, I sold the bakery to focus only on the catering brand.

Jasmine is pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center - Jackson, MS. She currently holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama A&M University. Korian is a personal trainer and substitute teacher on the Coast. He holds both a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Masters of Sports Science Degree in Sports Health & Fitness from the U.S. Sports Academy. Jasmine and Korian’s love story began their 8th Grade year at Biloxi Junior High when they met in Mr. Harper’s science class. The two lost track of one another after Jasmine decided to pursue competitive tennis. The high demands of playing competitive tennis resulted in her having to leave public school to become home-schooled instead. Meant to be together, the two reconnected after college through Facebook. Korian asked Jasmine

which movie she’d like to see. He wanted to see Thor but didn’t want to suggest that one. To his surprise, Jasmine exclaimed “Thor!!!!” and it has been love ever since. Korian began the planning stages of his proposal months in advance; first asking Jasmine’s father for his blessing. He originally planned to pop the question at the end of January, 2016; however, the logistics didn’t seem to work out. Korian believed a Valentine’s Day proposal seemed so unoriginal for such an extraordinary woman. This led him to choose a date eight days prior. Jasmine’s sister Denise, however, was expecting to see Korian on Valentine’s Day since this is what was originally mentioned. Korian even went so far as to encourage both his and her friends to help him with his big scheme. It was February 6th, 2016. Going along with Korian’s final plan, Jasmine’s friend encouraged her to dress up to go out. To everyone’s surprise, with one of Jasmine’s favorite tunes—“So High” by John Legend—subtly serenading the room, Korian unexpectedly showed up at Jasmine’s place and proposed on the spot. Afterward, the newly engaged couple had dinner with friends. After their May nuptials, the couple plans to honeymoon for a week in the Dominican Republic. Congratulations to the Bride & Groom!

From a practical perspective if you are not an organized person, you should immediately hire a planner or a consultant to help guide you through the process. Many planners on the Coast also do full service design so you can have your cake and eat it too by telling the designer what you want and letting them assist you with all of the details. In some cases, a caterer or reception venue coordinator can help you with some details (linen choices, rental items, room layouts or seating plans). But generally, you want your chosen vendors to focus on what they are good at. These are the items you should deal with immediately because in most cases, there are limited options depending on the size of your wedding. During this time period you should: 1. Book your ceremony and reception venues

6. As soon as you’ve settled on the date, send out Save-the-date cards. Remember that everyone you send this to will need to be on your final guest list. Save-the-date cards are really only necessary if you are planning your wedding over a major holiday weekend or if most of your guests live more than an hour or two driving distance from your selected venues. 7-9 MONTHS 1. Purchase your dress. 2. Select your wedding party’s attire. Dress availability and alterations can take up to six months so start this item as soon as possible. Have your guys fitted for their tuxedos as soon as possible as well. 3. Set up your wedding website, hashtag and handles. 4. Register at a minimum of three major retailers with online offerings at least one local gift registry store. 5. Plan for your out-of-town guests. Reserve a block of hotel rooms at several different hotels with varying price points. These hotels should be as close to reception location as possible. 6. Settle on an invitation design and begin the proofing process. Your invitation may go through several renditions before it’s just right, so give yourself plenty of time. If you are planning on having your invitations hand addressed, hire a calligrapher now. 7. Start planning the honeymoon. Make sure your passport and any necessary shots are up to date if you will be traveling out of the country.
5-6 MONTHS 1. Meet with the officiant and then plan your ceremony. If you are required to attend counseling or attend classes related to your particular faith, begin these as soon as your officiant says to. 2. Arrange transportation for yourself and any guests. 3. Order your cakes. 4. Start your day-of timeline. Work with your planner and other vendors (DJ, photographer) to schedule any special moments you want to be sure are documented.

4 MONTHS 1. Buy the shoes you will wearing and bring them to your first dress fitting. 2. Purchase your veil. 3. Plan a hair and make-up rehearsal with your stylist. Make sure they are available for your big day. 4. Visit your DJ’s website and peruse his play list. Make sure let him know what songs you definitely want (especially your first dances) and more importantly, those you don’t want to hear at all. If you are planning on live entertainment, make sure they can perform your first dances or have the availability to play them digitally. 5. Plan the rehearsal dinner. Settle one the guest list and reserve the venue. 6. Finalize invitations and place the order. Some processes can take up to four weeks to print, so give yourself plenty of time to make sure they are in the mail six weeks before the wedding date.
3 MONTHS 1. Don’t leave your toasts to chance. Ask a select list of people to give toasts or speak at the wedding or rehearsal dinner so they have time to craft a well-considered speech. 2. Plan the program and readings so your readers will have time to rehearse. 3. Second dress fitting. Plan to purchase your undergarments this same day. 4. Finalize the orders of the ceremony and reception 5. Print programs 6. Purchase wedding rings

7. Meet with your planner or other wedding pros and finalize your day-of schedule. Type up the timeline and send it to all of your vendors (this includes photographer, caterer, baker, decorator and church coordinator). The more you plan, the less stress and drama there is on the day of. 8. Finalize the menu and flowers 9. If you are having a number of out-of-town guests, plan welcome gift bags. These need be as simple as a bottle of water, a few snacks and a list of some of the more popular tourist sites where you live.

Change up date night with dancing lessons. Dancing to your first dance several times with some expert guidance can help ease those jitters. 4. Plan your photography shoot list and then meet with your photographer to make sure he/she knows exactly what moments you want captured.
6. Confirm times with all vendors. 7. Purchase bridal party gifts to be given at the rehearsal dinner. 8. If you are writing your own vows, give yourself plenty of time for revisions by beginning that now.

The groom paying for the bride’s bouquet is an interesting concept and something that is staging a bit of a comeback. We think it’s a sweet gesture, but not commonly done here on the Coast.

This is one of those instances where the rules are out the window. Weddings are expensive and in lots of cases, the bride, groom, her parents, his parents and sometimes aunts and grandparents are paying these expenses.

Not sure how it is in the rest of the country, but here in the South, there is a committee of ladies that put together all types of showers and little parties. This is the case here as well. The hostesses will plan the menu, provide the decorations and generally have fun cooing over the bride and her attendants.

This item and the one just above about boutonnieres, while a good idea, is more about practicality and cost savings. We who live on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi are very lucky to have an abundance of fresh blooms available to us all year long. There are a number of factors that contribute to this. One is our proximity to major floral growers and importers. Another is we have a number of casinos that require large quantities of flowers so there is a local wholesaler. And finally, our climate makes it easy to get freshly cut flowers from all over the world into our market without worrying about weather delays. You can literally look at a bloom in Holland today and have it on your doorstep tomorrow. However, just because we can have beautiful tropical blooms in the winter, for instance, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use the traditional colors of each season. Take a look at our list of flowers and colors by season if you are wanting a seasonal look. Most everything in each season is available all year round though.

When Paresh Pande and Bhakti Patil were married on July 30, 2016, in Biloxi, it was a magical day filled with precious moments that honored love, family and tradition. “In Indian weddings, the bride and groom don't see each other in the first 15 minutes of the wedding,” Bhakti says. “We're separated by a curtain held by two members of the family. The most special moment of our wedding was when that curtain was pulled and we got to see each other in our wedding attire. This was the start of our journey together.” When it came time for the reception, the couple had quite a surprise for their guests that paid homage to their Indian culture in a unique way no guest would ever forget. Following their first dance as husband and wife, Paresh and Bhakti celebrated their marriage with a Bollywood dance performance that was one of the most memorable moments of the night! From large to small, every detail was covered to create a glorious day full of remarkable memories, and the couple acknowledges none of this could have been done without family and friends. “Our wedding day couldn't have been possible without the love, support and planning by our families, especially Paresh's mother Vijaya Pande, who strived day and night for over a year to make this the happiest day of our lives,” Bhakti says. “Also, we couldn't have planned such a beautiful event without
our close family friend, Peggy Ryland.” The couple’s love story began a few years ago when they met at a party. After a couple of dates, one thing led to another and Paresh and Bhakti realized the very special bond they shared would be a lifetime adventure. In the fall of 2015, they scheduled an outdoor photo shoot to capture some pictures together with the beautiful seasonal colors, but Paresh had something else in mind. “The weekend before the shoot, after getting home from dinner, Paresh called me into our bedroom. There were candles lit everywhere, flower petals on the bed and the floor, a bouquet of roses, champagne and a box of chocolate covered strawberries,” Bhakti says. “In the middle of all that, there Paresh was, down on one knee holding the most beautiful ring I had ever seen. Both of us just stared into each other's eyes, tears of joy rolling down our cheeks. I couldn't believe this was happening! He asked me if I'd marry him and I said ‘Yes!’ The next day's fall photo shoot became our engagement photo shoot!” The couple honeymooned at the Sandals' Emerald Bay Resort in the Bahamas — “seven days full of romance, fine dining and colorful cocktails.” Currently, they reside in Illinois where Paresh is an attorney at law practicing criminal law at a private firm and Bhakti is a scientist working at a bionutrient company.

BE SURE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER KNOWS WHAT IS MOST SPECIAL TO YOU As you go about planning your wedding, you will come across tons of advice, tips and tricks. You will find lists galore. Lists like “the Top 10 c eremony readings” or “awesome fl wer ideas” or “1,001 reception ideas.” You’ll see many variations of the best photo shot list, but take heart, they are mostly the same shots and if you hire the right photographer. Just make sure he or she c aptures the most c ommon highlights and then outline the extra special details you want. Here are other suggestions that will ensure you get the best photos representing your big day. • A solid timeline of wedding events. Inc lude c eremony times and highlights and make sure this timeline inc ludes the names of your bridal party and important family members. For the rec eption part, actual times (e.g.: “8:12 — first dance”) are less important than an order of events. Your planner will help you stay on track and will make sure all parties needed for the photos are present. • Have a meeting with your photographer to go over exac tly what is most important to you. For instanc e, if your veil was worn by your grandmother, you will want to be sure your photographer knows this so they will make sure it gets the attention it needs. • Don’t burden your photographer with too many details like handing them a list with 100 “must have” photos. Of that 100, probably 75 of them are obvious. You want your photographer foc used on the events around you, not focusing on a piece of paper. While it may seem really obvious what photos you want, sometimes a list does help narrow what is most important. Laurel Dover White and Daniel James Riley were united in marriage at five o’clock in the afternoon on May 7, 2016, at First United Methodist Church in downtown Gulfport. Reverend Claire Dobbs and the Honorable Carter Bise performed the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Ms. Barbara Brown White of Gulfport and Mr. David Michael White of Jackson. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Betty Dover Brown and the late Mr. Hollis Ray Brown of Gulfport, and Mrs. Helen Babin White and the late Mr. Charles Julius White of Fayetteville, North Carolina. The groom is the son of Mrs. Virginia Mary Riley and the late Mr. James Patrick Riley of San Francisco, California. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martin Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Adam Riley, all of San Francisco, California. While entering the sanctuary, wedding guests were seated to musical selections from a traditional classic repertoire. The prelude and nuptial music were performed by organist Jeanie Pollard. The chiming of the hour announced the arrival of the bride, who was presented in marriage by her parents and escorted down the aisle by her father to the prelude from “Te Deum” by Charpentier. The bride wore a gown custom-designed by Olia Zavozina in Nashville, Tennessee. The gown was made of French Alençion lace and featured a dramatic sheer V-neckline defined by delicate scalloped edging that continued into a deep V-back. The fitted bodice was accented with an ivory satin sash cinched in a bow. With her gown, the bride wore a sheer cathedral-length veil. The bridal bouquet was a hand-tied mix of white hydrangeas, peonies, and calla lilies. Bolls of cotton emphasized the southern sentiment of the bouquet, which was also textured with tulips, spray roses, and dusty miller. Attending the bride as maid of honor was Kathryn Duval White of Nashville, Tennessee. Bridesmaids were Kelli Marie Walker and Pamela Janise Galvin of Nashville, Tennessee; Kristy Lynne Smith of Charleston, South Carolina; and Rachel Barbara Noto of Tampa, Florida. Each bridesmaid wore a full-length charcoal luxe chiffon gown featuring a classic bateau neckline. They carried bouquets of white hydrangeas, a variety of pale pink and white peonies, dusty miller, white roses, calla lilies, and tulips.

Sean Patrick Riley of San Francisco, California, brother of the groom, served as best man. Groomsmen were Rich John Walter Meier of Kuaia, Hawaii; William Daniel Grove of San Antonio, Texas; Leo Joseph Peak of San Francisco, California; and Christopher William Fallon of Prescott Valley, Arizona. Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride hosted a reception at the Gulfport Yacht Club where guests feasted on some of the bride and groom’s favorite coastal dishes. The couple’s first dance was to “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne. The wedding cake was a four-tiered Italian cream cake iced with intricate lace details and adorned with an “R” on the top layer. Sitting atop the cake was a silhouette of not only the bride and groom, but also their beloved black lab, Nova, representing the whole family. The groom’s cake was his favorite—carrot cake—decorated with the logo and colors of his favorite home-town team, the San Francisco Giants. Both cakes were provided by Jacqueline Ladnier of French Kiss Pastries in Ocean Springs. After dancing the night away to the music of Nightshift Sounds & Entertainment by Marcel Lanoux, the bride and groom departed under a canopy of navy blue and orange shakers, a nod to the bride’s alma mater, Auburn University, before being escorted away in an antique 1970s Rolls Royce. Before leaving, guests received a “sweet” token of appreciation for their love and support with a special treat from the couple’s city (Nashville, Tennessee), Goo Goo Clusters—the first combination candy bar ever made. Jean McGrury with After the Proposal Wedding & Events was the wedding coordinator and provided all of the beautiful floral arrangements. On the eve of the wedding, the couple hosted a rehearsal dinner at Corks and Cleaver in downtown Gulfport. Following a honeymoon in St. Lucia, the couple is at home in Nashville, Tennessee.

If you’re already well-traveled, choosing a honeymoon destination is an exciting opportunity to discover a new place where you can begin building a lifetime of shared memories. A decent hotel on a beach is not enough for this special trip. Your honeymoon is the chance to learn something new, explore new cultures and become more knowledgeable about people and how to make a difference in our world. For months, I have been working with a couple to plan their destination wedding, and though we had every last detail down to perfection, the bride was feeling that something was missing. She really liked the idea of giving back to the less fortunate, and I suggested that they consider Pack for a Purpose (www. packforapurpose.org). They asked their guests to pack 45 pounds of luggage in their suitcase instead of the allowed 50, so that they could bring pencils, soccer balls, toothbrushes and notebooks to the local children. Five pounds times 54 guests was 270 pounds of life-changing donations!
