Sparta a come!!!!! MOVE !!!!! Trouble Trouble now!!!! ARUHHH !!!!! Welcome to the Mighty Land of Sparta. ABC was established in 2011 and since then we have been steadily paving our own path in the university space. Our vibrant colours, orange and grey, coupled with our resounding chants ensures that the Spartan pride is always felt no matter the occasion. At ABC Hall, we live by the code : “No Spartan Left Behind”, so even though we are small in numbers, we are big on family.

PRESTON A DI BEST ONE IF U NEVA GUESS PRESTON DEN U GUESSWRONG!!!! It is with great pleasure that I congratulate you on your matriculation to the University of the West Indies. I am honored to welcome you to the Aston Preston Hall, (Sandals Mona) your home away from home.

Welcome to Chancellor Hall, Home of the Lions, and the Factory of Greatness!! The Covid19 pandemic has paused some of the ways we operate, but we are prepared to move on and take on whatever challenge that may arise. I urge you to stay focus and make use of every opportunity available here at Chancellor and The UWI. We wish you well, and we are confident that you will radiate in all that you embark on. Long Live the Lions!

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of the West Indies! Special greetings from the Hall of Halls, who proudly holds this title, and has done so since 2015. We are the Elsa Leo-Rhynie “Towers” Hall, led by our motto, “Leading the pack on the hunt for excellence.” This is epitomized through our dominance in sports, the arts, leadership, and academics at the pinnacle. Our Hall colours, red, black, and silver, are representative of our passion, power and intelligence, as these values are what we embrace as Wolves.

Welcoming Panthers near and far to George Alleyne Hall and to the University of West Indies Mona Campus! As Panthers we are considered trail blazers because of the legacy of our ‘Grand Paw’ and how it has inspired us to make a mark on the campus. As you now embark and navigate this University journey, strengthen your time management skills, seize every opportunity and most importantly let your light shine!

“KNOW THYSELF! KNOW THYSELF! KNOW THYSELF!” Greetings Pelicans and welcome to the UWI Mona family from the oldest existing and greatest hall of residence on theUWI Mona Campus, Irvine Hall. Here at Irvine Hall, we strive for excellence in all we do, providing support for our fellow Irvinites and Pelicans across the campus. On Irvine, the vine and vibes are synonymous as we brand ourselves as the “Cultural Mecca” of the UWI Mona Campus.

Greetings new Pelicans! It is our utmost esteemed pleasure to welcome you to the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. You have made this astute decision to be a part of this noble institution. One which is the core for academia, sports, leadership, and never-ending opportunities. Yes, you have now matriculated into this dynamic institution, consider this a pivotal stage in your life. As you now walk the road that many great leaders, and great men and women who have made invaluable contributions to the national, regional, and global community have.

Black and White is always right! Freshers All! The Mary Seacole Hall built in 1957, hosts over 250 strong women and is named after one of Jamaica’s most fearless nursing pioneers, Mary Jane Grant Seacole. This prestigious hall was built in honour of meeting the increased need for housing accommodation for the expanding female student population at the University of West Indies, Mona. Being the only sorority on campus and encompassing women from the Caribbean and abroad, Mary Seacole Hall aims to not only nurture women but help them to be creative outlets, while strengthening their holistic development.

Welcome to our freshers and welcome back to our returning students! To our Rexans, a very special welcome! The year ahead will come with its challenges and its rewards, keep in mind that you can conquer them all. Attending the number 1 ranked university on the island, in a pandemic, is no small feat. You have been through a lot to get to this point, you can and you will accomplish all you have set out to; remember to stay consistent. We cannot promise you that the year ahead will be easy, but what we can promise is that it will all be worth it in the end.

For more than half a century, 68 years in fact the empire known as Taylor Hall has been an incubator of success- a legend for the times. Here the principles of camaraderie, chivalry, fraternity and unyielding determination have been passed on from generation to generation- a legacy beyond half a century and a legacy that will never fade. We work assiduously to master all we pursue and make the sacrifices to be the crème de la crème we are today. Therefore, I implore you not to be afraid to tap into your truest potential as well as have an open mind to the possibilities that lie ahead.

On behalf of the MONA ASSOCIATION OF POSTGRADUATE STUDENTS (MAPS). I welcome you to the ‘New Challenge’, A fresh start in the advancement of your education here at the UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES. I must seek to commend and not disregard that you, the selected few, have been courageous enough to not settle for a Bachelor’s Degree, but to strive to achieve Education at a higher level, a level higher than average. UWI. We look forward to a year of partnership, as we represent you to the best of our abilities and hope that you will find this experience comparable to none other.

On behalf of the entire Mona Engineering Society executive, BIG UP UNU SELF, CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME to the faculty of World Changers, the Faculty continuously on the relentless pursuit of excellence, The great Faculty of Engineering. There is nothing in the world that can stop you from achieving your goals once you really WANT IT, but this does not mean you should do this alone. Here at the Faculty of Engineering, you will be surrounded by the most ambitious, caring and success-hungry individuals out there, so find your niche and build your foundation, integrate and join clubs as this will contribute to the true holistic university experience. I leave with you these words to keep in mind: BALANCE, RESILIENCE, ACTIVE, INTUITION, NOTHING.

Greetings Freshers! My name is Fabian Dreckett your Humanities and Education Representative for the 2021/2022 academic year. I want to use this opportunity wisely to welcome you to the University of the west Indies. It will be a bumpy ride but at the end of the day it will be worth it. Hard work and persistence will be two of the most important attributes to display while here. My role as humanities rep is to represent my constituents in various ways to ensure that they are always good. Advocacy is at the top of the list for this academic year. There will be several events that will only benefit the students. I am looking forward to an awesome year with you all. All the best in your endeavours !

CONGRATULATIONS PELICANS!! It is with great pride that I congratulate you all for matriculating to the University of the West Indies and into the Faculty of Sport family. As you are adopted into a new family and environment, I want to wish you all the best in your degree. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, and as you my fellow pelican have made that first step. You’ve closed one chapter of your life and open a new, I want you to grasp all the opportunities that are there for you to promote growth and development. #IRepSport

As the Faculty of Social Sciences Guild Representative, I, with great dignity, deem it a privilege to be a part of this institution and in particular, to be a tigress serving the streak of the Faculty of Social Sciences. To new pelicans, we are studying amongst the greatest minds in the world and as such, I anticipate great things from you during your tenure here. To our returning pelicans, I admire and applaud your drive to finish. I will continue to roar for you on the sidelines while you race to success. The race has not been easy in the previous year, but just as how the tigers of SoSci never yield, the pelicans of UWI will always soar. To my Social Sciences Family, I see valour, bravery, strength and wisdom, true characteristics of tigers. I am looking forward to each Tiger’s hunt for Greatness and the Massive Streak of Excellence.

Congratulations new students and welcome to the Faculty of medical sciences! As you embark of this new journey I hope you will make the most of the experiences that come your way and embrace opportunities that present it self to foster change and self growth. You are brilliant and extraordinary! We as your guild committee are here to serve you and give you an excellent year. We will advocate on your behalf and create activities and events to help you through the year while keeping your academic, entertainment, mental and spiritual components of life in check! Much love and respect

What does it mean to be great you ask? Greatness isn’t used to describe the ordinary... it describes those who are bold enough to challenge what they’re taught, researching, and experimenting to derive new principles. The Faculty of Science & Technology is the breeding ground of the Greats, for it encourages creativity, opportunity, and the ability o draw out courage through various courses and involvements other than academics. As your FST Guild Committee, we are here to offer guidance and support, in ensuring that the time spent is meaningful and one to remember. Whether online or face-to-face, SciTech will be your safe space. #OneStepBeyondGreatness #FacultyOfGreatness

On behalf of the IGDS executive committee, congratulations on matriculating to the UWI Mona and to the IGDS family as well. Take a moment to breathe and BIG UP YUH SELF you’ve worked hard on getting this far and your work has paid off. You’ve been admitted to one best Universities in the Caribbean and Latin America. Now that, that moment is over, welcome to three of the most transformative years of your life. These next few years will take some serious determination and grit, there will be some challenges. However, as you navigate through this space during your time here remember three things: 1. Start assignments early 2. Reach out and connect with your lecturer and try to network 3. Ask for help

‘Bloom wildly and unapologetically’ is a personal mantra and a guiding phrase as to how I try to live my life. It’s how I would encourage my fellow students to live their lives also. When you come to university, you have dreams, hopes and many goals you want to accomplish- and I say be a badass and pursue them without apology. we’re all figuring out life and growing each day. Just remember that you have an obligation to yourself to be the best you. You can emulate others but do not imitate- we don’t need a knock off; we need bold, unapologetic, and perfectly flawed individuals who chase their dreams, take care of themselves and invest in their abilities, all while radiating an impact and blooming wildly, into their own person who they can be proud of.

Commuters!!! Commuters!!! You are on the move to excellence!!! It is my pleasure to welcome all commuting students to the University of the West Indies Mona campus and to the life of Commuters. You’re about to start on a journey that will expose you to a variety of holistic development opportunities. I advise that you utilize these opportunities, get active, and broaden your horizons. However, you will encounter obstacles, face challenges and fail along the way. As you look forward to completing your studies, keep this in mind that you get better when you do good and not just hustling to serve oneself, but assisting others brings fulfilment. There will always be a chance to help someone else succeed while on the road to success. Take advantage of the opportunity to make a difference in other people’s lives.

In a time of instability and uncertainties, God remains true to His people. It is with deep pleasure that the team at the U.T.C.W.I. welcomes you on a journey to success. What better way to discern the mind of God, and understand His will than to continue a spiritual journey through formal training and formation with us? Congratulations on the bold step in accepting THE CALL on your life in this formal way. As you commit to the journey, it is quite profound that I repeat the line of our popular community phrase ‘the journey is long.’ In essence, though you are being trained for a defined period, discoveries never end . The peace of the Lord be with you; Shalom.
