Approved by the Social Council on 17 May 2017 (BOUA 18/05/17), this regulation is applicable to the degrees offered by the University of Alicante. sga.ua.es/en/academic-regulations/eees/permanencia/permanence-and-continuation-studies-grade.html

Types of regular registration and number of registration credits

There are three kinds of regular registration: a) Full-time registration: at least 48 credits per academic year. Registrations under 48 credits will only be deemed as full-time whenever the student is registering for the last credits left to complete their degree. b) Part-time registration: between 24 and 47 credits per academic year. Students can apply for part-time registration due to personal or academic performance circumstances. c) Special fee for students with functional diversity: aimed at students who need to register for a lower number of credits each year in order to succeed in their studies. Granting of this fee will be subject to the presentation of a report by the Student Support Centre. This fee allows for registration of 6-23 credits.

Permanence regime and performance requirements in registering for specific courses and/or continuing studies

New students (both part-time and full-time) must pass at least 30 credits in two academic years. Students with functional diversity who apply for a special student fee must pass at least 12 credits in two academic years. If students fail to pass the minimum amount of credits within the above-mentioned period, they can file an application for continuation of studies. Should said application be unsuccessful or should students fail to file it within the deadline, they will not be allowed to register for the same degree in the two following academic years. Students will not be allowed to register for new subjects if they do not register for all core subjects that they did not pass in the previous academic years. Registration for the subject “Final Year Undergraduate Project” will only be possible once students have passed at least 168 credits (for 240-credit undergraduate degrees), or 210 credits (for 300-credit undergraduate degrees).

The number of times students can register in a specific subject

Students have a right to register for each subject three times. A fourth registration opportunity will be automatically granted as long as their academic performance, which is calculated on the basis of a “credits passed (except recognised credits)/credits registered” ratio, is over 50%. Only students who have 60 or less ECTS left to finish their degree will be entitled to request a fifth and last examination opportunity from the University of Alicante President. Should students fail this last examination opportunity, they must abandon their studies at the University of Alicante. They will only be re-admitted to the same undergraduate degree in the event that they got said subject(s)’ credits recognised.

Curriculum adjustment

In order to promote access, continuation of studies and taking the most of the academic year, university students can apply for a number of academic actions and techniques. These actions are aimed to support students in the classroom and in exams by providing them with the required adaptations. Curriculum adaptation can organise in two main groups:

- The first group would include students with a degree of physical, hearing or mental disability equal or higher than 33% or those with NEAE (Specific Educational Needs). - The second group would include other students such as elite athletes or those representing the UA, victims of gender violence, students who are pregnant or in the process of adopting or fostering children, in charge of children under 3 year old or any other family dependant with a working schedule non compatible with lectures or students in a mobility programmes and some other cases.

It is usually requested during the first two weeks of the beginning of the academic year or semester, although the term is open exceptionally for requests derived from unforeseen circumstances have occurred.
