myGTC The Five: 1. Gmail: Just a reminder that Gmail access will end tomorrow, June 29, 2022, at midnight. We have endeavored to ensure that everyone has been migrated; however, if there are concerns, please open a ticket at https://support.gtcountymi.gov 2. GTCU: During the transition to M365, we have determined that staff have been challenged to get access to GTCU. GTCU is housed in SharePoint, and we continue monitoring and ensuring everyone has an account. We have missed staff members and have worked to include them in the tenant. There are currently three lessons related to myGTC (Workday). If you have staff unable to access GTCU, please open a ticket. You can include multiple staff members on one ticket. The lessons related to myGTC are as follows: Employee Introduction: This lesson introduces the employees to Workday Enrollment stands at 42, with 32 completing the lesson Learning Portal: The lesson walks employees through the different screens in the portal Enrollment stands at 31 with 20 completions Pay Module: This lesson demonstrates how to view pay slips, change banking elections, and change tax deductions. Enrollment stands at 16 with 15 completions

*myGTC is not up and running yet, it will be officially launched in the fall.

3. Security Alerts: Information technology did not have visibility to cyber alerts inside the organization. There have been many questions about why the move to M365. We are audited annually by Homeland Security. Each agency is rated on a scale of 1 to 5, with five being the most secure. For the past two years, Grand Traverse County’s rating has been a high 1, which means a lot of improvement opportunities. That being said, you may receive an email or phone call from IT regarding alerts we can receive now. Often, the warnings are false positives, which we can efficiently resolve; however, to err on the side of caution, we will follow up with department leaders. 4. Email Security: As our transformation to Outlook continues, the volume of email routed through Gmail is reduced. IT has monitored the threats to our Gmail account for the past two years. Over this week, 2,715 out of 4,553 emails routed via Gmail were threats or 59.63%. The same period for Outlook saw one threat out of 8,397. 5. Lastly: The challenges of learning a new application are not lost for me. The move to Workday and M365 was not made in a vacuum because I like them better. When I was hired two and half years ago, I was asked to evaluate and recommend opportunities to enhance cyber security and aging technology. That has brought us to our current state. Our renewal for Gmail is expiring, and contrary to information I am hearing, M365 is not less expensive than Gmail. I have attempted to provide as many resources for a successful launch; however, with any “forklift” upgrade, the challenges are real and daunting.

myGTC LOGO A new logo is being worked on for myGTC/ Workday. Below is a sneak peak of the new logo. This logo will be an indicator of the Grand Traverse County myGTC portal.

WELLNESS FEEL, THINK, LIVE, BE... WELL!

Live Long & Prosper

Boardman Lake Loop Trail - OPEN

To prosper means to flourish physically and to grow strong and healthy. This definition might be quite different from what comes to mind when we think about aging. Aging is a natural phenomenon that begins the moment we are born. Although we celebrate each new year, we begin to yearn to be another age almost immediately after blowing out the candles. Unease about aging and the process of aging can erode self-esteem and create insecurity. Aging successfully is all about attitude! Take pride in the accomplishments of the past and consider them a foundation for the future. Scientific evidence suggests that a positive attitude can lengthen life! A Yale University study found that those with a positive perception of aging lived 7.5 years longer than people with negative perceptions of getting older. Developing a positive attitude is a matter of choice. When your internal dialog is negative, your body releases stress hormones. Begin by rewording the thoughts in your internal dialog: I will think of myself as successful! I will remind myself of past successes. I will keep trying. I will not dwell on failures. I will surround myself with positive people and ideas! The one absolute in life is that we all age, but the choice for how we handle this reality is one that we make from moment to moment. We may not be able to control all the circumstances of our life, but we can control many factors that contribute to our health and longevity!

Community members and visitors can now enjoy a 4+ mile loop around the perimeter of the Boardman Lake, a project more than 30 years in the making! Completing the Boardman Lake Loop Trail has been a top community priority on the minds of many community members and public figures as it serves as a critical corridor for non-motorized transportation and recreation.
