Faculty, Staff, Students and Visitors GTCC Chief of Police Traffic / Parking Policy and Procedures

The GTCC Traffic / Parking Policy and Procedures have been approved by the GTCC Board of Trustees. These traffic / parking policies and procedures are subject to change with proper notification to all personnel.

All motor vehicle concerns should be communicated to the Chief of GTCC Police who is responsible for all operational and enforcement aspects of the GTCC Traffic / Parking Policies and Procedures.

You should familiarize yourself thoroughly with these traffic / parking policies and procedures as well as the pertinent parking data shown on the general parking map and to abide by these policies and restrictions.

EMERGENCY CALL 911 IMPORTANT NOTICE All Federal and State regulations apply, including North Carolina Motor Vehicle Laws, and are enforced by GTCC Police Officers at All Campus Locations.

Handicap Parking is strictly limited to persons who have been issued a handicapped placard by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles. The placard must be displayed when the vehicle is parked in a handicap space. *Unauthorized vehicles are subject to tow.

REQUIRED PERMITS FOR PARKING AT GTCC GTCC enforces traffic regulations for safety and the benefit of its employees, students and visitors in accordance with state law. Failure to adhere to these regulations will result in prescribed penalties.

Application

Employees, students and visitors to GTCC. Employee Permit – issued to all GTCC employees from the Human Resources Department.

Student Permit – issued to all students at all GTCC campus locations. Permits are available at GTCC Police Departments on all campuses and at the cashier's window on the Jamestown Campus.

Visitor Permit – Visitor permits are issued from the GTCC Police Department for special circumstances and from the Cosmetology and Dental offices for its patrons coming to the campus for services.

Handicap Parking – State issued handicap license plates or placards are honored. Officers frequently check these spaces to ensure compliance with State Laws.

Special Permit Reserved Parking – issued by GTCC Police for those persons with temporary parking needs supported by a written request from a doctor. These spaces are limited and issued on a case by case basis as available.

PAYMENT OF TRAFFIC / PARKING FINES All payments of parking or traffic fines may be taken or mailed to: GTCC Cashier P.O. Box 309 - R Jamestown, N.C. 27282 YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF THE CITATION(S) WITH PAYMENT. This is to ensure proper clearance is given to your specific citation(s).

IMPORTANT NOTE: Handicap Parking is strictly enforced. Handicap parking is limited to persons who have been issued a handicap placard by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles. The placard must be displayed when the vehicle is parked in a handicap space.

The placard cannot be used by anyone else unless the person the placard is assigned to is on campus and being chauffeured by the operator of the vehicle the placard is displayed in. Misuse of a handicap placard subjects the violator to a state citation with a fine of more than $250 plus court costs plus confiscation of the placard. Applications for a State of North Carolina issued handicap placard are available online at the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles website. GTCC Police Officers will on a regular basis check to see that individuals parking in handicap spaces are authorized to be there.

Lost and Found

All personal items found on any GTCC campus should be turned in to the GTCC Police Department. Items will be held for ninety days.

Parking Permits

Parking permits are not transferable from one vehicle to another. If a parking permit is destroyed, damaged, or lost, a new permit is required. This new permit will be issued free of charge upon submission of proof of previous payment. Student parking permits are issued on an annual basis and by semester. Students must present proof of enrollment in order to obtain the required permit. A current parking permit is honored on all GTCC campuses.

Officers with the GTCC Police Department are sworn law enforcement officers with the power of arrest and the authority to enforce all state and federal laws and college regulations.
