As we move into this new phase in our Tribe, I am excited to see our Tribe moving forward. We have been paralyzed by division that could not be bridged due a lack of consensus on management of our Economic Development Corporation. Although all 7 of the Council were able to see the annual audit information, the monthly revenue reports, and the staggering losses of businesses, we could not the majority vote to direct the management staff to come up with a plan to turn the failing businesses around. As your Chairman, I cannot support the continual financial losses at the expense of the GTB membership’s percap, services, and our investment accounts. We must have financial accountability for our Tribal membership and I look forward to reporting exactly this to you in future newsletter articles.

I have to address lack of 2% allocations for the Elder’s Advisory. Some of the Council incumbents falsely told the Elders that the GTB had an audit finding on a Chestonia township Elder’s Advisory application and that is why they refused to fund the Elder’s Advisory. When Council looked into this matter, the Legal department clarified that ALL 501C3 applications get an audit note from the state, and they do NOT specify the Elder’s Advisory, like what we were being told—there is no reason why we should not have funded the Elder’s Advisory with 2% funds. This hypocrisy that some of the Council continue to perpetuate only goes to show that they are making excuses for their poor decision and the singling out of the Elder’s Advisory and it appears discriminatory. If we question the Elder’s Advisory, we should have questioned EVERY 501C3 that we funded.

I believe in a democratic process of open communication and engagement with our membership. I want to build trust with members and keep you all informed as to what is going on with the Government and Economic Development of our Tribe. We work for you and with you and will continue to do so!

As I have reported in the past, I believe that providing good training and information will help with success in any area. I would like to see our Tribal committees fully trained on the committee they are appointed/elected to before making decisions.

I want cost-benefit analysis done on all projects to ensure that whatever venture we go into, will be the best use of our investment funds and will show success. I would like all approved economic development plans posted for a 30-day comment period for GTB membership input. I believe our Tribe has the full potential to be leaders and competitors in business but we need to make decisions that are in tune with the consumer and promote being on target with cutting edge trends and technology.

What are our priorities and goals for GTB Government and EDC and more importantly how do we strategize to move forward—As I have written in previous articles, I have many thoughts and ideas that are goals and objectives but we need experts to assist us in determining the best course of action for GTB. I think we have outgrown the paternalistic system of politics and we must engage our Tribal members on what services and programs are needed in government. For business diversification, I repeatedly say that we need Cost Benefit Analysis for all of our business endeavors. If a bank or financial institution will not invest into our economic projects, why would we invest our finances into them?

This sounds like a good idea but is it the best use of our finances, especially when part of the financing is supposed to come from the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. My understanding is that the Resort is an LLC, a stand-alone business, and from what I’ve seen should maintain its own revenues to develop a profit. I stand behind my statement, if businesses are not able to stand-alone then we should not keep investing in them and we should not invest into any business plan that cannot stand-alone—this is all stated in the Revenue Allocation Ordinance (RAO).

We need to hear from our Tribal Members to develop and assess our Tribal vision and mission. We must have open access to not only GTB governmental budget reports but also our EDC reports. Status quo is no longer an option for our Tribe for operations of government and business.

I just heard from an Elder—Membership is FIRST, then the Constitution, then the Council. I am not sure when it changed but I agree with this Elder, to move forward we need to listen to our MEMBERS. Megwetch Tribal members, we need your input and we look forward to working together for our Tribe!

The Poppy Story From the battlefields of World War I, weary soldiers brought home the memory of a barren landscape transformed by wild poppies, red as the blood that had soaked the soil. By that miracle of nature, the spirit of their lost comrades lived on.

The poppy became a symbol of the sacrifice of lives in war and represented the hope that none had died in vain. The American Legion Auxiliary poppy has continued to bloom for the casualties of four wars, its petals of paper bound together for veterans by veterans, reminding America each year that the men and women who have served and died for their country deserve to be remembered. The poppy, as a memorial flower to the war dead, can be traced to a single individual, Moina Michael. She was so moved by Lt. Col. McCrae’s poem, “In Flanders Fields,” that she wrote a response: . . . the blood of heroes never dies But lends a luster to the red Of the flower that blooms above the dead In Flanders’ Fields.

On impulse, she bought a bouquet of poppies – all that New York City’s Wanamaker’s Department Store had – and handed them to businessmen meeting at the New York YMCA where she worked. She asked them to wear the poppy as a tribute to the fallen. That was November 1918. World War I was over, but America’s sons would rest forever “in Flanders’ Fields.”

Later she would spearhead a campaign that would result in the adoption of the poppy as the national symbol of sacrifice.

In Flanders Fields “In Flanders Fields” is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician and Lt. Col. John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Alexis Helmer, who died during the Second Battle of Ypres.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

(Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council) Percy Bird Jr., Executive Director of the Michigan Water Protectors Legal Task Force, Holly Bird, Director of the Natural Resources Department, Desmond Berry, and Water Quality Specialist, Jonathan Aylward.

Being nominated is a huge honor, so we are very proud to have been represented so strongly at these awards.

Jonathan Aylward was awarded Environmentalist of the Year in Agriculture for his continued efforts in planting fruit and nut bearing tree’s! Congratulations Jonathan!

On Friday, April 13th, the Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council (NMEAC for short) held an awards ceremony at the Dennos Museum for members of the local and surrounding communities who work diligently to keep our environment clean and safe. Holly Bird was the keynote speaker and delivered a powerful message about keeping our land and waters clean.

Holly spoke eloquently and with great conviction, her messages of environmental awareness and safety were met with great applause.

There were also members of GTB who had been nominated for different awards. Among those nominated were, Councilman Mark Wilson, Councilman

Effective January 22, 2018, please be advised that Michigan travelers may need to provide additional acceptable government identification when going through security before boarding a plane. Be pro-active and be ready.

PER CAPITA DIRECT DEPOSIT • If you have not already signed up for direct deposit of your per capita checks, Friday, May 4th is the deadline to sign up for a direct deposit of your JUNE 2018 per capita and all future per capita checks. The form must be received in our office by May 4th.

• This deadline (May 4th) also applies to those that are currently signed up for direct deposit and wish to change the bank information.

• Please Note: If you do not have a valid address on file with the membership office, your per capita direct deposit will be suspended until a valid address is received in the Membership Office.

• If you need to change the information for your direct deposit, please submit a new Direct Deposit Agreement form. To request one, you may contact Christina Loucks at (231)534-7131. This form is also available on www.gtbindians.org.

• Once completed, the Direct Deposit Agreement form must be mailed in or dropped off at the Government Accounting building.

FAXES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

• If you wish to cancel your direct deposit, you need to submit this request in writing to the Per Capita Office or fill out the Direct Deposit Cancellation form. If not using the form, please write that you wish to cancel your per capita direct deposit, sign, date, and include tribal id number and/or social security number. SORNA – Required Registration Information SORNA refers to the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, which is Title 1 of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006. SORNA provides a minimum set of standards for sex offender registration.

Grand Traverse Band Government Employees attended their Annual Staff Meeting and training on Friday, April 13th. After morning registration, employees were given updates from the automotive section then they were given Active Shooter Training by Tribal Police. Delores Wonegeshik demonstrated stretching techniques employees can do in the office.

Employees then left the Govenors Hall to attend classes from Health services, behavioral health services, Human Resources, and the Cultural Departments Language Instructors.

After an Italian Lunch, employees were honored for their service recognition. The appropriate staff were called upon to receive an honorary certificate and to be congratulated by Gov. Department Managers on their years of service. Over 80 employees received recognition this year. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and Dedication to the Tribe.

The longest recognition award given was to dedicated 35 Year Employee Faith M Anderson. Thank You Faith!

Native Apsáalooke rapper and entertainer Christian Parrish aka“Supaman”, performed as the guest speaker. He used his many talents to engage and entertain the attending staff. He gave some life lessons through his whimsical narrative on parenting, pursuing success, respect and Native American culture. Volunteer staff were called upon to participate in his song/beat creation and dance off demonstrations.

“Supaman” was also available after the event to take pictures with GTB Staff. After the staff event “Supaman” performed for the GTB youth at a separate event. We thank ‘Supaman’ Christian Parrish for providing such talent at our event. The overall experience was appreciated by staff and GTB Gov. employees are looking forward to next years Staff Meeting.

Notice of Tribal Appellate Court Judge Vacancy The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (Tribe(al)) serves notice to the Tribal Membership and licensed attorneys about a judicial vacancy on the Tribal Appellate Court.

The judicial vacancy on the Tribal Appellate Court may be filled by a Tribal Member or a licensed attorney for the balance of the unexpired six (6) term, due to end on September 30, 2020.

The Tribal Constitution at Article V establishes the Tribal Judiciary and Section 1 states: “The judicial power of the Grand Traverse Band shall be vested in a tribal court system. The tribal court system shall be composed of a court of general jurisdiction, an appellate court, and such lower courts as the Tribal Appellate Court may establish.”

Article V, Section (3)(b) addresses the composition of the Tribal Appellate Court and states: “The Tribal Appellate Court shall consist of three (3) judges. At least one (1) of the three (3) judges shall be an attorney licensed to practice before the courts of a state in the United States.”

Article V, Section (4)(b) sets all Appellate Court appointments at a term of six (6) years. Article V, Section 9 sets forth the process for filling a vacancy and states: “Any vacancy in the Tribal Judiciary shall be filled by the Tribal Council in the same manner as the original appointment for the balance of the expired term.”

Article V, Section (4)(b) describes the method of appointment and states: “each judge of the Tribal Appellate Court shall be appointed by an affirmative vote of five (5) of the seven (7) members of the Tribal Council for a term of six (6) years.”

Article V, Section 5 establishes the eligibility and qualifications for judges and provides: Any person shall be eligible to serve as a tribal court judge only if he/she: (a) Is a member of the Grand Traverse Band who has attained the age of eighteen (18) and/or is an attorney licensed to practice before the courts of a state in the United States; (b) Is not presently a Tribal Council member or running to become a Tribal Council member; and (c) Has not been convicted, within ten (10) years of such appointment, of any felony by a court of competent jurisdiction.”

Interested and eligible individuals are required to submit a cover letter and resume to Human Resources stating their desire to be appointed to the Appellate Court; if licensed, proof of licensure and good standing are also required. The deadline for submission is 5:00 P.M. on April 12, 2018. The Tribal Council may conduct or forgo interviews with the selected candidate appointed at a duly convened Tribal Council session.

SORNA Frequently Asked Questions 1. Are the provisions of SORNA retroactive?

SORNA applies to all sex offenders, including those convicted of their registration offenses prior to the enactment of SORNA or prior to particular jurisdictions’ incorporation of the SORNA requirements into their programs. Jurisdictions are specifically required to register such sex offenders if they remain in the system as prisoners, supervisees, or registrants, or if they alter reenter the system because of conviction for some other crime, whether the new crime is a sex offense.

2. How are juveniles treated under SORNA? Section 34 U.S.C. §20911 provides that delinquency adjudications count as convictions “only if the offender is 14 years of age or older at the time of the offense and the offenses are adjudicated was comparable to or more severe than aggravated sexual abuse or was an attempt or conspiracy to commit such an offense.” (section 2241 of title 18, United States Code).

Notice to Grand Traverse Band Tribal Members Appointment of Appellate Judges This notice serves to inform the membership of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of a Tribal Appellate Court vacancy.

Article V Section 9 of the GTB Tribal Constitution provides: “Vacancies in the Tribal Judiciary. Any vacancy in the Tribal Judiciary shall be filled by the Tribal Council in the same manner as the original appointment for the balance of the unexpired term.”

The Appellate term appointment will be for the balance of the unexpired term to October 14, 2020.

These items are to be submitted to the General Counsel, John Petoskey, as soon as possible. Tribal Council appointments will take place at the Regular Session of the Tribal Council on April 18, 2018.

Hence, SORNA does not require registration for juveniles adjudicated delinquent for all sex offense for which an adult sex offender would be required to register.

3. How are foreign convictions and tribal convictions treated under SORNA? Foreign convictions require sex offenders to register under SORNA unless the foreign conviction “was not obtained with sufficient safeguards for fundamental fairness and due process for the accused.” The Final Guidelines establish rules for determining if legal process in foreign countries meet the required standards under SORNA. 4. Do Jurisdictions have to make statutory charges to substantially implement SORNA? While SORNA sets minimum standards for jurisdictions and notification programs, it does not require that these standards be implemented by statute. Hence, in assessing compliance with SORNA, the totality of a jurisdiction’s rules governing the operation of it registration and notification program will be considered, including administrative policies and procedures as well as statutes.

Are you very self-conscious in everyday social situations?

Do you avoid meeting new people?

If you have been feeling this way for at least six months and these feelings make it hard for you to do everyday tasks—such as talking to people at work or school—you may have a social anxiety disorder.

Social anxiety disorder (also called social phobia) is a mental health condition. It is an intense, persistent fear of being watched and judged by others. This fear can affect work, school, and your other day-today activities. It can even make it hard to make and keep friends. But social anxiety disorder doesn’t have to stop you from reaching your potential.

Treatment can help you overcome your symptoms.

Symptoms of Social Anxiety: When having to perform in front of or be around others, people with social anxiety disorder tend to: •

Blush, sweat, tremble, feel a rapid heart rate, or feel their “mind going blank”

•

Feel nauseous or sick to their stomach

•

Show a rigid body posture, make little eye contact, or speak with an overly soft voice

•

Find it scary and difficult to be with other people, especially those they don’t already know, and have a hard time talking to them even though they wish they could

•

Be very self-conscious in front of other people and feel embarrassed and awkward

•

Be very afraid that other people will judge them

•

Stay away from places where there are other people

What is Bipolar?

Bipolar disorder: Bipolar disorder is an illness that makes a person’s mood change between mania (highs) and depression (lows) that can last for hours, days, weeks, or months. Having bipolar disorder DOES NOT mean that the person is flawed as it can be treated. If you are someone who suffers from bipolar disorder, you are not alone. More than 5.7 million adults are affected by this illness. It is important to consult a psychiatrist or a general practitioner for assistance to begin your journey to wellness.

Symptoms of mania: • Increased physical and mental activity and energy • Heighted mood, exaggerated optimism and self-confidence • Decreased need for sleep without experiencing fatigue • Racing speech, thoughts, and flight of ideas • Increased sexual drive • Reckless Behavior Symptoms of depression: • Prolonged sadness or unexplained crying spells, profound hopelessness • Significant changes in appetite and sleep patterns • Irritability, anger, worry, agitation, and anxiety • Pessimism, loss of energy, persistent lethargy • Feelings of guilt and worthlessness • Inability to concentrate, indecisiveness • Recurring thoughts of death and suicide

If you feel you have social anxiety disorder, talk to your doctor or health care professional about your symptoms. Your doctor should do an exam and ask you about your health history to make sure that an unrelated physical problem is not causing your symptoms. Your doctor may refer you to a mental health specialist, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, or counselor. The first step to effective treatment is to have a diagnosis made, usually by a mental health specialist.

There are three different types of bipolar disorder: 1.) Bipolar I Disorder is characterized by one or more manic (high) episodes that last at least a week or require hospitalization.

Episodes of depression and hypomania may also occur. Some mood episodes may have mixed features (symptoms of both depression and mania/hypomania).

2.) Bipolar II Disorder is characterized by one or more depressive episodes accompanied by at least one hypomanic episode.

Hypomanic episodes have symptoms similar to manic episodes but are less extreme and don’t last as long.

3.) Cyclothymic Disorder is characterized by chronic mood fluctuations that do not reach the level of full manic or depressive episode.

During this time, the Michigan Tobacco Quitline will offer a free, two-week supply of nicotine gum, patches or lozenges for all new enrollees who want to quit smoking or chewing tobacco. Tobacco users who would like to quit may call the Quitline phone number at 800-QUITNOW (800-784-8669). Enrollment is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Quitline serves all ages, however, callers seeking NRT must be over 18 and meet basic health requirements. Enrollees will receive a coach who will assist them in setting a quit date, choosing a nicotine replacement product that is right for them and making

Caregiver Program WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR FAMILY CARE GIVER SUPPORT SERVICES? • Informal, unpaid family Caregivers of older adults. An older adult is the age used on your Title VI Part A application that was determined by the tribe to be an elder. .

• Grandparents and relative caregivers, age 55 and older, who are the primary caregivers of a child not more than 18 years old because the biological or adaptive parents are unable or unwilling to serve as the primary caregiver of the child. They must be related to the child by blood, marriage, or adoption and live with the child.

The OAA requires that the Family Caregiver Support Program give priority to: • Caregivers who are older individuals with the greatest social need.

• Older individuals with the greatest economic need, particularly low income individuals.

• Older individuals providing care to individuals with severe disabilities, including children with severe disabilities.

Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians Elders Program – Elders Emergency Services Aanii GTB Tribal Elders: Tribal Council has approved another fiscal year of funding for the “Elders Emergency Service Component” for FY 18. This program is for all elders living within the six-county service area and there are no income requirement.

The guidelines for this service is categorized on your age ranging from $300 to $500.

The Elders Emergency Service program is to assist elder’s that may have an emergency, but is not limited to any situation.

Examples: Food, Heating, cooling, snow removal @ $25/per trip and lawn care up to $25 per cut, appliance purchase, clothing, reimbursement or another emergency.

This program can be used in conjunction with LIHEAP and/or HUMAN SERVICES. Each Elder is required to complete an application. In order for the application to be processed in a timely manner, it is important that the directions for this program be followed and completed properly.

March 2018 Charlevoix Youth spent part of the month learning about pictographs and how our ancestors used drawings to tell stories, share thoughts, and warn others of danger. We also used some of our time flying kites and playing in the sun. On April 20th, Charlevoix area had a community potluck and bingo night.

Your fire department is still looking for paid on call firefighters. We will get you the training. You will learn a honorable profession and be able to give back to your community. We have a new Fire Inspector in our midths. Sunil (Sunny) Nair has completed his Inspectors training and will soon be out inspecting our facilities. Congratulation to him it is a very hard class. If you see him out and about please congratulate him.

Thank you During the month the department had Active Shooter Training put on by Tribal Police. It was good training and I think this department is better prepared if this were to occur here.

The Department also participated in Pipeline Emergency Training. This provided us with good information on what to do and who to call in the event a pipeline rupture occurs. We have one pipeline here, and that is a natural gas line.

March also saw the delivery of our First CPR class. We were able to deliver a class to the Strongheart personnel.

The Fire Department also burned a large pile of Brush that had been accumulating over the years up near the Strongheart. We needed to burn it before all the snow was gone according to our burn plan with the BIA. Who knew we would get more snow. We were able to get about half of it burned but due to the weather conditions (rain) that was all that would burn. We will try to finish burning in the fall after the first snow cover happens.

Hopefully this will be a mild wildland fire season, however if the south is any indication, it could prove to be very busy.

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, in lieu of Benzie County Central Schools, Elk Rapids Public Schools, Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools, and Kingsley Area Schools, will conduct public hearings for the Title VI American Indian Education Programs annual funding proposal. This a time where families may contribute to the planning of activities for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year.

The meeting dates are as follows:  Kingsley Area Schools – May 7, 2018, 7pm at the Kingsley HS library.  Benzie County Central Schools – May 8, 2018, 6pm at the GTB Benzie Outpost.  Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools – May 8, 2018, 6pm at the GTB Benzie Outpost.  Elk Rapids Area Schools – May 9, 2018, 7pm at the Elk Rapids HS Indian Ed room.

2017 Annual Drinking Water Report Violations: = 0 The Peshawbestown water system performs bacteriological and water chemistry sampling every month or as required by the (EPA) Environmental Protection Agency.

The samples are taken to SOS Laboratories in Traverse City, MI for analyses. Reports are sent to the Peshawbestown water system for review and then sent to the EPA for monthly compliance.

I'm pleased to report that our drinking water is safe and meets all federal and state requirements.

During 2017, your tap water met all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drinking water safety standards. The Peshawbestown community water system routinely monitors for contaminants in your drinking water according to Federal and State laws. The table below shows the results of our monitoring for the period of January 1st to December 31st, 2017.

Where does my water come from?

Your water supply is from groundwater. Our community water system consists of three wells that provide water to our system. These wells are located within the reservation area and produce between 115 to 230 gallons/minute.

Why are their contaminants in my drinking water?

All sources of drinking water are subject to potential contamination by substances that are naturally occurring or man made. These substances can be microbes, inorganic or organic chemicals and radioactive substances. All drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants. The presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk. More information about contaminants and potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Environmental Protection Agency’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.

Do I need to take special precautions?

Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population. Immune-compromised persons such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, persons who have undergone organ transplants, people with HIV/AIDS or other immune system disorders, some elderly, and infants can be particularly at risk from infections. These people should seek advice about drinking water from their health care providers. EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infection by cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline (800-426-4791).

MCL’s are set at very stringent levels. To understand the possible health effects described for many regulated constituents, a person would have to drink 2 liters of water every day at the MCL level for a lifetime to have a one-in-a-million chance of having the described health effect.

Water Quality Data Table In the following table you will find terms and abbreviations you may not be familiar with. To Help you better understand these terms we have provided the following definitions. The Safe Drinking Water Act identifies a number of chemicals and microorganisms that are found in drinking water supplies. These substances can be classified in the following groups: Inorganic Contaminants: This group is composed mainly of heavy metals such as lead, copper, arsenic etc. They can enter the water supply naturally, from some mining runoff or industrial discharges.

Organic Contaminants: These contaminants are grouped into two categories Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) and Synthetic Organic Compounds (SOC’s). They include such compounds as Benzene, Styrene etc. They include herbicides and insecticides that are used in agriculture solvents in industrial and other compounds. There are 21 regulated VOC’s and 30 SOC’s that are required to be analyzed.

Radioactive Contaminants: Most of these substances occur naturally in ground water but can also come from nuclear power plants and some mining areas.

Microbial Contaminants: Include bacteria and viruses which may come from sewage treatment plants, septic systems, agricultural livestock operations, and wildlife.

Terms and abbreviations associated with water samples Parts per million (ppm) or Milligrams per liter (mg/l) - one part per million corresponds to one minute in two years or a single penny in $10,000.

Parts per billion (ppb) or Micrograms per liter - one part per billion corresponds to one minute in 2,000 years, or a single penny in $10,000,000.

Picocuries per liter (pCi/L) - Picocuries per liter is a measure of the radioactivity in water.

Millirems per year (mrem/yr) - measure of radiation absorbed by the body.

Action Level - the concentration of a contaminant, which, if exceeded, triggers treatment or other requirements which a water system must follow.

Treatment Technique (TT) - A treatment technique is a required process intended to reduce the level of a contaminant in drinking water.

Maximum Contaminant Level - (mandatory language) The “Maximum Allowed” (MCL) is the highest level of a contaminant that is allowed in drinking water. MCLs are set as close to the MCLGs as feasible using the best available treatment technology.

Maximum Contaminant Level Goal - (mandatory language) The “Goal” (MCLG) is the level of a contaminant in drinking water below which there is no known or expected risk to health. MCLGs allow for a margin of safety.

If present, elevated levels of lead can cause serious health problems, especially for pregnant women and young children. Lead in drinking water is primarily from materials and components associated with service lines and home plumbing. The Peshawbestown Community Water System is responsible for providing high quality drinking water, but cannot control the variety of materials used in plumbing components. When your water has been sitting for several hours, you can minimize the potential for lead exposure by flushing your tap for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before using water for drinking or cooking. If you are concerned about lead in your water, you may wish to have your water tested. Information on lead in drinking water, testing methods, and steps you can take to minimize exposure is available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline or at http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead.

What does this mean?

The table shows that our system has some minor contaminants in the water. The potential adverse health effects are shown in the above explanation. We are continuing to monitor the water for any changes in these parameters and will notify the community if the levels significantly increase.
