Dear Girl Scouts of Utah Members and Supporters, Girl Scouts of Utah has been the premiere organization for girls in Utah for almost a century. This is where girls are empowered to lead their own adventures and begin their journey toward a lifetime of leadership.

As you turn each page of our 2018 Annual Report, you will see some of our greatest accomplishments from the year.

Some of our highlights include hosting our inaugural Utah Day of the Girl networking and fundraising event; piloting new high adventure outdoor badges for Girl Scouts of the USA and The North Face; recognizing 16 Gold Award Girls Scouts; and celebrating Camporee, our triennial event at Trefoil Ranch, with more than 795 girls and adults, and our team of 100 incredible volunteers.

Beyond these highlights, you’ll see the impact of the Girl Scout mission. You’ll see girls excelling at STEM, learning financial literacy, and going on unbelievable travel and outdoor adventures. Girl Scouts, hands down, is the best place for girls to embrace their inner go-getters, innovators, risk-takers, and leaders.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, families, partners, and donors who support and believe in our mission. Because of you, girls in Utah have a place to prepare for a lifetime of leadership, success, and adventure.

On October 12, 2018, Girl Scouts of Utah held Utah Day of the Girl, a signature event that took the place of the previously held Stand Beside Her mentoring event. Scheduled to coincide with the International Day of the Girl, the event represented our “Utah Day of the Girl” and was intended to become Girl Scouts of Utah’s annual celebration and fundraising luncheon. A unique element of this luncheon was the at-table mentoring for high-school-age Girl Scouts and young alums. For many of these girls, this was their first opportunity to connect with leaders in their prospective career fields.

This was a cultivation event for current donors and alums, as well as an acquisition event for new donors. Utah Day of the Girl provided an inspirational and powerful message about Girl Scouts and its impact on young women in our community and throughout the world.

2018 ANNUAL HIGHLIGHTS NEW BADGES Girl Scouts rolled out 30 new badges and two new Journeys exclusively for girls ages 5-18, enhancing the time-tested, one-of-a-kind leadership experience that has prepared countless women and girls to excel in life.

The new programming was developed to help girls address some of society’s most pressing needs through handson learning in cybersecurity, environmental advocacy, mechanical engineering, robotics, computer science, and space exploration.

STEM Girl Scouts of Utah has embraced the new content mentioned above to create countless STEM events and workshops for girls and volunteers across the state.

Through Girl Scout STEM programs, girls are able to lead their own exploration of STEM, engage in cooperative learning and teamwork, solve problems, and take on leadership roles. STEM activities are integrated throughout Girl Scouts of Utah’s programs to provide interactive learning opportunities in engineering, programming, astronomy, robotics, and more.

DIGITAL COOKIE After a successful regional pilot in 2017, Girl Scouts of Utah implemented the use of Digital Cookie ® for all cookie sellers in 2018.

The Digital Cookie ® platform includes fun, easy-to-use tools that helped girls superpower their sale and go beyond the booth with online and mobile channels that made it easy for cookie fans near and far to support the success of girl entrepreneurs.

The platform allowed girls to customize the way they learn and earn, using technology in new and engaging ways, all while earning cookie business badges along the way. Girls who used the platform in addition to the traditional sale sold more cookies and reached their goals faster.

2018 ANNUAL HIGHLIGHTS HIGH ADVENTURE PILOT Girl Scouts of Utah was selected by Girl Scouts of the USA as one of two councils to participate in a test pilot for new high adventure badges with The North Face.

This high adventure initiative was created to introduce girls of all ages to new outdoor experiences. The new badges are offered at all age levels and will include skill progression allowing girls to push their limits and reach new heights. In Utah, 36 troops and 213 girls from across the state discovered new high adventure experiences while participating in the pilot, and provided feedback before the national rollout of the badges.

GIRL SCOUT WEEK Girl Scouts of Utah participated in the annual celebration of Girl Scout Week, when Girl Scouts throughout the state showed off their Girl Scout spirit and celebrated local women leaders and business owners.

Girl Scout Week is held annually during the week of March 12 and often coincides with the Girl Scout Cookie Program. This week full of activities generated local and statewide media, as well as increased social media attention and engagement.

BUILDING A BETTER UTAH On September 15, 2018, Girl Scouts and volunteers all over the state participated in Building a Better Utah, a girlled day of service projects. These girls took action to give back to their communities.

Throughout the state, Girl Scouts participated in 16 events, organized by the girls in their communities and attended by their leaders and families.

Camporee is a triennial event where troops from across the state gather as Girl Scout sisters to experience the outdoors. Camporee 2018 featured The Amazing G.I.R.L. Race, where girls learned, practiced, and applied outdoor skills, while showcasing their G.I.R.L. strength.

Gold Award Girl Scouts spend a year or more completing a Gold Award project that resonates with them individually. Each of these 16 girls created their own personalized leadership journey through selfimprovement, skill development, career exploration, and community service. This award is a culmination of all that a girl has learned in Girl Scouts, and shows communities, leaders, employers, and colleges that girls are changing the world.
