The Robinson Advantage – Training the Best in the World A diverse workforce with the business and technology skills to add value to any organization. Robinson’s Department of Computer Information Systems (CIS) prepares a diverse student body with the business and technology skills needed to develop and manage information systems in the global marketplace. All students in our undergraduate and graduate programs are required to do either an internship or a capstone project to gain real-world experience before graduation. Our curriculum combines business acumen with technical know-how. Courses include programming, database management, systems analysis, unstructured data management, innovating and implementing business processes, computer forensics, and information security and privacy.

Immersive and experiential learning opportunities are embedded in every program. Our undergraduate program emphasizes hands-on experience. Every CIS course includes experiential learning opportunities. All students must engage in immersive, practical learning through a corporate-sponsored capstone project, internship, or full-time co-op. Through each option, students apply their skills and knowledge to solve real business problems under the direction of both the sponsoring organization and the CIS Department.
Rewriting City IT Policy. As part of a cybersecurity capstone project, a team of five CIS students partnered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to rewrite the City of East Point’s (Georgia) IT security policies. The policies and training methods developed by the student team will serve as a reference model for various cities and counties within the State of Georgia. Partner Connections Keeping our stakeholders connected and engaged provide win-win opportunities for faculty, students and the business community. For the last 12 years, the CIS Department has been the academic host of the annual CIO Executive Summit, a leadership and networking conference for senior IT executives that attracts nearly 200 CIOs from around the Southeast. The CIS Department also hosts the annual CISO Executive Summit, bringing together IT security executives to share challenges as well as best practices and successes. Since 1997, Robinson’s CIS Department has hosted the headquarters of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), the leading society for information systems academics in the world, which hosts the International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) and the Americas Conference on Information Systems (AMCIS), the two premier information systems conferences in the world.

World-Class Faculty Robinson’s undergraduate faculty comprises some of the top researchers and scholars in the world. Veda C. Storey is Robinson’s Tull Professor of Computer Information Systems and Professor of Computer Science. Her research interests are in conceptual modeling, intelligent information systems, big data, and design science research. She has published in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, ACM Transactions on Data Bases, and Data and Knowledge Engineering. She is a member of the AIS College of Senior Scholars and serves on the Steering Committee of the International Conference of Conceptual Modeling which named her an ER Fellow.
